Day1 buddies trip playing the rock with buddies Matt and Mark and a very nice single Brad from New York yesterday Sat 5/18. 220pm tee time 5 hrs POP. Temps were 103 and we enjoyed a 20mph wind with gusts at times 45mph. Surprisingly played well considering dust storms swirling between holes.

Day1 buddies trip playing the rock with buddies Matt and Mark and a very nice single Brad from New York yesterday Sat 5/18. 220pm tee time 5 hrs POP. Temps were 103 and we enjoyed a 20mph wind with gusts at times 45mph. Surprisingly played well considering dust storms swirling between holes.

Cart barn guys awesome, Friendly staff in the temporary trailers. The Marshall made a rude comment about one of my buddies wanting to ride alone in his cart, no cart girl on a 103 temp day=negative. We did eat at the grill beforehand and the burgers and beer was good. They are doing a ton of construction so the visuals around the course are not as pleasing on the front nine.

The layout is solid especially the back nine. My 3rd time here. Had not played in some time. One of my favorite tracks with water canals, tons of bunkers, beautiful site lines where many tee shots look tight but open up some in the mid size fairways. Couple par 3s have beautiful all carry water features.

Fairways were the highlight of the course rated 7/10. Most areas have tightly lush hitting surfaces. Never a bad lie in the fairways. Couple brown spots on most fairways.

Tees were level and mainly lush. Rated 7/10

Was in 2 greenside bunkers that looked crusty but played wonderful. Rated 7/10

Greens were disappointing for the $109.00 twilight green fee. Many dead and some brown spots and they putted medium speed and furry. Rated 6/10

Rough was decent shape, not to long, mainly lush and green. Rated 7/10

Will return again with hopefully a tad better conditions as I love the layout and tranquility of the property [minus construction]

Played yesterday/Friday as a single joining a threesome teeing off at 1:00. By muni standards the course is in mostly good shape. Teeing grounds here are large, level and had good coverage. Fairways are mixed grasses but mostly green and cut, offering good lies with the rare exception of the patch where the dirt is revealing itself. Rollout was good. Played yesterday/Friday as a single joining a threesome teeing off at 1:00. By muni standards the course is in mostly good shape. Teeing grounds here are large, level and had good coverage. Fairways are mixed grasses but mostly green and cut, offering good lies with the rare exception of the patch where the dirt is revealing itself. Rollout was good. The rough is rarely overly thick or long and frequently plays much like the fairways with little penalty. I missed the bunkers but noticed grass/weeds frequently growing in them. Areas around the greens were good for short game and the greens are in good shape running around medium. Nice enough young guys, but our pace was about 4.5 hrs and with open holes in front of us could have easily been faster if the threesome was a little less distracted and more pace conscious.

Flat, wide, and forgiving, I had my moments and enjoyed it. They have a beer special that if you ask at check in, they'll stamp your score card. Show it with your receipt at the bar afterwards and get a Corona for a buck.

I've putted on aerated greens before that still held lines or rolled somewhat true, but the current greens at CW are nigh unplayable and just plain awful. Sure would have been nice to have been informed in advance.

I've putted on aerated greens before that still held lines or rolled somewhat true, but the current greens at CW are nigh unplayable and just plain awful. Sure would have been nice to have been informed in advance.

Aside from the green issues, the only bunker that actually had great sand in it was 'Ground Under Repair,' while all the other ones were thin, had rocks in them and weren't very pleasant to play from. I don't understand why the one good one was 'closed.'

Some good things? The course is more green than usual and the fairways are actually in pretty nice shape all around. The rough is thick and can be very penal if you find yourself in an extra thick patch or underneath some of the mowed shavings that can be find in a lot of areas. The tee boxes were mostly good but not all completely level so you had to find a good spot.

POP was not great with big lines at every single par 3 that often went three groups deep. It's somewhat maddening to get into a flow and then be constantly held up and lose all sense of rhythm and timing. There was no cart service at all during the afternoon and the snack shop is sadly in a very inconvenient spot going away from the 9th green in the opposite direction of the 10th tee box.

Luckily though, for all the course's current inadequacies, the cost is reasonable for a walking fee of around $43. The driving range is dated and kind of small, but it's functional and conveniently located near the first tee. But at the end of the day, why are they punching greens again in May when it was already done in April like everywhere else?

Played this morning 5/16, and was disappointed to see they have aerated again and sanded the greens. Not sure when they did it but seemed like a few days or a week ago. I was surprised because they had already punched and sanded in late March (?), and there was no notification about the maintenance when I booked. No idea why they felt like they had to punch again but oh well. Overall I guess it was fine but putts were extremely inconsistent in terms of line. Other parts of the course were fine. The rough is long again which is a penalty but still annoying because I lost a ball that really should not have been lost, just buried under grass and impossible to find. I would wait a few weeks to play Chester.
