played 9/7. they had "needle" aerated (~1/8" holes) on tuesday, so greens were not in great shape relative to usual at wente. rolled pretty fast (1 green was 10 on the stimp at 7am, saw the greenskeeper measure it) but bumpy and sandy. I'd give it another a week or two to heal up completely.

The young staff is attentive and Disneyland friendly. The range balls are included but there were hardly any balls available to hit. Started on time, starter friendly and helpful and spaced out foursomes nicely, saw refreshment cart girl on the 1st and 2nd holes but not again until the 15th hole. She was very nice though. Oh, the course... tee box to green, course in great shape. Greens true, rolled forever. Course plays harder than slope rating mostly because of the rough. Carts are new and fast. Pace was good especially for a Sunday. Hole 6 is crazy. You tee off with an iron to layup on a hilly fairway only to hit up blindly to a green looking up a steep hill. There are many elevated tee boxes making risk/reward tee shots fun and exciting. A Greg Norman design.

Played midweek on a beautiful day. Course was not crowded. Played as a twosome and never had to wait or even see anyone in front of us after we played through a foursome that had stopped to get a bite to eat after finishing the front nine. Greens were very fast and not holding shots well, and they had some bare spots. The fairways and the rough were very good, although the rough tended to "grab" your ball if you ventured in. Sand traps were also quite good. Tee boxes were a little uneven in places.
Staff was very courteous and friendly. Senior rate was $65, not $55 as listed on this site. However, if you live nearby and like to go wine tasting, you can get a "passport" good for a $25 off coupon if you taste at three of the four Wente tasting rooms.
This course has some interesting holes such as #'s 1, 2, 8, 12 & 18. Some holes, however, are just bizarre. The sixth hole (260 yards) goes straight up a hill with the green near the ridge. The landing area for the tee shot is about 130 to 180 yards from the tee, requiring a mid iron. The fairway then pretty much disappears, and you second shot has around a 40 foot elevation gain to the green. The thirteenth hole requires a downhill tee shot to a fairway that makes close to a 90 degree turn to reach the green. If you try to cut the dogleg you may end up in the vineyard, which is OB.
The 19th hole is in a great location just off the 18th green, you can watch everyone struggle with the split fairway as you sip a glass of chardonnay.

Course is a beautiful resort with pristine conditions box to green but I'm not sure how I feel about the course layout and design. For me it is not an easy course to navigate because there are many elevated tees and a few uphill runs leaving some level holes. I wouldn't say it was gimmicky but more like very interesting and challenging. Need to play again to give an objective review. Some greens were very fast but others not so fast. Gave us fits trying to figure out if we can hold the green or not. Had too many 3 putts too. If driver not helping, you can find o.b. often in the vineyards or in the fenced off hillside. Bought a set of two coupons at Costco so will play again in near future. Staff and service good. They sell Scotty's for good prices; under retail.

i realize i was also the most recent review from a few months ago, but worth the encore, and well worth the rates one can get on golfnow. beautiful course, great shot values, though I will add #16 to the 'fail' list (crossing ravine @ 100yds out that you can't see from the tee. leave driver in the bag. grrr...) conditions were superb - greens were immaculate, very firm and rolling great despite the very wet weather we have had in the last few weeks. they have started punching the teeboxes, which is a modest nuisance at best. wind was down the day I played, which helped enjoyment factor.

I haven't been here in a while, so it was a good refresher. Quality course, only one hole that is sort of kloogy (#6, short par 4 with elevated tee, approach is straight up a hill), #13 is also an odd one. The closing 2 holes are a beast! Looong from the gold tees, par in would be a great score (didn't come close).
Conditions were great, greens are firm and true, fairways in good shape, rough was cut down, and wind wasn't too bad to boot.

Pretty windy in places here yesterday, but except for a small tournament going on, was not crowded. My first time here, but I'll be back...scenic beyond description. Staff was exceptionally courteous in all areas. I was a bit worried after I climbed to the driving range as I had doubts my cart would make it all around this steep course, but it did without incident. Greens were exceptionally firm, probably due to normal windy conditions and lack of recent rains. For $39 (plus Golfnow.com booking fee), it was a steal. The only negative aspect I found are rocks in some of the bunkers and traps...otherwise the sand quality was very good.

Played here last Tuesday 2/1. It was pretty windy which put a premium on club selection. Overall was very playable. The staff here is always very frindly and accomodating. Played as a single behind a foursome which let me play through on the 3rd, caught up with a twosome on 10 that let me play through and a foursome on 15 which caused the 3.5 hour round. It was cartpath only due to the recent rain. The fairways were firm with some decent roll. The greens were a bit bumped up due to the softness, also they played slow because they had not bee mowed in the last day or two. The only real negative were the bunkers, the sand was crusty on top and very heavy and wet underneath. It's still well worth the green fees as this is a very good course for anyone.

Played here last Monday 9/20. The weather was perfect slight wind about 5-10 from the west. THe course is exceptional at this time. I decided to play from the tips this time and found that this gave me a completly different look than the blue tees. Not only do the holes play longer, but the carries are quit a bit longer, 100+yds in some cases. I found that this made the last three holes extremly strong at 435+ each with water coming into play on 18. The only thing I'm finding is that the par 3s are a light with the greens being large and 3 out of the 4 being elevated and the shortest being 189yds. I totally enjoy playing this track and will try the gold (in between) tees next time. I would highly recommend the course and the restaurant.
