Paid $31.50 for unlimited golf deal. Supposed to be warm but was windy and chilly until 1pm when it finally warmed up. Per my past reviews, I really enjoy everything about this course and today was no exception. Staff was minimal but friendly and efficient. Pace was 4.5 hours (due to my foursome) with no push on either side. Were in a drought but grass is green box to green.

Played Monday, Nov 11, Vet's day. This is one of my favorites in the San Francisco Bay Area. Had a coupon for $45.00. Facilities are worthy of many private clubs I've been to. You start off on hole 11 which features a gorgeous view of the course from an elevated tee box. There are vineyards to the left and down to the fairway is a beautiful lake on the left that dogs to the left to an elevated green protected by water. Beautiful but a little mean for the first hole. There really are not any vanilla-flavored holes here and the signature hole is a par 3 perched high up on a cliff looking down to an island green surrounded by a stunning, scenic winding lake. You'll take a deep breath and take in the view before launching off! I'll play here whenever possible!

Played today on a beautiful day using Groupon certificate for $45.00. Played here only twice before at least a couple of years ago. Pro shop is friendly and well stocked. Didn't eat here. Cart girl was very pretty and friendly. Pace was about 4.5 hours although it was not packed, pace was a bit slow at times. Conditions were great from tee box to greens. Greens were pretty true and above average fast. This is a very fun course with each hole having its interesting quirks but not being gimmicky at all. There were a bunch of elevated tees and their signature hole is a par 3 elevated tee box down to an island green. I don't know why but I always enjoy island greens and especially this one because of its scenic Kodak photo opportunity. So if I can play here as often as I can find decent rates. Very enjoyable and will be more so once I can become more familiar with this fine course.

The course condition yesterday at Eagle Vines didn't lend itself for a productive round, score-wise, but the course does have some interestingly laid-out holes coupled with a generous dose of challenge. The greens had been punched and sanded within the past few weeks, so putting was more a game of "Pachinko" than a skill exercise in putting, but they will get better with time for the upcoming spring season. Fairways were cut very close, with few exceptions, and even after a recent night of rain, still unexplainably hard. However, I can seriously vouch for the Kobe beef cheeseburger that seems to be the Thursday special...YUM! Staff was friendly, especially in the Grill. EV has a driving range, but it isn't very long so you're limited to irons only.

Played today, 10:15 tee time. The course was stacked, ended up taking 5.5 hrs. Despite the long round, I loved the course. Each hole was different, the most variety I have played in a long time. There are some very fun holes with challenging approaches over water to guarded greens. Even with the tough approaches, the course was wide open for bombing drives. I was almost always safe even with slight misses on the drives. A few holes require straight drives to avoid water but nothing too scary. My favorite hole was the par 3 island green, very fun downhill shot to a tough green.

Greens: medium speed but bumpy. A little disappointed for the price, but I think winter plus heavy play can make them like this. Fixed some extra pitch marks. Tough to get a smooth roll. The greens felt soft when you walk on them, but shots still bounced so I would say overall they were good for accepting approaches. There are some tough tiered greens which are more tough when you can putt on a precise line through the bumps.

Fairways and sand: fairways are in pretty good condition. No dead spots, not spongy, and actually had some roll on the drives. It was nice to see the ball bounce and roll for a lot of extra yardage in the winter. The sand was a little thin, but manageable. I was able to get out so I can't complain.

Tee boxes: all were level, most were great. Par 3s not so much. All the par 3 tees were divots not grass. Seems like they need to move the tees around more often, but grass probably isn't growing back in the winter fast enough.

Overall, great course, probably would be even more fun without the long round. I will definitely be back soon even though the greens need a little rest and care to get in top shape. Hopefully by summer they will have the tees and greens smoothed out and growing grass again.

I signed up for this site 1) because it provides an invaluable source of info, 2) The greens at Eagle Vines 9/10/12 were so poor I had to write a review. I paid $59 on golfnow, monday, $4 small bucket. Greens were the quality you would expect at a $20 course in winter. Of course the scenery and challenge is greater than say Diablo Creek, but we all expect greens to be top notch regardless of all other conditions. For the quality of the greens here and the price paid, it will be many years before I return. Extremely disappointed.

Played yesterday for $53 cart included from GolfNow. The course is 100% worth that green fee. The course definitely was not in the best shape I have seen it though.

Found it hard to find a flat lie in some tee boxes and there was severe divot damage on nearly every par 3 tee box.

Fairways and Rough were in great shape. Balls were running in the fairway pretty well. Never found a bad lie in the fairway.

The bunkers could stand to have 1-2 inches of sand removed. It seems to me that they added sand as they do every winter and there hasn't been any rain to pack the added sand. So the bunkers are very powedery and heavy.

Greens were a huge disappointment. They held all approach shots and still had good pace, but they were extremely bumpy. You could visibly see the bumps. They need to be punched and rolled in the worst way.

Pace of play was also an issue. Lot of tough holes on this course. They should put a bigger gap between groups. Tee boxes were stack 2 groups deep on the entire front 9.

Overall I still enjoy this course, it is 100% worth what I paid, but the course is in the worst shape that I have ever played it right now.

Played this course for the first time on Sunday, Jan 29th, 2012. The fairways are awful at the moment, but the sand traps and greens are OK. The tee boxes were fine (played the blue tees and most of my best shots were from tee boxes), the fairway conditions were lousy, and the traps and greens were OK. The layout is spectacular and it can vary a lot from easy to challenging. It can be deceptive - some of the apparently easy, short holes have some tight, well protected greens or they have some surprises awaiting in the slopes on the larger greens. The combination of poor, tight fairway conditions and significant penalties close to greens (including water hazards within 5 feet of a green) was just too much pressure to be aggressive on this course, especially when playing it for the first time. At a guess, it would take me about 5 rounds to sort out my course management for this layout. Despite the exciting layout and the prospect of a solid challenge, I'm not at all excited to return to this course until I can see evidence that fairway conditions improve. There's just no way that I can feel confident to attack this course without lush fairways. Looking at this now, it's very hard to believe that this course has been in championship condition.

We were attracted to the course by a travelzoo deal to play a round that included 18 holes, a cart, a bucket of range balls and a lunch coupon. (BTW, the lunch house is between the 10th and 11th hole, the 9th hole DOES NOT return to the clubhouse, it's weird. So call the lunch house from the 10th tee, where they have a menu board and pickup the order between the 10th and 11th hole; or have them bring it out to you - that's a nice service, when they have enough staff to keep up!)

After a lot of practice on range mats recently, it was a pleasure to practice on a grass range. The range is only suitable for irons. For example, I hit one solid 3 iron that bounced into the back of the net. The range has a few yardage flags, enough to get a feel for the low and mid-range irons. I guess they could complement the iron range with a few nets to hit a driver. The practice facility has a small green and bunker for the short-game too. It's far from impressive, but at least it's there. The practice green near the first tee is OK. I wasn't aware of the better practice green behind the pro shop until I passed through the 10th hole.

Although I've not seen this course before, it looks good from a distance, but when you get up close, the course is very dry and thin. Although it should be winter conditions, we're in the midst of what feels like a drought. We've not had the usual Nov/Dec/Jan rains this year. The last rain we had was a few weeks ago, for a couple of days. We've had a lot of sunny days in the 60s for the past few months. Most of the low lying water features on the course are looking good, but a couple are clearly low on water.

The fairways on the course are too thin at the moment, without a decent layer of grass to slide the club through the ball. I found it very difficult to feel the confidence to play a solid second shot to some of the challenging long par 4s. Although I can hit a solid 260+ drive and a good 3 iron to 200+, it was just too much to play that second shot off tight lies from the fairway. On some very challenging par 4s that require a solid drive and a long, accurate iron to tight greens, I was wanting a lush fairway. Looking at some past pictures of the course, it has seen better days. Maybe this is a seasonal issue or the unusual climate conditions, or maybe the course maintenance practices need a significant revision.

Also, around the greens, it was very difficult to play a confident wedge shot. I found that a lot of the grass was tight, with irregular nodular patches. Also, with a little rain, the soil was just wet enough to be a bit sticky. For example, after a solid drive to within 100ft of the 9th hole, an easy wedge should get close for a birdie chance. It was not to be! The wedge came up about 10 yards short and bounced to the right - I was lucky to stay out of the water hazard, but my partner lost a ball into that hazard - what a stiff penalty! Despite playing preferred lies, the conditions were just too poor for me to be happy and confident about attacking the pin.

Also, some of the grass around the greens have a tough grain or direction to their growth and if you have to chip against that grain, you can forget about getting the club through the ball. I found that most of the grass around the greens was catching and grabbing my wedges, making it almost impossible to slide the club through and get enough spin on the ball. After too many tries, I had to give up on the wedges and switch to a bump and run style of play.

It's sad to see this layout looking so thin. It's a new course, maybe it will take a good decade or more for this course to find a sweet spot in the ecosystem. I wish the course management a lot of luck in learning how to maintain this track as a championship course. That's the design for it, but somehow they need to keep it appealing to the regular golf community when they are not, or cannot, host a championship.

Tee'd off 12noon at Eagle Vines today and for some reason, it was crowded and backed up and barely finished at dusk. Course is very well-kept from tee box to green. Fairways had good run, greens were true and fairly fast and no complaints about the tee boxes. Nice layout and interesting holes without any gimmicks. Plenty of water except the island green lake is drained but soon to be refilled. Beautiful environment and a beautiful day made for a great day to be alive and playing golf! Had breakfast at nearby Hwy 29 Cafe which is a great truck stop greasy spoon.
