Played this evening (7:20) tee off. Fairways are in EXCELLENT condition. Some spots were tad wet near the cart paths. Greens were well kept, but show the normal amount of unfixed ball marks. Wind was present, but once it died down, played really good. Wide, WIDE fairways, can hit driver on quite a few holes. Really nice sand in the traps. NICE touch.

Played here on Superbowl Sunday. Course was EMPTY! We finished in a little over 3 hours. The course was still very soggy from the recent rains, but was still very playable. Hole #2 is a beast! Walker friendly and not very difficult, but fun to play. I'm not going to comment on the course conditions due to the recent rain. It was a very windy day, so I didn't notice the noise from HWY 101. Overall it was a good experience, I wouldn't hesitate to come back.

I play this course monthly and I am always surprise at how good the conditions are. Last week, the rain really soaked the course, but it was still quite playable and enjoyable. The 2nd hole just kills me, but some day I will play it well. Dogleg right with ob right and 2 ponds left. I have actually eagled the first hole and triple-bogeyed the 2nd.

Also #11, hit your driver left of the pond and you have an easy shot into the green.

Course is next to the 101 freeway, so noise on the front 9 is bad, but it is the only negative. Wind in the afternoon make it 5 strokes tougher. Some holes are pretty easy, but some are really tough. Always good service and awesome restaurant.

Played this course on 1/18/08. Overall course condition was good. This is a short course, but the greens putted true, though there were ballmarks/divots that were not repaired by other golfers. It's a wide open course, but weekend play is very slow. We waited at every tee as there were two foursomes ahead of us playing very slow. We had an impatient three some behind us that hit into us couple of times and made sarcastic remarks to us as they caught up to us at tee boxes. (even though they could see that we were waiting for the groups ahead of us on the fairways and tee boxes.) Marshall was of no use as he knew that one of the players in the group ahead of us was known for his slow play and the Marshall made no effort to speed them along.

Played the course on 1/13/08 for the first time. Course is a shorter Par 70. Fairly flat and walkable. There are some interesting short par 4s that call out for some risk reward shots. The course was in good condition, minus some damage from the blown down trees from recent storms and wet spots. Some bare spots on the tee boxes and the fairways had not been mowed in about 3 or 4 days. Some of the fairways sort of looked like the first cut. Slightly shaggy, but still ok.

The greens were in good shape. slightly fast.
The main detraction is the very slow play. We had two slow groups in front of us. The round took 5 hours. Ugh.

Overall worth the green fee if you don't mind the long playing time.

Played Poplar early morning for $30.00 from Golfnow. This is a great course to play early morning if you want to play a fast round & get back to work before lunch time. The course was in very good condition & the greens were playing fast.

Flat course, easy to walk, and pretty for an urban public course. Usually in fair to good condition with fast greens.

Played on Saturday May 20th. Remember this is a MUNI!!! The course will play slow unless you get out early in the morning. There are 5 out of the first 9 holes (2 par 3s and 3 par 4s) that you or a long hitter in your group will either hit or go for. This is why the front nine plays so slow. Another reason is all of the beginners and high handicappers. If you are playing with someone just learning or want to test our a club, or even changing your swing, then this is the course to play. This course is flat and there isn't a lot of trouble. The fairways are pretty wide open, but the holes are close, so watch out for shanks. The greens were in great shape for a muni, but for some reason the 14th green was bad. The bunkers are in pretty good shape too. All around a good course to play. You might even have your lowest round here. If you live near by come out and play this course, but don't travel miles, just to play this coures. It is always in better shape than Shoreline or Palo Alto. So, go out and play it.

Flat level course. Not a lot of surprises, a good course for practice. Pretty windy from the North in the afternoon.

Nice course but pretty boring, not much imagination with the layout. Wide open so if you're looking for that it's a plus. Gets very windy in the afternoon. No driving range just some nets that you can hit into.

Played on a day of pretty constant rain, so a little hard to judge some aspects. Walked with a pull cart (which cost $5) and found many areas which were quite flooded and difficult to navigate. A pretty course, recently redone with a spectacular clubhouse, esp. for a muni. Two ladies in the pro shop did not even ask if I would like to be paired with other players (and there were several going out at or near the time I teed off). Since there were quite a few golfers on the course, I ran into a back-up at the 14th hole, and neither player in the twosome ahead of me made any offers to join them, so I stood around in the rain like a drowned rat while they hacked their way thru the last few holes. If you have to choose only one course in the San Mateo area, go with Crystal Springs--it's by far the better option!
