Played 3/20 as a walk on single. Arrived at 6:45 and on the course by 7:15 with a threesome. Great pace of play for a Saturday morning. Finished in 4 hours on the dot. Course in good shape generally speaking. I would like to comment on some of the bunker work done on this course. Every existing bunker seems to have been renovated. There is a lot of new sand put into them and it's very heavy at the moment leading to some plugged lies and tough explosion shots. This will ease over time though as they get more play. It also seems that most bunkers have been shallowed out. This disappoints me because I always enjoyed some of the classic, deep bunkers on this course that fit perfectly with the scottish-inspired design elements. However, the shallower bunkers will play easier over time and are probably easier to maintain than the deep variety, so pace of play and maintenance should improve. There are also some new bunkers that I noticed. The best of these are on #3, the long par 5. There is now a bunker on the right side off the tee that could come in play for a medium hitter. There is another bunker in the layup area which used to be miles wide. A large ridge runs diagonally from about 130 yards out on the left side of the fairway to 80 yards out on the right side. A bunker is now in the middle of the fairway cut into this ridge about a 100 yards out. Golfers hitting their layup can now choose to hit to the wider left side but face a tougher approach due to decreased visibility or hilly lie because of the ridge. They also must carry a greenside bunker on the approach from the left. Golfers also have a choice to challenge this new fairway bunker and hit to the right side of the layup area or over the bunker. If successful, they will be rewarded with a shorter approach with a better angle free of greenside bunkers. Brilliant change to this hole. There is also a new fairway bunker on the left side of #9 that I liked. It should be easy to carry but it may steer golfers further to the right on this hole where they will have a longer approach. 3 new bunkers were added to the fairway left on #10, but they shouldn't come into play off the tee. Those are the only new ones I noticed, but I could have missed some when I was off the beaten path on a hole. All in all, I liked the fact that the changes were minor because this is a very good layout as it is. Give the new traps some time to settle before making final judgements.

Played Wilson at 8 am on Sunday Aug. 9. 5 hour round seems to be the minimum here. On the bright side, the course was in decent shape. Not spectacular but you get what you pay for. The layout is very solid for a muni - George C. Thomas I believe (correct me if I'm wrong). Good variety of holes requiring you to hit all the shots. Worth playing if you can stand the pace of play.

Played July 10 in the Long Beach City Championship. Course was in good shape. Greens rolled pretty well and the fairways were cut nice and tight. Rough was manageable. El Dorado is a good test. Have to hit smart, straight tee shots to score well.

Played Alhambra at 5:55 am on Sat. 6/27. Course was in good condition all around. It looks like they are working on the green edges - maybe making some smaller, I'm not sure. It looks like a transition from green to fringe is taking place. This has little impact on the way the greens and fringes play, except the holes were tucked close to the edges, probably for a Men's club tournament later that afternoon. It is certainly not a reason to avoid the course. Customer service was fantastic. I made a hole-in-one on #15 and the pro shop staff gave me a free trophy and paid for it to be engraved. I was not expecting that at all for a round that costs only $28 - very nice of them.

Played RR for the first time today. Mad at myself that I didn't come out here sooner. This is a great facility. While a little pricey, I think you get what you pay for in terms of service and quality of golf. The Valley was in very good condition and I really enjoyed the layout. While obviously difficult at 149 slope from the tips, I thought it was a fair challenge for a low handicap player. Some holes had more room than it appears off the tee and the desert areas are not as penal as Angeles National or Rustic Canyon. Still a straight ball is a must if you want to score. The greens were receptive and smooth offering birdie opportunities for smart play and well struck irons. Too many memorable holes to mention only a few here. I will treat myself to a round at RR again soon.

Played on 4/26 in the Anaheim city championship. Course was in good shape - no sign of recent aeration on the greens. If you haven't played here, this is a very tricky little course that takes a while to get used to. It's the total opposite of Dad Miller in that there are tight fairways with OB and hazards guarding, and lots of elevation changes. I have to say that Anaheim Hills has grown on me. It really makes you think and I like the variety in the par 3's, from 142 yards at #7 to 254 yards at #5. However, #12 might be the worst-designed golf hole I have ever seen. But if you take the quirks with a grain of salt, you can have a fun day and really test your game. Oh yeah, one guy in the tournament broke the course record by two with a 8-under 63. It can be done, so don't complain!

Played Dad Miller in the Anaheim city championship on 4/25. They usually get the greens in good shape for this tournament and this year was no exception. The course is pretty easy but there are a few tricky shots out there. LOTS of birdies to be had though. Go play soon, it's in good shape.

Played for the first time in the Fullerton City Championship. The course played much more difficult than it should due to gusty winds and ridiculous hole locations. It's a goofy course to begin with (7 par 3's, par 67), but the clownish pin positions made for a mental test. Fairways are very dry and tight. Rough was inconsistent. Greens were great - fast and very firm - but the hole locations made for some unhappy contestants.

Played Harding on 3/21/09. Good pace of play for Sat. am - 4 hrs, 10 mins. Rarely waited. Course is in OK shape tee to green - variety of lies out there. Greens were in pretty good shape though - rolling smooth.

Played the South course on Sun. morning on 3/15/09 in under 4 hours. This is a perfect resort course. Lush, pristine conditions, no housing within the course layout (except #6, also some OB on course perimeter), and a design that is interesting without being too difficult. The location is fantastic, very close to the big mountains. This also shields the course from the wind. Greens were smooth but a little slow. Good putts still went in. Everything else was in great shape. Casey O'Callaghan did a nice job with this design.

Teed off at 1:30 on 3/14/09. Finished in less than 4 hours - good for a weekend. Unique layout - 6 par 3's, 5 par 5's. Some holes were tight with OB often on the left, but the course is pretty short. Biggest challenge was the greens - very firm and fast. My first time playing and it is a great value for the area.

Played #1 on 3/8/2009. It's too bad they are aerating the greens soon because they were terrific this morning. Fast and smooth. The whole course was in good condition. When Brookside plays like it did today, it is well worth the $40 to walk for Pasadena residents. Only problem (as usual) is that it is very busy. I showed up at 6:30 and was the first single on the wait list but didn't get out until 8:10. But I can't blame people for showing up to play on a nice day like today.
