Played on 7/9. Probably the fastest greens I've ever played. No bumps, whatsoever, and very true to the read. Oh, did I mention FAST?! Shot 39 on the front, but then shot 44 on the back with four 3-putts. This course is incredible in every way. My only complaint is that there wasn't anything to indicate pin placement.

Played a father/son tournament here with the VCJGA. I had played the course once before but really didn't remember much. The course is in excellent (much of it was absolutely pristeen) condition with both fairways and greens. The staff is very courteous and the chicken fingers we got at the turn were extremely tasty. The phone to the snack bar on the 9th tee is something every course should have (why don't they?). There are a few "goofy" holes. I'll have to play there a couple of more times to feel confident in the shot selection on those holes. I felt we played better than our score so I'm sure that "course knowledge" played into that a great deal. Play with someone who knows the course and, as always, be confident in the shot you decide on (easier said than done when you really have no idea what you're looking at).

My son, Stephan, and I play River Ridge nearly every week. River Ridge's support of junior golf far exceeds any course within 100 miles, quite possibly even the world!!! Kyle does a great job on keeping this course at championship level. A great test, especially when the wind blows (when doesn't it?). Thanks River Ridge!!!

Last week, at around 5, my son and I went to hit a bucket of balls there since they have a nice practice facility (where you'll also get a good workout as you walk back up from the driving range). There was absolutely NOBODY there so I asked the girl what it would cost for us to get in a couple of hours. She just gave us the standard twilight. We didn't play - still too much, in my opinion. The reason I asked is because we had a similair situation at Lost Canyons a couple of weeks prior to this and the guy let us out for...well, I won't say 'cause he gave us an incredible deal. But hey, there wasn't a soul out there after 5! I would think that a little money is better than none. I have played Tierra Rejada a couple of times and enjoyed it very much but I don't think it's worth that kind of money especially with Rustic Canyon and Moorpark CC so close by. I'm glad that Lost Canyons was smart enough to take a little money over none - otherwise, it'd probably be long time before I played it since it's way more than I can afford. As for 17 at TR, my 8 year old loves it. He missed an ace by about an inch and ended up with a 6 inch tap-in for birdie. (someday, I hope to have the swing he has!) I had about 6 feet downhill and couldn't hit it hard enough to get it to the hole. They might think about at least mowing that green!

About 7 years ago, I swore I'd never go back to CS. I walked off after an hour and a half - I had just reached the 2nd green at that point behind numerous FIVESOMES! (there were 4 groups waiting to tee off at no. 2) Well, I reneged on that oath because my son, after passing by the course a million times on the way to River Ridge, always begged to play. Now, he and I have both renewed our oath to not go back. Not because of slow play (this time), but because of the condition of the kukuyu infested dump with standing water everywhere, muddy tire tracks (it hasn't rained in at least a couple months) and even patches of kukuyu on the greens! At least one of the par 3 tee boxes had NO grass - I mean NONE! And another was kukuyu that wasn't mowed. Having to hit a tee shot from what is essentially kukuyu rough is ridiculous. And the smell! Geez, what IS that smell?! In my opinion, the place is a dump. It certainly isn't worth the money they charged. Oh yea, I forgot to mention - they also don't give discounts to juniors. They won't be getting any more of my money. I wouldn't go there again at half the price.

This is my new favorite "affordable" course. The fact that I aced No. 8 on 5/9/03 certainly doesn't hurt my opinion of the course. ;-) Incredible views, nice walking course (I hate carts!), fairways like carpet, and greens that the best putter will have difficulty reading. Just try and remember that most putts will break away from the highest point on the course even when, at times, it looks like it'd break the other way (putts appear to break uphill). But the best part, to me, is that you have so many choices in which shot you'd like to hit around the greens. This course is just a blast. Also, I've gone out a few times as a single and haven't met ANYONE I didn't truly enjoy playing with.
