Played on 12/27/09. Overall the course was in very nice shape with one notable exception. The sand traps looked more suitable for off road racing than golf, almost devoid of any sand, and filled with dirt and large rocks. Everywhere else was maintained quite nicely. This is a relatively short course with lots of elevation changes, and beautiful scenery.

Got to play 2 rounds on 10/18, finished the 2nd round at 2:30, doesn't get much better than that.

Course was in typical Goose condition, though the bunkers were a little messy from the rain, and some of the greens are still recovering from recent reseeding. This is just a fun place to play a round, and if you're lucky, play two.

Back at Rancho again today. The greens are recovering from the recent aeration, ranging from pretty nice in some areas to pretty bumpy in others. They're working on the tee boxes on #1 and #5, so they've got the markers moved up on both. We tee'd off at 6:30 and finished under 4 hrs, not bad. Overall, rancho continues to be a good test of golf and a good value.

Played today, 1/19. The course is in pretty decent shape, the grass on the fairways is dormant/brown, but so long as your not in a divot, the lies are still pretty nice to hit from. The greens are mostly smooth with just an occassional bumpy area. This course can have some devilish places to putt from if the pins are in the right (wrong?) places - today was one of those days. Was in one trap today, and the sand was nice. We tee'd off at 7am today, and finished in 3.5 hours, so great pace of play.

Played here on Dec. 27th. The course was in fantastic shape, green and lush throughout. The greens ran about medium-fast. This was my 2nd time here, the first being a summer round about 3 years ago, and the course was just as enjoyable as I remembered it. This is a 'bring your camera' course, especially if you are here on a visit. Its not a punishing desert layout, just a fun track with some great scenery. We did play a lot of the day into a 20-30 mile an hour wind, which definitely made the course a little more challenging than normal.

played today, 11/27. course is in fairly decent condition. the fairways are the only thing, grass is fairly thin, with a very soft, borderline muddy base underneath. i normally don't take much divot, but today i did as the result of the very soft turf. the greens are in decent shape, running about medium, and the sand traps are actually pretty nicely filled. pace of play was poor, and etiquette was also poor. if you hit onto another group's hole, let them hit their shots before running out into the middle of their fairway. lame.

I wish I lived closer to this course, because its one of the best conditioned and best layouts we have in southern california.

I played friday, 6/13. Everything is in top notch condition - greens running medium fast and smooth, fairways perfect, and rough about 2 inches with great borders from fairways to rough. The bunkers were mostly consistent with maybe a few being slightly wet and hard. The driving range grass area was in very nice condition. It was about a 4 1/2 hour round teeing off at about 8:30 which is a little later than normal for me, so it was fine.

If there are any deficiencies in your game, this course will bring them out. You've got to have all the shots to play well here. Oh, and green fees are a bargain here too, especially for scga members.

Played on 4/16/08, and other than the greens being on the slow side (still recovering from recent aeration), the course is in beautiful condition. The fairways and tee boxes are superb. The greenskeepers at this course are to be commended.

They are doing some work on hole 5, and we had to play it as a Par 3. The changes on this hole appear to be smoothing out and clearing out the area around the dry creek where you'd be hitting your 2nd shot over - will make the hole much easier to play from a visual perspective. I guess it depends on your perspective if you think thats a good thing or bad.

This course has a lot of subtle challenges that many players don't recognize, and I think thats probably why a lot of people leave it feeling they should have scored better.

Shhhhhhh. Rancho is in beautiful condition. Greens were as good as I've ever seen them this morning, and some of my fairway lies made me feel like i was playing country club golf. Only bad thing I could say is some of the traps aren't so good, but hey, maybe I shouldn't be in there to begin with. Oh, and a little too much racket from the picketers in front of Fox - "umm, excuse meeee. you're disturbing my golf game." : )

Played yesterday, 10/24. Unfortunately, the greens weren't up to the usual rio hondo standards. Not sure how long ago they aerated, but many greens had a waffle like look to them. It also looked like someone drove over many of the greens. The rest of the course though, is in fairly nice condition, and pace of play was excellent.

Played early sunday, 7/22. The course is in nice condition overall, with the exception of a few beat up tee boxes. Generally, the greens putted smoothly, and with the slope on them, you get a few sweepers to test your skills on. This is a nice course to pick up your confidence on.

Nice early morning round today at the Cho. Course is in pretty good condition; some greens are a tad on the bumpy side, but other than that, lots to enjoy. Always a good test of your skills.
