Played yesterday @ in the afternoon. The course routing is a mess. They are playing a combo of the front 9 of the Old Classic and the back 9 is a mix of some holes from Players and some holes from Classic. Customer service was average. Do we really need a starter on this muni? We were not allowed to pay until right before our tee time. You don't want our money???? The green fees were very competitive for an Orange County course. Snack shop was open.

Greens were good shape running at 9. Fairways were good and rough was spotty and all over the place. The traps were a mix bag of hardpan and average bunkers. Tee boxes were unmaintained, shaggy and bumpy. POP was 4.5 hours.

Out to Oak Creek yesterday with a buddy who is a member. Paid the member guest rate of $105 to play.

Greens were good speed at 9. A little spongy and a little bumpy.

Fairways had good coverage, but again overwatered because of the heat.

Rough was not very penal and spotty in places.

Traps were semi-raked and semi compacted.

POP was excellent at 4 hours and customer service was excellent. A simple "Thank you" for playing our course or "Enjoy your round Gentlemen" is all it takes guys!

Will return soon!

Out to Angeles National yesterday afternoon. Discounted tee time made the round possible.

We played in 3.5 hours taking our time behind a 4 some. The course is dry.....greens were rolling smooth and fast on the practice green, but on the course, the back 9, the greens got really slow. I would say front 9, running at 10, back 9 running at 9. Although not the best I have seen the greens here, they are still better to putt on than most of courses we have played this summer. Sand traps were compact and well maintained.

Fairways were dry with plenty of coverage and roll. Rough was non existent, but you have cactus and dry vegetation everywhere. Hazards everywhere on this course along with 15 mph wind makes for a tough test. Customer service was fine, snack shop was open...the cart attendant was pleasant. Will return for a discounted rate.

Its been over 2 years since I played Brookside #2 even though it is right by my office in Pasadena.

Went out on Tuesday at 2 pm. No check in until 10 minutes before your tee time. Course is just as busy as before, but 10 minute tee time intervals and 4 somes only make POP at 4 hours 10 minutes!! Greens were the highlight of the day running at 9.5. Remember the pull towards the Rose Bowl on all your green reads...for breaks and speed. Tee boxes definitely needed some work and the rough was juicy. Fairways had good coverage. Sand traps were average shape. The snack shop at the turn was closed. Outdoor dining and togo available in dinning room. Super strict about wearing mask on driving range. No mask needed on the course. New carts with GPS were a nice addition. Tons of action all around between joggers, runners, cyclists, and car whizzing by... Definitely sensor overload on the back nine.

Been itching to get back to Simi Hills since I have not played it over 1 year ago. It has been hard to get a time here as it is a popular course with the local residents.

Greens were the highlight of the course. Smooth, and running nicely at 10/10.5 with little ball marks. Fairways had good coverage with several areas spray painted in white as GUR. Bunkers were compact and had rakes. Some tee boxes were being worked on and actively watered, so Gold tees were moved up to where silver tees where. Rough was not very penal. Customer service was great for all that were encountered. Still trying to figure out why the $5 key deposit....is it that big of a problem for people to steal keys??? I bet patrons get annoyed when they realize they forget to get their $5 back. Bar was busy and drinks and food were reasonably priced...they have a nice outdoor area for food and drink services...please support them and purchase goodies from golf course.

Great job Simi Hills...see you soon!

Back out to Rio Hondo yesterday with a couple of buddies at 1:30 pm. Check in was smooth and the course was very busy with the range packed and tee sheet stacked.

$30 single cart fees in effective. Course is in good shape. The greens were still a little bumpy and slow running around 8/8.5. The aprons and area around the greens were in great shape. Fairways were good, but plenty of divots despite the return of the divot mixes on the carts. Sand traps had rakes and in good shape. The restaurant is now open for indoor dining and libations. I had a friend who had not played this course in 10 years...and he became a fan again. Look forward to returning soon.

*** Senior rate pro tip*** from their website:

(Reduce Senior Rates valid all day Monday, and before 8am or after 11am Tuesday thru Friday)

Out to Glen Ivy yesterday at 10:16. They were running a flash sale where if you showed your vaccine card, you got a $52 rate instead of the rack rate of $79. Sweet!

Driving range is completed and looks great! (I have not been here since our last GK Plays event here a few years back). Greens were top dressed...still some bumps running at 8.5/9. A great layout in terms of different holes with elevation changes. A lot of the water elements have returned and the vista and views were terrific in the back 9. Rough and fairways were above average and sand traps were fluffy with RAKES!! Restaurant was open, but everything is served in togo boxes. Again, Hole #18 did not disappoint although the lush avocado trees right of the fairway are all gone.

Quite a trek from Los Angeles, but nice change of scenery.

Will return in another few years.

1st time back out to Palm Springs since March 2020 before pandemic. Golfing in Palm Springs is always a treat. Great pristine golf courses, friendly people, and great food. My brother booked us a Stay/Unlimited Play at the Westin Rancho Mirage with unlimited golf and $20 breakfast credit and 2 complimentary drinks at the bar. The hotel was at 10% occupancy. The golf staff and hotel staff were excellent and everyone was working hard and accommodating. The course is right on the property. Resort style course. Lots of amenities including a bowling alley and large pool with cabanas. All the usual Pete Dye humps and bumps and visual intimidation is there, but toned down for the average hotel resort guest. My brother said they removed a lot of bunkers. I still think there are plenty of bunkers left! Pro shop was well stocked and check in was pleasant. Greens were very smooth running at 9/10. The fairways were in great shape and the only weakness of the course was the rough was not pristine. The bunkers had no rakes and compact sand. Layout was a great mix of unique long and short holes with trouble everywhere....not to mention a lot of white OB stakes. Tee boxes were level and pace of play was 4 hrs on day 1 and 3.45 on day 2. Enjoyed our day and look forward to coming back next time.

Out to Tustin Ranch for a friends bday yesterday.

The greens were bumpy and slow, running at 8/8.5. They are punching greens on 3/15. Fairways were green and had good coverage. Rough was not very penal and traps were not maintained or raked. POP was 4:15. Snack shop was open and customer service was efficient and pleasant. I am a monthly member here so my green fees were just $59, but public rates over $100 is way overpriced. Despite that, the tee sheet was packed. I play here because my buddy is a member too and its a good spot for me to see clients in Orange County. Will return again next month to see if greens improve.

Out at Sierra Lakes today at 10:30 am. We lucked out and it was not too windy. Been over 10 yrs since I played here.

POP was 4:45. Parking lot was packed. $15 surcharge for single rider. First time seeing a sand trap rake in 1 year.

Green were highlight running at 9/10 with plenty of unfixed ball marks. Fairways had above average winter coverage. Sand traps were thin and needed sand. Tee boxes were above average. Wide fairways and unique layout kept things interesting. Saw cart gal twice on front 9. See you again in 10 years Sierra Lakes.

Out to Goose Creek yesterday at 11:00 am. Considering it is a dry winter, the course is in great shape. The highlights were the greens. Smooth and running around 10/11. Fairways had great coverage and rough was not too penal. Sand traps had semi-firm sand. White tee boxes were level and in good shape. Some flags were in some tucked positions. POP was 4.15 minutes with a packed tee sheet obviously. We realized the more we play here the settle bumps and undulations of the greens. Snack shop was open (please tip generously) and cart girl was making rounds. Customer service was fine. Starter was pretty useless and not up to par with rest of staff. I let Goose Creek know in their post round survey. Also want to mention again the great practice facility here. Looking forward to returning!

Out to Los Serranos - South course with some buddies at 10:58 am. It has been over 10 years since I played the South Course. 1/3 of the parking lot was yellow roped off was the bad news trying to find a parking space. The good news is that a delivery of new fleet of golf carts was coming with the Shark Experience in them. (Hence 1/3 of parking lot yellow roped off). Apparently, their carts have been dying quite a bit. It was a welcoming sight to know that our carts were the new ones.

Check in was super crowded between two courses, a Titleist fitting day, and a packed range. You pay, you wait and when it's your turn to get in your cart, you go! Check in, sign for cart and off you go.

The course is tough test even from the white tees. A great mix of elevation changes and variety of holes. The rough was very spotty mix of dirt and weeds. They just gave up on watering the rough. The fairways were fair shape. The greens were the best part of the course, running at 9/9.5. The sand traps traps were fair and rake less. The 2nd best part of the day was POP at 4 hr 10 minutes! I would not have imagined that after seeing the clubhouse staging area packed with golfers.

The snack shop was open. The routing of this course is confusing. They need more signs. Many times, we just guessed and we were wrong!

I enjoyed our day out....what made it special was my brother Tony made an ALBATROSS on hole 16. The hole was par 5 (481 yard). He hit driver and 5 iron. The 5 iron flew into the hole...no divot...no rolling up...no bounces....AMAZING!!!!! Chances of ALBATROSS is 1 in 16 million chances...vs Hole in 1...which is 1 in 12,000 chances.

Will return at some point hopefully!
