Out early on an overcast, drizzly, typical "May Gray" morning. Not very crowded at all. Course is in overall nice condition. Greens are just now healing from the recent aeration. Fairways have good coverage. bunkers, tee boxes are just fine.

Funny thing is, I played here Sunday morning and only a couple holes were CPO, but today there were almost twice as many CPO holes? Nothing changed in three days? There is an upcoming "Windmill Tourney" so maybe they're trying to get the course in even better condition, to the detriment of the regular players.

Golf Moose ran a voucher for a MFAD and I got to play this private course right before it ended. $130 for a twosome. Pancake flat layout that runs thru a housing development. Wind, water, and sand are the major defenses for this course. I played a blue/white combo that was 6316 and a fair test. We caught a 75-degree day with very little wind (very rare) so it played easier than... » More

We caught a 75-degree day with very little wind (very rare) so it played easier than I was expecting. The wind can really howl out here and there is water on every single hole.
I enjoyed the layout; houses surround the course but don't really come into play. The course was in perfect country club shape, good lies, plenty of fairway roll, fluffy sand in all the numerous bunkers and smooth fast greens.
The staff were top notch and very accommodating. We played in the afternoon and had the course to ourselves. If Golf Moose runs another special next year, I highly recommend checking it out.

I see they did maintenance about a month ago but you wouldn’t know it. Greens beat up,pebbles in bunkers. It’s basically the same as it was a month ago.

First off, I love this beautiful challenging course. Been playing there more often recently but some of the decisions by the management have left me cold.

First off, I love this beautiful challenging course. Been playing there more often recently but some of the decisions by the management have left me cold.
For two scheduled tournaments they pulled some weird stunts;
1. They cancelled one a week before and said they overbooked the course and made us play the following week right after a qualifying women's round that was extremely slow.
2. When we showed up for our tee times the course sad we were pushed back 45 minutes with no valid or justifiable reason. Basically they gave away our tee times to whoever.
These scenarios are unacceptable but the course doesn't really care. That's today's golf courses! I'll think twice before returning to this great course.

I have always thought of Recreation Park as one of my favorite municipal courses to play. While certainly not the best or most difficult of the Long Beach courses, it is just a fun relaxing track. I have always thought of Recreation Park as one of my favorite municipal courses to play. While certainly not the best or most difficult of the Long Beach courses, it is just a fun relaxing track. Used to play here quire often when I lived in Westchester, but now living in Orange County, coupled with the cost now to play here, just don't have the desire to play here much anymore.

Last review was very accurate, although I did not find the greens all that inconsistent. Slower than I expected. Fairways were generally OK, some thin spots, but not a big deal. Only in one bunker and while it was rather thin as to the amount of sand, not an issue. Played early, so pace was reasonable, which has always been the case here. (But that's true probably everywhere) Enjoyed the round, and miss playing here, but given the distance from home and the prices now, only get out here on rare occassions
