Played here Sunday morning. It was my first time and wasn't sure what to expect since I had heard horror stories about how slow it can be. Had a 9:30 tee time but didn't get out until 10:15. It was slow, but moved along and didn't have to wait except for waiving up on the par 3's. The tee boxes were in pretty good shape because it looks like they move the markers around alot. The problem there is then you aren't sure what the exact yardage is on the par 3's. The fairways were smooth and the rough wasn't too bad - just enough to make you suffer a bit for not hitting the fairway. The greens were in good shape, but they are flat as pancakes!! It was a fun course and I'd play here again.

Played on the 4th of July. Actually wasn't too backed up and my wife and I played in just over 2 hours. This course is fairly straightforward, as there is not much undulation or trickery to the course. If you have any skill you can tear this course apart. I have played here 3 times and haven't shot worse than 3 over par. A couple of the greens are driveable and the greens are as straight as they come. If you are looking for a cheap, nine hole round of golf, then Penmar is definitely the place to be. And if you are a beginner this is a good course to get your feet wet. Just watch out for me if you are out there because I will hit into you if you take too long! LOL

Played on Friday May 25th at 3:18pm. Play there quite often and went out there hoping for a miracle (which I define as less than a 2.5 hour round) but yet again fell short. The course itself is in good condition, with the greens a little bumpy.
The real tragedy here, is that we have a great 9 hole course that could be amazing if they would send out foursomes rather than the dreaded 5some. I don't know why they are so facinated by that, but it slows down play so much that I am almost ready to give this course up - and it's down the street from me! You simply can not get through here in less than 2.5 hours, and 2:45 or 3 hours are not uncommon.
Lack of a driving range make warmup impossible, so be prepared to hit cold. Sitting 5-10 minutes between shots doesnt help the warmup factor.
In all, this could be a gem, but the 5some kills it for me.

www.penmargolf.com is the web site of Penmar Golf Club.
Currently 36 local tournaments are schedule for 2007. 1 on the 3rd Thursday of the month and Weekend Warrior Skins games on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of every month.
The course is in great shape, Fairways are lined with trees and it will punish a wild hitting golfer. Greens have good putting surfaces with hidden gental breaks.
This is a 9 hole course... back tees are being added and new ratings are forth coming. Current Rating is 31.9 with a 106 slope from the whites.

Penmar is a "locals" course. It's great if you live nearby, but its really not worth going out of your way. It's simple and flat. Its a fairly busy public course and in great shape for all the use it gets. The only green that has a break is the practice green. All nine greens are flatter than pancakes and play straight. Locals call the course the bowling alley - it is flat with some trees to the sides. A good course for beginners. On a bad day, you will practice hitting out from under the trees. There aren't many sand traps - the sand is usually pretty compacted because of all the moisture in the air. You'll get a couple of airplanes flying overhead from Santa Monica Airport. There's a beautiful view of the snow capped mountains from the fifth hole in the winter. The third and eighth holes are prime for getting your first or next hole in one. Avoid Fridays and 10 AM tee times - busy
