Played Trump National G.C. yesterday during Veteran's Day as a single. Arrived at the course parking lot and was immediately greeted by the friendly bagboy and bag was taken to the starter for me. Check in and was again friendly greeted by the proshop staff. Starter, Neal, gave me all the informations I needed to know in order to enjoy and play a good round. Went to the range to hit a few balls for warm up. Range was free and well stocked with water, golf tees, and plenty of great condition practice balls. Played with a twosome, John and Fernando. Golf course was in good condition with very little wind. Pace of play was perfect just enough time to hit the ball and enjoy the beautiful ocean view at every hole. Greens were just a little sandy, but still puttable. Had a great time. Only advices are to hit it smart and not hard, and to bring a few extra balls.

Wow, this course is awesome. Great view, there was no wind, the ocean was glassy, and the temp was in the low 80s. Luckily, IBM is approves treating my client to a nice round of golf, in other words, I didn't pay...IBM did.

One thing was a little different from most courses, the greens. ...are you kidding me? Wow! Miniature greens! 5 tiered greens with ridiculous pin placements. I mean, ridiculous. The tee shots are very humbling, because, when you look at the fairway, all you see is trouble. WOW! I am sure if you played this course, you know how to manage this course, but, going into it blindly was kinda amusing. haha. The rough was quite ridiculous. If courses don't have ball spotters, don't grow it so d%mn long!!!! I lost 3 balls in the rough. We knew where they went, but, the rough swallowed it!

Overall, I did enjoy it. Donald was playing the course, while, we played. It was cool seeing his Ferrari parked outside the clubhouse.

First let me say that I didn't pay the regular weekend rate which is $375 plus the city tax which would have been about $400... we had a coupon for $145 but don't forget the city tax... which brought the total to $155 and some change so the coupon is the way to go... over 60% off. The other humorous thing was the "Donald" showed up to play... he was suppose to be in the group in front but decided to go off the back nine instead... probably safer for him. With that being said, it's a beautiful course and the views are spectacular. The course plays kind of short but what makes it tough (at least for me) is that the fairways are a bit narrow, more so because if you go off the fairway and the "deep deep" rough then it's the enviromental area so it seems narrower because there less room for error. Some par 4's are drivable but well protected so it's better to just play it safe. Final word: I'll go back and play it one more time if I get another coupon.

Awesome golf experience! Expensive but worth it. This is the best course in LA County if not SOCAL. We took a camera and took lots of pictures and had a blast. Staff was very nice and food was great. Very challenging course with ocean views on every hole. I read before that it was overrated and not worth the money. I disagree. It was the best golf experience Ive had and I will go back again.

Strange course with lots of gimics. It's mainly made up of straight holes that parallel the ocean. Greens behind, right and left are surrounded by unplayable areas so that if you miss by more than 25 feet in any direction you need to take a drop. Fairways are fairly wide but most are severely sloped so that balls landing in the fairway often wind requiring a drop from the unplayable lie. Course has no trees, no doglegs, just lots of traps and crazy greens. I've never met anybody that has played this course that plans to go back. Count me in to this group.

All I have to say to the Donald is, "Your Fired!" This is proclaimed to be the world first golf course design by Donald Trump and after playing here it should stay that way. Throughout the whole round there are prevailing winds (pretty obvious for a course off the cliff), but it seemed like every hole was into the wind. On some of my approach shots I was 110 yds out and had to hit a solid 9 iron (my 145 yd club) just to give you a notion of how these winds really afffect the ball flight. The first hole was simple, par should come easy but once you go under and through the waterfall bridge count your scores good bye. If you don't believe me after reading this review, you'll be sorry and paying an arm and a leg for more golf balls. BRING PLENTY OF GOLF BALLS at least a dozen if your a single digit handicapper.

Tee box & Fairways: The tee boxes were in excellent shape, hardly any tees lying around, pretty even lies, but the fairways were "horrific". I've been to some courses that state that they have overseeded their fairways, but here it was like playing out of the rough even if your on the fairway. As I mentioned before, the holes usually play onto prevailing winds so I good roll of your tee shot should be the least you can get from this course.

Greens: Although they seemed fast on the practice green, they seemed a little slow out in the field. I didn't three-putt as much as I thought I would so it's not a difficult course to putt on once your on. Most reviewers complained about the putting, severe undulations, and it's unfairness once your on the putting surface, but if your not close to the pin, "what do you expect"? Make sure you bring plenty of golf balls or go hunting for them on the ESA. This "one stroke" penalty rule really ruins your score here. I'm a single digit handicapper and played like beginner. You have to keep it 'straight' and you have to be long to carry over rivines, creeks, and the like.

Service & Valet: The staff and personnel were immaculate, very helpful in giving you the rules prior to play. Unfortunately when we played it was "Cart path only", so the GPS system was not very effective from the carts (good thing we brought our SkyCaddie). Post-round we had "A round" of drinks and I decided to pay the round for our foursome, talk about being a nice guy and getting stiffed with a $45 bill for 4 drinks!!!

Scenery: If you wish to come out to Trump National, the scenery is about the "only" thing you'll enjoy here. The price of admission is definitely NOT worth the condition of this course. I've seen much better golf courses for 1/3 of the price that we paid here. Some GK members have reviewed this course and said, "You'll have a memorable experience". That is really an understatement, this place will be the first and last time you'll see me there. If your still reading this, I wouldn't even play there for "Free", it's definitely not worth it. I should have taken the advice of my fellow GK members!!

Very nice conditions & excellent service. Worth $275 on a weekday? No. Glad it was a comp round. Conditions at Angeles National exceed the Trump for a quarter of the cost. Great views of the ocean though. There are a few hokey greens with absurb tiering.

Played today (1:10) it's OK, not worth the $$$$$$$. The rought is like the US Open, it is nuts. Lots of other places to play that are better. I'm happy I didn't have to pay for the round.

Amazing views, tremendous piece of property, great service...and the golf course architect(s) should never be allowed to design another course...some very, very easy holes (1, 2, 4, 10, 12, 15, 16) and some ridiculous holes (14 is a complete joke of a par 5). never played ocean trails, but it seemed like pete dye's hands are still on the course (funky bunker placement, ridiculous green undulations (what's up with #12?))...while the views beat pebble, the course doesn't come close...probably should play it once just to see what it's about, but if your thinking about playing again, save your money (or play it on somebody else's...). if i saw one more picture of the donald there, i think i would've lost it....

The course is not worth the $300 green fee, however, it is does offer beautiful views and some difficult holes (and some "Mickey Mouse" holes as well). The greens are far too shaggy and slow for a course of this "calibur"/cost and I don't see this venue becoming the next Pebble Beach. It is an interesting round if you ave $$$$$ to burn.... Tijeras Creek would be a much better value with much better greens, but no view.

played here on 2-21 for by birthday and have 1 complaint, who designed the greens? these were the most undulated and tricky greens i have ever played. the rest of the course is nice and unbeliveable views. the staff is very nice and explained what was needed to know, except how to play those greens. i doubt that i would go back. tell the Donald, YOUR FIRED, to the person that designed the greens!!

Played here on Thursday, December 21, 2006. What a treat. A buddy of mine got married here a few months ago and he invited me to play. Valet service was excellent and Manny the starter took care of us on the driving range prior to playing. The driving range was mats but the balls were decent (Titleist practice). After a few shots, it was our turn to play.

I didn't like the fact that they had different carts for the range and different ones for the course. The cart boys had to switch our bags from one cart to another before starting the round.

Sidenote: One thing about playing high end courses- It's not entirely about the course but the background of the players playing the high end courses. Here, my buddy and I were teamed up with a twosome that turned out to be some of the nicest people you will ever meet. We were paired with Heins-a major golf course builder in Europe. We got to know him and Elga a little better and by the end of the round were invited to play at his many courses in Europe next time we were out there.

Back to course feedback: The course overall is not a very easy course to play. It is really narrow. The tee boxes were a 8, the fairways another 8, and the greens were a 7. Coming off a pretty easy day at Los Serranos where I shot a decent score, any drive that even slightly deviates from the fairways is a ball donation to the course. One thing, the GPS system is by far the best I've ever encountered. Kudos to the Donald on this one.

Note: Because I play Top Flites, I found myself trading Top Flites for ProV1x's pretty regularly in the bush.

Here are some comments on a few of the holes: Hole 1: Short par 4. Elevated green with the waterfall makes for some interesting scenery. Driving to the green reminds me of the Matehorn at Disneyland. I think they got a deal on the same rock structures from the same vendor.

Hole 2: Par 5. Keep to the right as the hole straddles PCH on the left. Easy birdie hole.

Hole 4: Par 3 with great views. Same views on Hole 5.

Hole 7: Encounted the cart girl on this hole. Paid $2 for chips and another $2 for one granola bar (plus tip).

Hole 9: The golf cart screen asks you if you want to order some food from the outdoor grill prior to beginning this hole. One thing, it doesn't give you the price on the food you order. Be prepared to pay up.

Holes 10-12 are on the other side of the clubhouse. I was surprised by how crowded it was to start the back nine.

Be sure to bring your camera and take tons of pictures with your friends on this course. That's about the only thing that this course has going for itself.

You're better off playing Oak Valley in Beaumont (same type of environmentally sensitive bush surrounding the course) for much cheaper. It also is a lot close in length when playing from the tips.

In short, unless you are playing this course on someone elses dime, OR if you are visiting from inland Europe and have money to play a high end course, you are better off playing somewhere else for the money.

Course in wonderful condition from tee boxes, fairways, bunkers and greens! Not a very easy course for the beginner .......in fact you should play from your true tees. Played with two guys who thought they were better than they were, started at the black tees and after a few holes moved up to the blue tees. A few holes require some long straight drives from the tee box to even land the fairway....like almost 180-200yards. Tough greens but they do roll true. Probably the hardest thing on this course is...if you are not straight, you will be off into the enviromentally sensitive brush or the thick thick rough and bunkers that line many holes. This is a beautiful course, but not a very fun course. Forget keeping your score, but just enjoy each hole for its beauty and surrounding views of the Pacific Ocean. Was surprised how crowded this course was considering how much $$$$....in fact the back 9 was slow and backed up on the final 3 holes. Would I go back.....well if someone else paid for me!

Greens and fairways were punched last week so the course was a little beat up. Even if it was in immaculate condition it's not worth the high green fee. Great views, great service and great food. Kind of like playing golf at Disneyland with the manmade waterfalls. Go play it -- if it's on someone else's dime

Let's just say if you can get somebody else to flip the $195 midweek green fee, then it's okay to play. I wasn't overly impressed with the overall facility. You would think for that kind of money they would at least have a grass driving range. Nope, mats!. My impression is that The Don might be kind of cheap. No bag tags, ya you can buy one for $12 bucks. I've played courses for around $60 that gave you tees, divots tools, yardage books. Not here. About the course. It was okay. Beautiful views of the ocean. At first the waterfalls seem kind of cool, but then they have about 3 of them that all look the same. The coures isn't increadibly tough. You just need to hit a pretty straight tee shot. The greens are what will kill you. It's hard to predict the break due to the ocean influence. Some greens break hard towards it, some barely move. It's kind of a guessing game. Overall it was just an okay experience. I was pretty pumped about playing it, but I know I will never play it again.

There is both good and bad about this course.

The good is that there are the most beautiful views of the California Coastline, better than Torrey Pines or Pebble Beach.

The bad is that on a Thursday morning the round took over six hours. The golf course superintendent informed me that Rory Sabatinni and Lee Westwood played there the day before and it took them six rounds to play 18 also. I asked the course marshall why its so slow and he said it's slow all over and drove away.

The design is very poor. One guy behind us got hit two times by errant tee shots. There are a lot of parallel fairways at different elevations when your ball drifts into another fairway you can't tell if you are going to hit someone.

Although a guest, I wish I had known the above before as i would not play the course again even if it was free.

Great condition but a mickey mouse layout. On many holes ball rolls off slanted fairways and into hazard areas. Some of the grees have hazard areas about 3 feet behind the edge of the green. Waterfalls are unnecessary and don't come into play. Play it once - I'm sure very few people will return .... unless someone else is paying.

If you want to play a course with spectacular ocean vistas, then Trump would be it. The 1 and only negative thing I would say about this course is it's price ($195/round). Other than that, if you have friends from out of town wanting to play a course with an ocean view (every holes but the 1st have an ocean view), Trump beats all the other courses in the immediate LA/Orange County area. The course is immaculate. The rough is almost US Open quality. I would say the rough is as tough to get out of as Torrey Pines. For example, I was able to advance the ball 75yds with a CPR 24 hybrid from a uphill lie; after I hit my ball, two other balls (dislodged from the same area of the rough) came rolling down to my feet. The fact that they were both Pro-Vs meant that their owners probably spent a lot of efforts looking for these guys. In the course of the round, I ended up finding 6 Pro-Vs in the rough (not OB or enviromental areas; but in play) while in the process of looking my own ball in the rough. My suggestion is to bring wide sole irons and plenty of hybrids; and keep your eyes on the ball when it goes into the rough (it's in there ...somewhere). The greens have lots of undulation and hard breaks (and not necessarily toward the ocean). The speed on the green is not as fast as you think, other than the obvious downhiller. Play your approach shots like a link style course. There is no "1 hop and stop" on these greens, even on the par 3s. And finally, play 1 tee forward from what you use to, especially if it's your 1st time there. Having to carry over 200 yards over a ravine and into a 20-30mph head wind after 16 holes on a par 3 seems to take the fun out a beautiful course.

I played here last when it was Ocean Trails and I did not care for that course. I went into this course expecting an overpriced version of the same thing. Wrong! While I don't believe the course is worth the $$, it is one of the best conditioned courses I've played. The staff was totally delightful. The rough was up so the course played tougher than it normally would (Per the starter) because of filming of the "Big Break" on the Golf Channel. Local knowledge would have helped, but at these prices I won't get a lot of local knowledge here. I played the blue tees and that means that for those of you that have not yet played here, that means you have to go all the way back to the "pod" to the left of the 17th green to play from the "real tees" 487yd par 4. One tough finishing hole to say the least. I have to admit I thoroughly enjoyed myself and IF I had lots of money I play here all the time.

Great conditioned course compared to some of the others in the area. This course is definately one of the more difficult courses from the back tees. You MUST be able to control your tee shots on this course, from there it does not present to much of a challenge from the fairway in. The only complaint with this course is it lacks the diversity necessary to make it one of the "best in the state" as it is self acclaimed. This combined with the fact that the round took extremely long with 2-3 groups at one tee box at one time. The marshalls may be intimidated by the clientel because our group did not recieve any help from them. The final complaint I have is with the service the starter, and pro shop were very professional, but the attitude from the halfway house and grill staff left you wondering why for $300 a pop you still felt as if you were dealing with the cart boys at local muni track. All in all very nice course, but not worth the green fee.

I understand Trump's trying to compete with Pebble, but the price is not worth it. I don't like Pebble either. Rounds usually take long because people are always looking for their balls. You can get lost with the scenery but if I'm paying that much money, I would like to get a nice 4 hr round in (preferably less) and shoot a decent score. For the price, I would rather drive over to Los Verdes and pay a tenth of the price and still get good views with the same slow round.

Enjoy every seconds eventhought you are being pussed by the marshall...$195-300/person being pussed the marshall only at second hole...it was ridiculous. Well anyway every player in front of us was enjoying the game as well as the view...Other than that you should try, it was phenomenal experience.

Played twilight on Friday April 21st. Finished the round in just over 4 hours. Course was fun and exciting, many blind tees shots and a great challange. Some words of advice include- listen to the GPS system on the cart, bring extra balls, and let the ball release off the front of the green, since they are hard to hold. Many undulating fairways, and no matter what you read on the green, always remember that the putts break toward the ocean, even on downhill putts away from the ocean. The sights are amazing, the softest bunkers I have ever been in. By the way, the cafe and restaurant are great, the food and service is good, and look for the young magician in the cage, he is amazing, ask to see the awesome flying credit card tirck. Overall, a great experience, great grass driving range, and great cart guys.

It was "huge"!!

Donald did well.

I enjoyed my lunch upstairs in the grand ballroom.....lol....sorry for using that white linnen knapkins to wipe the bbq and mayo off my face from the great burgers and chicken sandwiches at the turn, donald!!

My only complaint is the d%mn wind. I shot a 82 from the black tees and felt it was an exceptional round. What a tough test. 18 tee from the back is brutal into the wind. You gotta try it. I bet I could shoot a few strokes under par at most. I'll be back to tame this beauty soon. We got lucky and dodged the rain last week and had a unbelievable clear view out to sea....well past catalina...... It's pretty d%mn tough golf though. Listen to your GPS.... it will save you a ton of strokes here.

The trash cans are lined with white linnens!!! Holly s-----h---i----t !!!!!

Just look at those houses across from the front gate. There must be 500 windows on the one directly accross the street from the front driveway!!!!

You're fired!

WOW! Played on 3/9 and this course is beautiful and immaculate. Every bit of this course from the clubhouse to the crushed marble sand in the bunkers is absolutely gorgeous. The views are incredible from every single hole. The course itself is very, very tough. You HAVE to drive the ball straight or you will be OB and lose a lot of strokes and balls. The greens have a lot of undulations and many different tiers. And to top it off, Donald Trump himself was there and he even watched our foursome play our 2nd shots on #1 and even chatted with us for a bit. Overall the best course I have played and worth every penny.

Great shape, excellent views.

I arrived an hour before my tee time and found it frustrating that they only give you 10 balls to warm up. I asked for more, but was told it was only 10 per customer. Not what you would expect from a high end course!

The only reason I dragged myself to Donald Trumps baby is because they had a "2 pay 4 play" special. Great deal for $49.00. I would never pay full price for this torture. MUST hit fairways or bring lots of balls, but not your ProV1s. Mr. Pete Dye is a bonafide lunatic. Suck it up and play the whites and you'll enjoy it.

golf course in great shape. temporary tee on 1st hole, plays as par three and tees on 11 move way up, plays like a long par 3. greens smooth but not that fast. they should do something with all the grass cuttings on the fairways, like pick it up. glay we got the 4 play 2 pay deal, because its not worth $99.00. there are alot better courses for less than $99.00. like moore park country club, rustic canyon, robinson ranch, goose creek, etc.

Beautiful golf course!!! Donald Trump says he wants to make this place better than Pebble Beach and I think he is really serious about it. The course conditions were super. Very lush fairways, and the greens were rolling very smoothly. The views were spectacular!!! Ocean on one side, houses and mountains on the other. At 120 dollars for unlimited golf on the weekends, it is quite a good deal. The only setback is that we should play as a foursome, if not, we will be stuck behind groups of foursome which really makes the round long and boring. When the whole golf course is done with the construction this summer, I think it will be one of Southern California's most expensive as well as a premiere golf course that can rival any other golf destinations.
