Had to get around to checking this one off the old list eventually. Even though I knew you could play the course with a resort stay & play, I was never in a big hurry because I knew it was overpriced and the course was nothing too amazing. Some friends did the stay and play this weekend, so I decided to join them and pay the guest rate today. I paid a little extra for unlimited play, so I could play all three nines (and then some). Ended up playing 72 holes there just to help justify the cost : ) I played North-East-South with my two friends, then one dropped out. The other friend and I continued with 18 more on South-East. Then, I stuck around by myself to play North-East-South again. It was somewhat busy out there, but things were spread out and we were able to jump around a few times to get around each stretch relatively quickly. The starters were also great in helping us/me as we kept looping around and around. We also had a lunch break in there somewhere. The service was very slow in the lounge (which was packed), but the burgers were excellent. The course was in great condition all around, especially the South and North nines. The East feels a bit like the red-headed stepchild here and it was a notch down condition-wise with a few more bare spots in play. Otherwise, things were very lush and green throughout the course. Tee boxes and fairways excellent. Rough is interesting because you will encounter stretches of kikuyu, rye and bermuda throughout this course. However, most everything was very nicely kept and consistently cut. No matter what kind of grass you find, the rough is punishing here as the ball just settles down and can often be tough to find if you are not standing right on top of it. The bunkers were excellent and the greens were also fantastic, rolling smooth at relatively quick speeds. All in all, I was impressed with the conditions. As for the layout, it is kind of blah, which is what I've always heard. It's not bad and there are a few interesting holes peppered throughout each nine, but the terrain is very flat and there just isn't anything too distinctive or exciting about it. It's solid and the conditions helped make it enjoyable, but it's definitely a one and done for me due to the cost. My friends seemed unimpressed by the resort lodging/amenities, which sounded pretty basic.
