Tee it up with GK’ers xazntigerx, jerry64 and jeroethel on Thursday. Tee it up around 12:00noon and zipped around the course. Great fun on an awesome track. It was my first time playing the Snow Mountain course having only played the Wolf course prior. I was expecting the Snow Mountain to be a small let down compared to the Wolf but I ended up liking the Snow Mountain layout better. It is a visually stunning course with vast desert back drops, huge water features, strategic dog legs, risk-reward opportunities…honestly about everything I enjoy most about desert golf. Its easily one of my very favorite courses played. As for conditioning, besides the greens being more bumpy and slow than I expected since Snow Mountain is the only Paiute course that has predominately poa greens in comparison to the Sun Mountain and Wolf that have predominately bent greens. What happens is the poa grows faster than the bent this time of year so it's hard to keep a smooth surface in the winter. However the greens were not too bad, just not pool table smooth greens I’ve come to expect from Pauite. As for the rest of the course, I felt the fairways were excellent. Firm and lush. Lots a roll and the ball sits up well. No bad lies to be found anywhere. The rough, likewise to the fairways and cut only about an inch higher so no issue at all hitting from it. I was in many sand traps and found them to contain high quality sand, soft and a little compacted, very easy to play from. Tee boxes where in great shape, cut tight, well groomed and only moderate divot damage. Something worth mentioning is Snow Mountain is the first of the 3 courses constructed so the layout essentially surrounds the dramatic clubhouse. I’ve had lunch and dinner there many times so finally playing the 18th hole, which is completely on display from the bar and dining area was real treat for me. The 18th hole is nothing short of spectacular…if only I drained that 12 footer for par! – next time. Well, now I’ve played Wolf and Snow, so Sun Mountain is next. From talking to the Staff over the years, most like the Sun Mountain the best…can’t wait.
