Played two rounds on 8/8/11 for $30.00 and $20.00 replay including cart. A lot of up and down on this course, but I did one person walking. No way for two rounds you would be dead. The course is in very good shape and worth the drive over from San Francisco (about 1 hr.). Greens are not fast and I could not read them to save my life. The guys I played with said the same thing and they play here all the time.

Great shape, solid presentation, challenging and fun layout. Our 2fer ($35) teed off at 0715 on Wednesday morning following a full field at this early hour; many more behind us. Good check in and well stocked pro shop. Nice staff throughout, and good brief from the starter. Tees and fairways in great shape; lush. The primary rough is lush and thick and around 3 inches; secondary rough allowed to dry out and sparse. The sand throughout the course is tired. Some bunkers don't have sand, but are dirt and clay; needed- renewing sand. Approaches to greens and surrounding areas well manicured, maintained and watered. Greens ALMOST immaculate; very true, smooth, holding well just a bit slow (could be early morning speeds). The layout with all the vistas provided a very pleasant round for us, lots of drinks cart passes and water stations. Lots of comments from our four ball on how well the course presented. Pace was on 4hrs 30 and a good time had. We witnessed a small practice putting green and grass range, and very good grill.

leave it to a guy who paid $20 to play golf to whine about the conditions....get a grip. nevraider is also wrong about the ownership group which is local (and not asian). troon ran the course into the ground and the new owners have worked hard for 3 years getting it in great shape. Shadows Lakes is fun and plenty challenging. Green, tees and fairway turf are as good as any in the east bay, especially when you get to play for under $50!!

Played the course on Friday, December 10. Shadow Lakes used to run by the Troon Golf and two years ago it was sold to an Asian group. The course is not the same! Yes, green fees are $20 with a cart on golf.now but there's a reason......greens are incredibly slow as you have to bang the ball even on downhill putts. As a low handicapper who loves fast greens, I will not be back. Also, many bunkers have no sand in them which are unplayable.....these folks are not putting any money back into the golf course which is a shame.

Played yesterday afternoon. Course was in beautiful shape, fairways and greens were excellent. Best value for greens fee in the central valley after 1pm (20$ with a cart) especially with quality and condition of course. It plays in the foothills with some very picturesque holes either going up or downhill. The wind plays a factor in some holes as well so you can grip and rip for some, others you have to be a shotmaker like #16, a severe downhill par 4 with water at 220 yds or if you can carry your drive 260 yds over water to a 30 yd wide strip that leads to the green. Tip- don't try it, the wind swirls and will kill your drive over the water. Better to go 3-4 iron off the tee and be in front of water to have a clean approach to the island green. Love the course, played it last year in a tournament and have played there several times since. It is worth the drive.

Played the course Friday 8/6. Very nice staff in the clubhouse and in the restaurant/bar. Beautiful facility with grass and mat driving range. The practice green is a bit small, but in great shape. The course has five sets of tee boxes. We played the gold and those were mostly in good shape and flat. The fairways were nice with some wet spots from watering. The rough was hit and miss. Most of the rough was decent. but there were many areas with mud and bare spots. If you stray from the fairway you'll also find Rocks and hard pan. The greens were in great shape. Not the biggest and not the smallest, just right. The bunkers need a fresh truckload of sand, and some had standing water. The course itself winds up and down through the hills and provides great views. There are houses on many of the holes and signs that clearly state your liability should you hit them. All in all there there are some great holes including a picturesque 16th. From the tee box you look severely down hill and can see three greens (see photo). While the course was very enjoyable and in pretty good shape, there’s no course map on the scorecard. The sprinkler heads are marked to the middle of the green, and some of the barber poles are directional as opposed to 150yds. If you’re not familiar with the course, you might consider spending the $7 for a yardage guide.

This course is a lot of fun and for $25, you can't beat the value. I'll play it again.

A capturing layout with lots of challenge from any of the tees, it presents well with targeted maintenance tee to green. Played Monday 7 June 12:56 tee time following many 4 balls, round length right on 4.5 hours. Warm and dry conditions with a moderate wind blowing. Check in easy and polite, bar/grill convenient and good variety, modest practice green with large enough range with grass and mats. The tees are in good shape but dry and hard. Fairways dry and running with thin to lush rye mown to 1/2 inch; rough in nice shape and around 2 inches dry rye grass. Miss the fairway and you are in every kind of trouble with rocks, gravel, grasses etc. Most bent grass greens were good; soft at times or firm but rolling well but, 6 greens have just been sanded and are very bumpy and slow. Most bunkers in good shape but some need refreshing with sand and a few displayed bunker liners. Overall very enjoyable playing here. Did not see a drinks cart today, lots of water stations and rest room availability. Golfnow "email hot deal' $21 riding.

Greens were great - rolled true. Wind of at least 30 mph made it very tough. Well worth the $$.

Excellent course, plays within/between very nice community, upscale homes. Green fees at $25 with cart M-F are the best around, make the 65 mile trip worth it alone. Very picturesque, plays up and down foothills on the outskirts of Brentwood. The par 3 7th hole plays downhill 150 yds, but looks like 175 as you stand on tee box looking over bluff to hole...soft 7 iron or firm 8 puts you in middle of undulating green that funnels to the middle. All the greens have a lot of undulation to them so you really have to watch where you hit to on greens so ball will release to holes. Course really takes advantage of natural rock formations around fairway bunkers, especially the uphill holes 1, 6 and 12. On the downhill holes, you can really play the slope of the hill to get ball to run out, add extra yards to tee shots. Great course, well designed and can't beat the price, this is the 2nd time in 2 weeks I have played here and plan on playing aout once a month fom now on. Has a sister course called Deer Ridge across the street and we are going to play there next week.
