Walked this morning--- mid-morning 11/12/2019 with my buddy Matt on a perfect day for golf with no wind and temps in the mid 80's. POP was just a shade under 4 hours not waiting on one shot with nobody in front or behind us.

As previous reviews have stated Soule Park is in really nice shape especially for mid November.

Greens were soft and receptive on approach shots yet putted medium to quick for pace and all balls held there line beautifully. Rated 8/10

It looks to me like the tees have been resodded and leveled some and they were in great shape. Lush, green level and clean. Rated 8/10.

Fairways were mostly lush with very few problem areas. Great lies 7.5 bordering 8/10.

Was only in one bunker on #16 greenside that was in perfect shape, beach like sand that was raked to perfection.

Rough was mainly cut down to uniform nice length, mostly lush. 7/10

Highly recommended.
Walked the Blues Monday morning 11/4/2019 joined by Kyle on a beautiful day with light winds and a POP of 3 hours 20 minutes. Had a super time with Kyle who was a bomber. Fun time with a lot of birdies

Fairways here are super dry and get a ton of roll. We both had driver 9 iron in on the par 5 4th hole? Both reached number 9 in two shots and had driver 9 iron into #18. Fairways were that dry, thin and for sure made the course play shorter than the actual 6900 yd scorecard. Had to really compress irons precisely. Fairway rating 5/10

Greens looked like they were just coming off maintenance with some sand and bumps especially on the first 4-5 holes or so. It pains me to rate the greens here a 6/10 as I am used to a 8.5/10 range on this course.

Tees were mostly level, semi-dry but they were level so that's mostly all that matters. 6/10

Was in 2 greenside bunkers and 1 fairway bunker that contained more packed like firmer sand but still had enough sand to splash out of easily. Rated 6.5/10.

Rough and chipping areas were drier, thin and wispy but not to long. Rated 6/10.

I love the bones here and the layout. The staff is very friendly and nice. As the round progressed the greens got better. The course is really not in that great of shape but if they can get the greens close to what they used to be the course layout is so worth it.
Had the entire day to play today so decided to cruise up to RSM for 36 holes today with my buddy RGM2525. Based on the wind conditions in Moorpark and surrounding valley areas RSM was a good call in that regard. I played earlier here in the Spring and always enjoy the peace and quiet vibe and layout at RSM.

We teed off at 8:25am for our first round riding the black tees. Our POP passing one group was 3 hours for our first nine. Our second 18 holes we also came in around 3 hours passing 2 more groups.

RSM has a huge range with titleist range balls and a very nice chipping/sand practice area and huge putting green that like the greens on the course were in great shape.

The greens here are in beautiful shape rolling pure with little to no ballmarks. Quick putting wise yet holding irons with spin like darts. Many big undulating greens here that were a pleasure to putt on and play. Rated 8/10.

Fairways were firmer this time of year vs in the spring. Would say 25% lush, 75% brown and firm. Tons of roll if you have a low trajectory ball with your driver. Rated 6.5/10. Thought the fairways were tight but still playable.

Was only in two greenside bunkers for 36 holes on Number #2 and number #18 which contained just enough sand. My playing partner found his fair share which were firmer and maybe needed some more sand.

Tees are unlevel like last reviewer stated. You could always usually find a level stance after hunting but most boxes need to be leveled some. Thought the tee boxes though were lush and looked good as far as lushness was concerned. Tee rating 6.5/10

The poorest part of the course was some of the chipping areas around the green. Many were hardpan, muddy, thin or sometimes bare depending on where you landed. Rated 5/10.

Staff was great, great challenging layout from the back tees and the greens were great.

I also must add that I can see many players falling into the category of not wanting to play the black tees at almost 7000 yds and not wanting to play the whites at 6278 yds. A blue tee box(6500-6800) option is very needed out here.

Would highly reccomend this layout and conditioning of the greens which are great. Had a great time. Thanks RSM!
Walked 10/15/2019 with my buddy Matt teeing off around 10:30am finishing around 1:45pm for POP 3 hrs 15 minutes. Got to speak to the GM before the round to compliment him on how nice the course has been looking. I have been playing here almost 30 years and have never seen the course this nice this late in the season. Weather was perfect mid 80's with a slight breeze.

Greens were super receptive, soft and rolling medium pace. Hardly any ballmarks and in great shape. Gil Hanse design greens were there are I believe 7 different hole locations on the pin sheets. Rated 8/10

Fairways are incredible for mid October. Mostly all green lush areas, ball sitting up beautifully. They have some nice strategic fairway bunkers that come to mind. #12 right in the middle of the fairway is my friend as I flied it right into the face of the bunker. So impressed with the fairways. 8/10 bordering on a 8.5/10

Tees are mostly lush and I believe more level than before possibly? Rated 7.5/10

Was not in any greenside bunkers and just one fairway bunker that was in perfect shape and easy to get out of. Rated 8/10

Rough is mostly lush and uniform and in decent shape. Course has done an amazing job for those shots that don't find the fairway--they have cleaned some areas up in and around the rough. Rated 7.5/10.

I just love both Ojai Valley Inn and Soule Park--the way these 2 courses are looking and the peaceful vibe of Ojai I wish Ojai had a couple more courses to boast this great laid back city.

Had a 18 hole playing lesson this morning with a student. 3rd out in perfect weather after the early morning chill. POP 3 hr 50 riding.

The greens today reminded me some of when this course first opened. Fast, firm yet holding higher compressed irons with spin. Hard to believe that they verticut and sanded 5 days ago. These greens were awesome! Rating them a 8/10. I can see these greens getting into the 9 /10 range soon.

Fairways are still visibly green with decent coverage. They are becoming firmer as the colder weather approaches--just like this course is supposed to play--links style. Fairway rating 7/10

Tees were nice and level with good coverage. 7.5/10

Today we were able to throw some extra balls in some of the bunkers. Most of the bunkers were firm like they usually are here. Some of the bunkers were wet like they had the sprinklers on or near some of the traps before the course opened.

Greenside rough is still beautiful with the fairway rough being more unpredictable.

I saw a lot of maintenance workers this morning which I always like to see working on the course.

If you love great challenging green complexes give Rustic a try. For sure the maintenance yellow alert can be removed.

Highly would recommend this course. My student who is also a men's club member loves playing out here.
Had a great time this morning 9/30/2019 joining a three ball(they were all friends) who were riding and I joined them walking the blue tees under perfect blue skies with low 70 temps and hardly any wind. Chamber of commerce day. Our POP was 4 hours.

Greens were in great shape. Firming up some since my last round here. The greens are a perfect combination of being receptive on irons with spin or height yet rolling firm and true. Super impressed with them. I fixed a couple extra ball marks here and there while waiting for the group ahead of us. Rated 8/10

Fairways are in nice shape. Good lies, semi-lush lies. Good padding. 7.5/10

Tees were level, good shape, par 3 tees had some divots that were nicely filled in with some sand mix. 7.5/10

Greenside rough is lush, cut uniform and in beautiful shape. 8.5/10

Rough just outside the fairways can be inconsistent and dry, poor in spots, good in spots.

Was in greenside bunker on 3 that was in nice shape and a little on the wet side but easy to splash out of.

Love my home course. Great conditions right now in the fairways, greens, greenside rough and tee departments. Great layout and prices. Catch it on a windless day for even more enjoyment. Highly recommended.
Rode on 9/23/2019 with RGM2525. After not playing for 3 weeks thought I would be rusty but ended up with a 69.(Maybe need to play less?) 26 putts and perfect playing conditions other than a slight wind had lot's to do with that. Our POP was 3 hours 30 minutes doing some waiting for some groups ahead.

Greens were in nice shape, soft and receptive as usual. Rolling medium speed. Had number 3 pin placement that afternoon so some pins were tucked and challenging. 7.5/10

Fairways are just flat out awesome for late Sept. Semi lush to lush in almost all portions. Green and great lies. 8 to 8.5/10

Tees lush, level and in good shape. 8.5/10

Rough cut uniform, nice green shape, semi-penal. Outside of the cart paths its lost ball city. 8/10

Was not in any bunkers but they looked to be there perfect raked self with mostly white marble like sand.

Fringes mowed and in great shape.

Fun layout, very good golf conditions. Great staff and weather and very nicely priced. I can see why this course is so popular and becoming even more popular. Go play. Recommended.
Rode the Blacks this afternoon 8/30/2019 at 1:15pm with my buddy RGM2525. POP was 4 hours 35 minutes behind a packed pre-holiday course. Weather was beautiful in the low 70's but we were met by a nice stiff 15mph-20mph at times ocean breeze.

Great staff inside the pro-shop with an awesome practice area.

Never had a bad lie in the fairways. Fairways still green in most spots with a tad of dry grass here and there but still some nice padding throughout. 7.5/10

Greens were in nice shape. Soft and super receptive. Irons dug in and got some backspin today except for the 11th green which reacted a little firmer. Basically true rolls on most all putts. Greens can be slower here on occasion but thought they both looked and putted great. 7.5/10

Tees are always immaculate here and no different today. Level teeing grounds that were mostly lush. They leveled and re sodded the back tee on 8 which looks awesome as well as re sodding #17.

Rough is in good shape. Green and lush. Luckily as a group we did not have one ball off the tee in the native area today. Native areas have really grown up outside of the cartpaths and are a punch out or lost ball if in them. Rough rating 8/10

I was in fairway bunker on 7 and greenside bunkers on 17 and 18 that contained nice quality sand that does not appear to be thick on the surface but contains nice quality thick sand underneath.

Love Olivas. They have challenges from the black tees on 6, 12, 13 and 16 and some scoring holes like 1,4,9,14, 15 and 18. Love the layout, temps, staff and pricing. Conditions are always above average here. Recommended.
Got to sneak out to get a quick round in at Camarillo Springs Monday morning 8/26/19 with my buddy Matt. We teed off just before 10:00am riding coming in with a POP of just over 3 hours catching a single and playing the last 3 holes with him waiting behind the last part of the men's club. Weather was nice all day with some wind on the back nine. We had a great time!

Last time out here was over a year ago. We decided to give it a local try as we were pressed for time and was told it was wide open which it was before catching the end of the men's club.

The fairways were very dry and the last reviewer described them well. You could be in lush grass, dry patchy stuff or hardpan all within a 5 foot radius. Most sections of the fairways need more watering and for sure saw different sections of grass growing. You get some roll currently out here and there are big drives to be had if you are a lower trajectory player off the tee. 5/10

The fairway rough is very dry, mostly mowed down and patchy would be a good word. Greenside rough and fringes are the exact opposite. Very thick, lush Kikuyu grass that will grab chips and stop them on a dime. No bump and run shots around these greens. 5/10

Teeing grounds were semi-lush, most blue tees are un-level but we could always find a level spot after some hunting. Weird thing they have going on here is only a few of the holes had black stones out and than the other half there were no black stones. If you have an official handicap and started out playing black you could get frustrated having to play two separate tee colors as the round progresses.

Not in any bunkers but my buddy stated that they were decent with a crusty layer on top and just enough sand to splash out of underneath.

Lets get to the greens--for sure the best part of the course. They held shots very nicely, were soft and rolled fairly true with minimal bounce. Rated 7/10. Looks like they had hole 12 green being worked on and had the "practice hole" next to the driving range fence working as hole 12 this day.

I normally would not say this due to the dry conditions but I would recommend this course based on a couple things. Super friendly staff in the pro-shop with decent prices and most importantly this is a really great and fun layout. The holes on the other side of the road are super fun and they have a couple great longer par 3's, a fun par 5 and 2 great par 4's. I have always enjoyed the layout. If you can land a deal I would recommend Camarillo Springs. Just know currently you are here for the layout and the greens and not so much the drier conditions in the fairways and just off the fairways. Hopefully they can put some more water on these areas.
Had time to play the Lakes course at 12 noon today 8/19/2019 with my buddy and fellow teaching pro Brian, my buddy Mack and his buddy Ricki. I have been reading a lot about RR the last couple months so decided to head out to the Lakes Course to give it a whirl as its one of my favorite layouts. Our POP was 4 hours riding taking our time. It was an odd scene--we did not see 1 group on the entire golf course in front or behind us! Don't know if I have seen that ever. Weather was 10-12mph breeze, partly cloudy beautiful low 70's weather. I got to meet the new GM at RiverRidge through American golf and she was very pleasant along with the normal pro shop staff. This was is spite of their computer system being down which I am sure was stressful this morning. Very good customer service in the pro-shop.

I always loved coming out here and testing myself from the black tees at almost 7200 yds. I am sad to say for you bombers that they have taken the black tee boxes away from the layout. We played the tips which are now the blue tees and they had many of the blue tee box markers back where some of the black tees are. Most of the old black tee boxes they are letting go like #4 coming to mind. The blues are still a nice challenge at almost 6900 yds. The tee boxes are mostly all level and semi lush. Decent to good shape with just some minor divot damage on the par 3's.

The fairways were half green, half brown but I feel all had nice cushion and enough grass where I never had a hard pan lie.

Rough was generally mowed down and a little bit lusher and green than the fairways and in nice shape.

Was in greenside bunker on 13 and 14 that contained raked, firmer wet sand that had enough sand to easily splash out of.

The greens looked to be a little more bumpy to start the round but then there were greens like 11 that were just pure and beautiful. I don't think the greens were that bad as some have described. They were playable and held shots nicely. Pretty decent rolls. You could always count on RR to have almost professional or PGA quality rolls in the past. I am a stickler for greens and I thought these rolled nicely and I would play them anytime. Not as nice as the last time I played here but still nice.

I would recommend the course right now to anyone. As long they continue to put some water on the fairways and keep the greens at least to the standard I saw today I think this course will continue to thrive. Love the challenging layout, cooler weather and good prices.
Rode the Blacks this morning 8/12/2019 teeing off around 9:30am with a super cool couple Steve and Margaret. Pace of play was 4 hours with a little waiting behind what looked like a pretty full tee sheet ahead of us. Weather was beautiful in the morning and heating up on the back nine--ball was just flying forever in the hot sun today.

Greens were in really nice shape. They sanded and punched the last 5 greens on the course(14-18). Greens 1-13 rolled beautiful and held shots nicely. Last 5 greens played good even with the sand and minor punches.

Fairways are still in good shape even with the recent hot weather. Most lies are lush with your ball sitting up. Saw several sprinklers on today so I know the course continues to water to make things lush through these hotter months.

Was only in one greenside bunker that contained raked, firmer sand that was still easy to get out of.

Tees very nice and level and not much divot damage on the back tees at Rustic.

Greenside rough is perfect, lush and beautiful. Farther you strayed away from the fairways rough can be spotty.

Just a fantastic course with great green complexes, good conditions in the fairways, tees, greenside rough. A must play and a nice challenge.
Rode the blacks this morning 8/5/2019 teeing off at 6:30am and finishing in 3 hours catching a couple super early morning groups on the back nine. Played 2-3 balls during a beautiful morning.

Course is in great shape, no real changes since my last round out here.

Greens rolling beautiful, slower with morning dew speeding up nicely as the sun came out. Holding irons and wedges with spin. 8/10

Fairways lush, green and ball sitting up nicely. They stock all the carts with plenty of seed mix for those that compress the ball. 8/10

Tees in nice shape--maintenance out rotating the markers this morning. All tees look level and lush. Speaking of tees really enjoy the blacks on 5, 13 and especially 14 where I hit a bomb over right side of the trees and still had 175 in(great par 4). 8.5/10

Dropped several balls in some bunkers for practice as I waited some on the back nine and they played firmer on top with just enough sand underneath.

Greenside rough is close to a 9/10 rating and rough lining the fairways is a mixed bag of lushness, some dry rough and even a couple of real dry spots.

Highly recommend Rustic right now with how nice the greens, fairways, tees and greenside rough is.
