played on 1-28-09. the wind was INSANE. the flagsticks were at a 45 degree angle all day long. the holes were banged up due to this. as a links course, this stacks up. you think it's simple, but you'd be wrong. if you have never played links golf, you gotta get to summerly. my advice would be to buy a yardage book from the clubhouse...six bucks will save you atlest six shots.
the course was in pretty fair conditions. it's hard to be critical this time of year. southern california courses get played year round, and the fall is the only time these places have to do their major maintenance. the fairways were in decent condition...there were quite a few spots where it was evident they laid down a few spots of fresh sod. the bunkers were nice, a littel packed down but nice. the greens were in bad shape. the had older punch holes, and there were ball marks all over the place. nothing more frustrating than fresh ball marks...that's just evidence of ignorance.
at the end of the day, i'd recomend summerly whole heartedly. play it!

i played during aeration...i didn't check greenskeeper first! course played well, but the pace of play was slow. i played on saturday morning, and got the first tee time right behind the mens club. we were a foursome, and they were a threesome. we were on their tail all day long. the one guy, who had a new set of r9 woods for some reason, couldn't get his driver 100 yards. he was just plain awful. after about 5 holes, i asked if we could play through. they actually denied us. for three guys who can't golf, and were playing from the tips where there were no tee markers, they were pretty rude. they told me the men's club "belonged" at the course, so i didn't need to play through. course-good, men's club-bad.

if you like severly sloping greens, and blind tee shots, this one is for you. the course is in poor condition, eevn though the greens are nicely kept. the pace of play is decent. i understand that mostly regulars play there, so i'm sure they have their niche they are comfortable in with pace of play and such. this course is nice, just a little rough around the edges...

they are getting this course tournament ready, so now would be a good time to play. they are re-doing a few tee boxes, and they look like they are going to be great. new carts are nice as well. it looks like they are investing a little bit into this course, which is nice. all things being equal, i had a 7:20am tee time, and people were showing up for a 9am tee time and getting on ahead of us. i consider that a little irresponsible of the course management to let this happen. subsequently, we didn't get on until about 7:45. the layout is still...rough. i would hope to see a few drastic changes to make this a truly champion course that everyone in the area could be proud of. greens were well kept. bunkers were well manicured and free of tough sand or debris. the course is still being slightly overwatered, probably to get it green and ready for this upcoming tournament...but walking on a green and having casual water apear underfoot is overwatering in my book.

not a bad course...a lot of elevation changes. a few holes do that strong dogleg early thing, where you hit a five iron to the turn, and then have a fairway wood and wedge to get on...that's a little annoying. the greens are chewed up, too. the course gets a good amount of play, but the pace is fine. not a bad course for the price.

i was there a few months back...and what a mess. the first few holes were great, and then it just got gradually worse all day long. there are a ton of improvements that need to be made, and even simple grounds keeping things. i saw a change of ownership sign in the window indicating it had been sold, so i hope the new ownership is intent of improving the course. i wasn't crazy about some of the holes, but overall it was a nice layout. when the conditions are horrible, it can make for an unpleasant day. the greens were nice, and i wasn't in the sand at all, so i can't comment there.

as i've stated plenty of times before, i have a severe distaste for "mountain" courses. for those of you unfamiliar with the term, it's basically one of those courses that is cleared land with some greens plopped down...no thought, no moving of land to make a fairway work, just stuck in where it fits in. maybe that was a cause of my extremely poor round, or maybe it's just that these courses don't suit my eye well. either way, i had an absolute blow up round here...the worst i've ever posted. if you get into ANY trouble out there, you are in jail. there is no safe play from the rough, which is usually just gnarly trees that hang really low. if you need some work on the sand game, this would be a place to drop a few balls and get crackin'. this facility is heavily played, and true to american golf company standards, looks fit and trim. the driving range is a joke, as it's concrete and the balls are horrid. the old addage of "the greens break toward the water" doesn't work here, because it's ON A PENINSULA! there is water all around you! a few stellar views, but not an enjoyable day for me...and from what i can gather, the pace i had of 5:15 was quick. yikes.

actually a decent track. some holes are set-up badly, but this one is a nice little course. they have a really cool eighteen hole putting green, so that makes it fun to work on the short game. the course is maintained nicely. the area around it is a little rough. the holes are usually wide open so you can bomb it...just be careful; if you go off the fairway, you're likely at the bottom of some huge gorge or in the dry river bed, both out of bounds.

i'm not crazy about mountain style courses, but this one isn't bad. the course is beautifully maintained, and the greens run well. i absolutely hate blind tee shots, and there are a few here. the course is tight, so don't expect to slam it without paying the price. overall, it's a nicely set-up course that is nicely maintained. i played here after getting a voucher for $30. if i liked mountain style courses, i would have gladly paid their normal green fees.

bad bad bad...it smells like duck feces, and is played by all the drunken stoners in town. i've been hit into every time i've played, even being hit once. when i said something to the guys at the pro shop, i got a blank look. it's a poor excuse for a municipal course...it only exists to turn a buck for the city. if you are the golfer who goes out to get high and drunk and smell duck poo, this one's for you.
as much as the course gets played, it's in fairly good shape...nothing great, though. just an overcrowded spot full of people who aren't really there to golf.

as my "home" course, i've played it plenty of times. i'm not crazy about mountain style courses, and this only serves to remind me why. this is by far the worst course i've played for the price. the green fees aren't high, but in my opinion too high for what you get at this course. they have made some recent changes to the course conditions, what i'm sure they consider improving it, but they fall short. they water early in the morning, so the course only gets humid during play. there is no thinking on this course, it's fairway or f*#%ed. some holes are obnoxiously set-up, and by that i mean they are unnecessarily "difficult". they could turn a few par fours into par threes and improve the course set-up immensely. don't expect to be amazed...
