Played Torrey South on 5/29. I did not have a tee time and just walked up as a single and the course was fairly empty, so I was able to get on the tee box almost immediately. POP was 4 hours. $61 rack rate for SD Resident on a Weekday is unbeatable for this course. The course was in great condition. I always enjoy walking this side because of all the great views you get to the West.

Tees: They were good. No bare spots.
Fairways: Fairways were lush and I didn't see any bare spots. Still was able to get tons of roll out even with the fairways being lush.
Rough: Around 4".
Greens: They were soft for the most part. The North greens seemed firmer just a few days before that.
Sand Traps: For the most part, they were good. A few of them looked like they had just been watered.

The cart girl came around about 8 times I would say. Customer service is always great here.

Played Torrey North on Memorial Day 5/27. Course was an excellent condition. POP was around 4 hours 40 minutes.

Tee Boxes: They were nice and green. No bare spots.
Fairways: They were very lush
Rough: Was about 3-4 inches long I would estimate.
Greens: They were firm but fair. They rolled true.
Sand Traps: Watered down but fortunately I only found 1 all day.

Course was definitely in great condition in my opinion.

Played 5/11 with fellow GK'er baomai. We ended up playing Stone/Creek. This was our first time playing this course as it is a JC Golf course and neither one of us are members of JC Golf. We were able to snag a deal on underpar for $59 so it was definitely worth checking out this course for that price.

I'd like to start out by stating that our first impression of the course got off on the wrong foot. The Starter was very rude and not professional. His greeting to us when we gave him our receipts was anything but professional. Then as we proceeded to the driving range to hit some balls, we noticed that there were pyramids stacked up. We both grabbed some clubs and went to warm up. He came over and told us that we weren't allowed to hit on these and told us to go over 'there' to hit balls. We drove the cart to 'there' only to realize that the driving range had ended and we were on Creek #1.

Now to the course review:

Tees: The tee boxes were very nice. I'd say all but 1 or 2 of the tee boxes were great. The 2 I noticed that I didn't like were uneven but nothing crazy.

Fairways: The fairways were in excellent condition.
Rough: I thought the rough was good. It was about 3" thick.

Greens: The greens were firm but rolled smooth. Definitely require you to hit your irons spot on in order to get the balls to check up on the greens.

Sand Traps: I read rudyclub's review about not finding any traps and let me be the first to tell you that you were very lucky to not find any. The sand traps were awful. I'm being harsher than I probably should but since the rest of the course was in great shape, I was severely disappointed in the sand traps. They were rock hard and unplayable.

Course Layout: I thought the course layout on Stone side was great. I definitely was penalized on a few shots for not having the course knowledge to play this 9. The opening hole is a par 5 with a severe dog leg left into the wind. I would say this is one of the hardest opening holes I've ever played. The Creek side was a little bland after coming from Stone. Most of the holes were straight away. The 9th was a good hole on Creek because it did have a good amount of water on it.

Overall, since it's JC Golf, I probably won't play it again. The prices for JC Golf are a little extreme (i.e. Encinitas Ranch and RB inn). With courses like CrossCreek, RedHawk and Journey in the same vicinity and at better rack rate, it's tough to predict that I would play the course again.

I decided last minute to go play today (3/30/13). Found a great deal for Golf Club of California for $40 on Golfhub and couldn't pass it up. This is one of my favorite courses in Southern California for these reasons.

Driving Range: Grass instead of mats. Balls stacked like pyramids. Comes with the paid round.
Tee Boxes: Lush with no bare spots
Fairways: Very lush
Rough: Thick and no bare spots
Greens: They were a little slow but they were consistent and that is all that matters
Sand Traps: Fortunately only found 1 all day but it was nice and fluffy
Staff: Probably the friendliest staff of any golf course. They treat you as if you are a member of the country club.

The course layout is great except for it ending on a Par 3 (personal thing).

Let me start by saying that Eagle Crest is one of my favorite courses in San Diego. With that said, I was a little disappointed with the course when I played on 3/22/13. Here are my thoughts:
Tee Boxes: Not too impressed. There wasn't much grass on most of them.
Fairways: Very thin. There were a few dirt spots on fairways
Rough: Was ok. Some areas were very nice and others there was just dirt spots and no grass.
Sand Traps: Very very poor. Some sand traps were like cat litter and others were like mud. It was very difficult to hit even a decent sand shot yesterday.
Greens: The greens were pretty good. They were firm but the ball would check up fairly well. They rolled true. My only knock on the greens were the pin placements. Some were put on severe slopes and it was impossible to get the ball close for a 2 putt.

Overall, I still like this course. The green fees are always great. We paid $35 which is sitll worth it even though my review probably seems very critical.

I thought the conditions were great as the fairways and greens were very nice. I played with fellow GK'er 'baomai' and both of us were very pleased with the conditions as well as the price we paid. We got an online deal for $46 on 3/17/13 (St. Patty's Day). My only gripe for the course is that we saw several five-somes ahead of us and this can't happen on a Saturday or Sunday (or any other day for that matter).
