Play this course 20 times a year since 1998 born and raised in PV. The new management has completely destroyed the course its like Victoria now very very sad. I'm now making the drive to the LB courses. I know its my first post but wanted to let people know its a dirt track but greens still good..

Played Tuesday, 9/2, the first group after the Ladies Club. Teed off right on time at 10:40 am and nice place of play on the front nine, making the turn in 1:55. Back nine not so much, ending up playing in 4:35. No cart service. The cafe was doing a good business.

The course is in poor shape right now. Huge areas of fairways that are not getting water. Big roll on drives was the only thing good about it. The rough is pretty non-existent and not a good hitting surface. It also allows balls to roll off the slanted fairways and into the dirt areas under trees. Around the greens and the greens themselves are good. Tee boxes were fine. Sand was okay. Overall, not great.

Nice weather and great views but the course is definitely not ready for a close-up.

Played a tournament on Saturday 8/16 11:58 tee time, still a little cool, got warmer later. Typical tournament POP, slow. Had not played here in close to 10 years, conditions were bad, fairways were a combination of dormant grass, bald spots, and some green. Bunkers had good sand, but most greenside bunkers had high lips, The greens were on the lush side with a few pitch marks, were running quick. Its only saving grace is the beautiful scenery, there was same haze but, on several holes, you could see Catalina Island. I would rate it a 4

Early Friday morning round in the fog at Los Verdes and it was actually nice to get some respite from the hot mid-summer temperatures. My buddy and I had a 7:15am spot and were joined by a very pleasant and fun aunt and nephew pairing. We rode and played the white tees this time around.

The course will always remain a local gem and if you catch it at the right time, in the right conditions, with the right POP, it's going to always be one of the best values around. We got most of it right on this day but the course conditions are definitely showing some of that late summer wear and tear. A few too many thin, burnt-out areas, large clumps of elephant grass in between earth, and quite a few roots out of the ground forcing uncomfortable decisions. It's not ideal and even the marshal commented about it when he rode by at the 13 hole.

Most of the other conditions were pretty good though ... not too many complaints. The tee boxes weren't great but not awful either, although one or two were a bit askew. The bunkers had just enough sand to be playable and functional, not enough to be enjoyable. The rough was playable and cut to a fine length if you missed the fairway (or any of the many mulch areas between holes). The best part? As usual - the greens. They're really good, deceptively fast and the pin positions today were at their tournament, devilish best (or worst?). Really challenging and difficult to dial in all day.

Carts are very rudimentary and surprisingly still don't have any GPS on them at all. We had cart service finally at the 15th hole so that was nice and actually quite uncommon. The best part of all? We finished in four hours and seven minutes. Let me repeat. Four hours and seven minutes. At Los Verdes. On a Friday morning. Just wanted to make sure you got that right. Fantastic and so much more enjoyable. Quite the day.

Played a rare afternoon round, starting after 1:30 pm on Tuesday, walking the whites with my grandson and a twosome. I probably should have checked the weather report, it was pouring rain as we were going up the 9th hole and many golfers were sheltering at the clubhouse when we passed through. We heard thunder starting on the 10th hole and we ended up walking off after the 13th hole when we saw a relatively close lightening bolt. Played the front nine in about 2:15; my group was a shot behind so it could have been a little faster.

The greens are a mixed bag right now. The are running medium at best and a few have a fungus problem with #2 looking the worst. They were a challenge because they were not breaking as much as usual and some downhill putts were left short, not usually a problem here! The rest of the course is okay. It definitely could use the rain as it is generally dry. I had some lousy lies off the fairway even considering the rough is cut down. I had a few bare lies in the fairway also.

I have seen the course better but it is still the best deal in town, especially with a Senior Card.

Enjoyed the speed of the greens and having local knowledge really helps when they are like this. Always great to get back here and play given the distance these days for me and freeway traffic. Do miss Bob and his crew from years ago, as well as all the former guys like Gary, Mike and Mike behind the counter. But the coffee shop is a great improvement from years past. Still a great value with Sr county card and one of the best county courses around.

Played Thursday, 5/15, in midmorning. Good service from the course, starter at the first tee keeping groups moving, marshals around the course, coffee shop open and doing a decent business. Started about 10 minutes after our tee time and played in around 4.5 hours, not bad for this course at that time of day.

The course is dry, looking more pronounced on the back nine. Fairways and greens were good but the rough is not gettin much water. On #15, the dry areas extended into the fairway. I was left of the fairway and got great distance because there was nothing to stop the ball. On #16, I punched out of the trees and was lucky I rolled into the fairway bunker about 115 yards out, or I would have rolled down the drop off to the fence. The fairway was running much faster than I expected. The greens were excellent with decent speed.

Picture perfect day although the Santa Ana winds had the marine layer blocking views of Catalina Island. Recommended.

Played here twice this week, Sunday in a Men's Club tourney and Thursday when I got on as a single, walking both times. Played with three nice older gentlemen in the latter round, two walking and one riding. Pace of play was 4:30 teeing off at 10:30. Much better than I expected. No cart service on Thursday. Otherwise, great service as usual. $33 and change to walk on Thursday with a LA County Senior card.

Both rounds, the pins were placed in unusually difficult positions in my experience. very close to the edges most of the time and on slopes. I heard they were set up in difficult spots for the team play match on Wednesday so maybe they left them there the following day. Made for tough putting days considering the greens are firm and running fast. They are rolling great though. The coverage in the fairways is good although it looked drier on Thursday than last weekend. The sand in the bunkers is very playable. The rough is cut down which makes the course play shorter and allows balls to roll into trouble more often.

Did I mention both days were gorgeous especially Thursday? Just beautiful out there. I'll be back.

Invited to join the 2nd group out today last week and I gladly accepted. Little did I know that we would have 10 to 15 MPH (maybe 20 MPH gusts) winds that would bring the temp down into the high 30's. And we even played in 4 hours. In all the years I have played here I never experienced winds like this. When the sun came up and began warming things up, they died down some but not near enough sad to say. A shame we had such winds as the course is in great shape. But playing down wind was a joy I will say. First time I ever drove the 11th hole thats how strong they were. But the conditions were superb. Great tee boxes. Fairways with coverage and tremendous roll, even into the wind if you could keep it low enough. Traps were immaculate. Greens were firm and would hold high shots but nothing else. They putted as fast (I think 12) as I have ever seen them. Very little rough to deal with at all. Customer service was very good both in the shop and the starter. Hope I get another invite later in the spring and with the same conditions. %39.50 with cart with Sr county card is a great deal for this course.
