Played on Friday, 3/17, with a 9:10 tee time. If you love college basketball and have never been to Vegas for March Madness,you are missing out. When I worked in the sports books, this weekend was bigger than Super Bowl. The whole town is packed, including the golf courses. AP was packed, but I was able to make a tee time online Sunday night.

Checked in at the starter and paired up with a father/son duo from New Jersey before being sent to the 1st tee, which had 2 groups waiting. Finally teed off around 9:20ish and finished in almost exactly 4 1/2 hours, which was expected. When we paid in the pro shop at 8:20, the group ahead of us had a 8:25 tee time. We waited on almost every hole, but everyone was moving along. I knew it would not be a less than 4 hour round and planned for it. Beautiful Vegas day with temps in the 80s, a slight breeze, and the drink cart around at least 5 times.

Conditions similar to 2 weeks ago. Great fairways, they're starting to grow out the rough, and decent desert sand (both bunkers were kind of heavy). The only change was a slight top dressing of sand on the greens. Only noticeable when you marked your ball and the greens still rolled pretty smooth with a medium fast speed.

I will not complain about paying $43 with the OB card, but I don't know what the "rack" rate was today.

Played on Friday, 3/3, 1st part of a 36 hole day at Angel Park using my free birthday round as a OB Sports card holder. Up and down with service today, bags were picked up as we got out of the car, quick check in, and then off to the cart area. Guy only strapped one bag on, which was weird, luckily I saw it before we took off. Checked in with the starter hoping to get out a bit early and he put us out 1st ahead of a 3some who had the 1st time but hadn't checked in yet. He also handled them when they pulled up to see us teeing off. We pulled away from them quickly, waited for a single who stalked us up 10 and joined up with him and finished in just over 3 hours.

Conditions were pretty good across the board. We found a few shaggy tee boxes but we may have been ahead of maintenance. Fairways were in good shape with no brown areas. Rough was still at a minimum, but a little bit longer than last time. Bunkers were good, fluffy, but seemed to have little pebbles in them. Greens were terrific and terrifying. Firm and fast, anything above the hole had a chance of rolling off.

All together, I can't complain about free, but it's worth the $42 rate for that time.

Played on Friday, 2/3 with a 8:30 tee time for $49. Made the reservation last week through their phone app and found times on Mountain pretty scarce. Super Bowl weekend in Vegas usually means packed courses on Friday and Saturday. Parking lot was packed but no signs of golfers anywhere else. Starter put us out a group early, joined by a local single, and we played in 3 1/2 hours. Great pace by a 4some in front of us and the 2 behind us barely waited.

Even though today was close to 70*, the course was showing signs of the past 2 weeks of freezing temps. Fairways were cut pretty short and there was areas of brown/thin areas on almost every hole. Still very playable though. Rough was almost non-existent, just long enough to define fairway from rough. Bunkers were in good condition, semi-fluffy sand in the 1 I was in. Greens were in great shape. They appeared "splotchy" but rolled true at an almost fast pace.

Another beautiful day at the home course. Wished I would of wore shorts. Course was in pretty condition considering the weather the last couple weeks.

Played on Thursday, 12/29, with John_T, his dad, and a buddy. We had a 9:22 tee time and found a 20 minute frost delay when we checked in, but was told they were almost all caught up. After some warming up at the matted range, we headed over to the starter, who sent us off #10 at 9:25, so no real delay.

I haven't been on Mountain since early October and found the course is holding up fine to the winter weather. Last week's rain may have helped too.
Some tee boxes, particularly the par 3s, were a little beat up, but all mostly level and no real problem finding a spot to tee it up.

Fairways had great coverage, except for the 3 with water, the geese/coots have taken a toll on those, causing some thin/brown areas. Back 9 fairways get more sun and had more roll to them.

Rough was just enough to cause a little bit of problems, about 2 inches. We were able to avoid all but 2 bunkers, green side on the #4 Par 3 was very fluffy, and the 50 yard long bunker on #7 (which should really be a waste area), was thin and firm.

Greens were nice. Not real firm, rolled smooth and at a medium-fast speed. They were probably just a bit slower than they are in the summer.

Overall, a great time, minus a run-in I had with a guy in the behind group behind us. We finished in 4:20, with very little waiting. Marshall was out and defused the run-in. We paid $34 with the OB Card membership.

On a side note, we played all 12 holes of the Par 3 Cloud 9 course afterwards and had an awesome time. If you ever make it to AP, hit the short course with a group. It was a blast. Some really chewed up tee boxes, and a handful of greens were beat up from taking wedges all day, but still lots of fun. Longest hole today was about 165 yards, with most running 95-125.

Went out mid-morning with John_T on a VERY busy morning at Angel Park. So busy that as I was checking in, a guy came in and asked if he could walk on. He was told it would be about a 3 hour wait on Mountain and after 3pm on Palm. Paid $35 with OB Sports card. Mountain has been reopened for a week after being closed for re-seeding and still Cart Path Only. Overall, conditions were great. The new grass has taken and filled in everywhere (tees, fairways, rough), except for maybe 2 or 3 spots, but never affected play (one of the fairways looked liked a heavy vehicle went through it and left some deep tire channels). Rough looked liked they hadn't cut it at all and the ball just sat down it. Fairways had filled in nicely with little amount of roll. One of the negatives of CPO was the divots in the fairway, lots of people not taking the sand bottle with them and leaving unfilled areas. Bunkers were a mixed bag, green side on #3 was nice and fluffy, the other 2 were both thin and firm. Greens were fabulous, medium/fast speed, but some unrepaired ball marks. Pace was 4 1/2 hours, with lots of 2-3 minute waits. Drink cart was around 3 times, and snack bar at #5/#14 was open. I'm waiting until they are off CPO for the next time, but course should be in great shape.

Played Friday, July 22. Decided to sneak out and play today, checked their app and saw it was pretty wide open after 9:30. I thought I made a tee time but never received the confirmation. Fortunately, the golf shop staff charged me the online rate, $30, and off I went. I played solo in exactly 3 hours, really taking my sweet time, with one guy who was finishing #1 when I arrived at the tee box and no one behind me. Course is in pretty good, almost great shape. Tee boxes were the down side of the ratings today. Some were chewed up, especially the Par 3s. The rough and fairways are starting to get some burned out spots, but not affecting play. The rough was not consistent, varying from 1 to 3 inches. Fairways were more lush than thin. They still haven't marked areas where they repaired with new sod as GUR. All 4 green side bunkers I was in were exactly the same, slight heavy sand and not hard packed. Greens were great. Smooth, medium fast, and I don't recall seeing any brown areas. Customer service as absolute minimum. I only spoke with the golf shop and starter. Lugged my bag in, grabbed a cart, and loaded it. The snack shack at 5/14 was open and there are water coolers every 3 or 4 holes. Only saw the drink cart once and found out she was working both courses by herself. Overall, great course for the price. Mountain is more challenging than Palm.

Played Friday, July 1, with a 6ish tee time. Paid $28 with the OB Sports card. Checked in and was sent out a few minutes early by the starter. Played as a 2, following groups of 2 and 3s, and finish in less than 3 1/2 hours.

Course was in great condition considering the recent record highs and some rain yesterday. Tee boxes were fairly level and the markers had been moved so no divot damage. Fairways were mostly lush, with a few thin, brown areas scattered around. They had 1 area marked GUR on #2, but looked like they should of used it in a few more areas where they had done some sod replacement. Rough was thick and juicy, the longest I've seen it during the summer. I was only in 2 fairway bunkers, no green side, and both were semi-firm. The greens were fantastic. Smooth, receptive, and free of ball marks, looked like they had just been cut and rolled.

Played AP Mountain before 7am the last 2 Fridays. $39 with the OB Sports card. Customer service was fine. Bags picked up in the parking lot, easy check in, friendly starter, and drink cart around at least twice each 9. We almost had the course to ourselves both rounds, finishing under 3.5 hours both times, with no one in front. Conditions were the same both days, benefiting from the recent rain. Tee boxes level, cut fairway length, but some divot damage on a few holes. Fairways were great, lush and green, except for one area on #12 where they replaced some sod. Bunkers were wet both days, last week from rain, today from watering, so they were packed and heavy. Front left of #15 had a huge pond in it. They have let the rough grow, so it's about 3 inches of thick, gnarly bermuda, with the ball sinking down. Greens (except for #1), were smooth and their usual fast pace. For some reason, they always have problems with the grass on #1. Small chipping area and they've cut down on how much of the big putting green they use. There is a small one next to #1 on Mountain and another by the starter if there's a delay. The driving range is one long continuous mat with padding underneath. It's great for irons and easy on hybrids and woods, but almost useless for hitting driver. It's my home course, always fun, no houses, a couple of water hazards, and a good price.

Back on Mountain for the 1st time in months. We had a 7am tee time, but it didn't matter. No one in front of us and we started 2 holes ahead of the next 2some, finishing in a very leisurely 3:40.

Back on Mountain for the 1st time in months. We had a 7am tee time, but it didn't matter. No one in front of us and we started 2 holes ahead of the next 2some, finishing in a very leisurely 3:40.

Conditions were pretty good. It appeared they had recently hosted a tournament, as the par 3 tee boxes were beaten up and all the fairway divots were grouped in the same area on many holes. Other than that, all the other tee boxes were level and clean. Fairways were pretty green, with some brown areas where the re-seed never grew in. Rough was just barely longer than the fairway, just enough to see a defined fairway. Looked and felt like new sand in the bunkers, not fluffy, but decent to hit from. Greens were in fantastic shape. Smooth, fast, and mostly free of ball marks.

AP has a new artificial tee area for the driving range. It feels like it gives when using irons. Downside is trying to use a tee, just impossible to get to the height you like.

Overall, a great time for $39 using the OB Sports card. This is my home course and I've missed playing it. Can't wait to get back out.
