Played Mon 7/12, 9:20 tee time, 5:15 walking. 10-20 mph wind throughout the day, with it ramping up to 25 on the ocean holes. Greens at an 11. Course in fabulous shape. The rough on this course was higher than the other 2. This is a great track that I would love to play regularly. #14 was a temp green, which was in really good shape, better than most munis.. and my suspicion is they are doing the same as at Pebble... rotate the temps one at a time while they do an irrigation project. Overall, had a great time.

Perfect and slow. Maybe my new favorite course, but took 5:50 to play. Perfect conditions, perfect design, and perfect scenery. This is as complete a golf experience as you can have. A very fair golf course that requires every aspect of your game to be sharp. Just can’t say enough how great this course is.

Played The Glass yesterday with Long4par on a nearly picture perfect day. We Tee’d off on my traditional 9AM tee time allowing the morning fog to clear out for beautiful views of the bay. Wind kicked up in the afternoon on the last few holes which is normal for here but still manageable.

Greens were a perfect 10 rolling nice and fast as expected for this place. Greens at Spyglass look docile, but make no mistake they have some serious bite to them. Breaks are subtle but serious!

Fairways are about as perfect as you could imagine. Completely lush throughout offering perfect lies all while providing decent roll out. Rough is designed to be penal and it is. Only about 3” tall, the rough at Spyglass is like Velcro! Grabs your club and holds on. Frequently requires an extra club.

Bunkers were excellent as well. The tee boxes while being great (rated at a 9) were the “weak” link of the course. They were level with great coverage, but I have actually seen them in better shape.

I will say that the range balls are starting to look pretty beat up. Range balls are TP5/x balls and with Taylormade releasing their new 2021 version this week, I would hope that Pebble Corporation is planning on replacing the range balls soon with the new generation TP5/x models.

The only thing that wasn’t picture perfect was Long4par walking away with the TBC (though I would imagine Jim sees that differently)! I mustered up 4 pars in the last 6 holes but couldn’t get any of the birdie putts to drop. Still it was an absolute pleasure to tee it up with Jim and I look forward to the our next round!

Had the chance to play one of my bucket list courses today thanks to Alex326. We took off for the most fun I have had golfing in a long time at 900. What is there to say but everything was perfect. Weather was awesome, views were amazing and the course is totally fun.

As you would expect conditions were excellent. Everything from tee to green was amazing. I was even able to get the traveling birdie chain with a birdie on #6.

If you get the chance to play I would do it as soon as possible.

Played Wed 1/13, 10:30 tee time, 4:45 hr round. Gorgeous perfect day. Warm day, wind mild most of the day. Short sleeves all day. Walked with a forecaddy. Course is as immaculate as one would expect. I was out here in the summer, so to get out here again is a pleasant, fortunate happening. The first time I played, no caddy, and this time, the caddy was really helpful this time with course management. Though I did let him talk me into going for the green on #14 after one of my best drives of the day, which I proceeded to dunk in the water. As I pulled the club, I told him "Bad Caddy" laughing. Good times. So if it's your first time, have someone who knows the course with you, or splurge of the caddy. The greens are more straightforward than Pebble: what you see is what you get, so for me, the caddy was more useful on club selection/course management. I played better than last time, which helped my enjoyment and offered some redemption. NCGA is offering Spyglass for $250, almost half off through end of the month, with no $800 hotel stay required, as hotel is closed. And course is in prime condition for upcoming pro event. Can't wait to be able to play again.

Like a gambler who doesn’t know when to quit, I went back out to Spyglass Hills in search of that ever-elusive birdie. After getting completely skunked at The Glass in five attempts in 2020, I figured I’d roll the dice early in 2021. Being on a “hot” streak of 3 rounds in a row with a bird, I figured this was as good as a time as any. So I called up a buddy and the date was set for a 9AM tee time.

As I was pulling through the gate, my buddy called and said if we want to go out a little early we can be the first group out. There was one other car in the parking lot. Place was empty!! After a few range balls we set out at 8:50 as the FIRST group on the course. NOTE: To So Cal folks who can’t get a tee time, Call Spyglass they have a handful of prime tee times available (at least mid week).

With the AT&T tournament around the corner, the course is in absolute perfect condition. Greens were super smooth without a pitch mark to be found. I will say that the greens were a bit slower than expected. They rolled at a medium-fast pace but not the wicked fast like Pebble on Saturday. Greens easily held well struck approach shots.

Fairways were top notch. Easily a 10+ rating. Very lush throughout. Rough was thick and penal. The front nine seemed worse than the back. Might also have to do with the fact I hit more fairways on the back nine.

Sand traps were also top notch. I was in two and was easily able to escape both bunkers which were deep. It’s such a pleasure hitting out of perfectly groomed sand traps with nice deep fluffy sand.

Tee boxes were postcard picture perfect. Level, lush and divot free.

POP was whatever we wanted it to be. With one in front of us and the group behind us being 3 holes back we were like on our own private course. So Nice!!

COVID: Masks inside like everywhere else, credit card only payment (either to pro shop or central reservations), flagsticks must be left in and they had foam inserts. As the first group out we ran into a couple cups that didn’t have the foam insert pushed all the way down. An easy tap with the putter took care of it.

Snack shop is closed down, no beverage cart out. We walked (CPO for those who want to take a cart). No club cleaning allowed after the round but we did get the shoe service. (attendant double masked and gloved) which was nice, mainly to just be able to tip them.

The sun was out, waves were crashing and it was a spectacular day at The Glass. And the gambler? Well, he broke even, but as he drifted off to sleep, I found an ace birdie I could keep!

Went out mid morning on Christmas Eve (day) for one last shot at getting a birdie at The Glass in 2020. Course conditions remain spectacular with the greens being perfect 10. It always amazes me how they are able to get the greens to roll so fast as in super fast yet keep them soft and easily holding approach shots.

Everything else was in the 9-10 range as well. POP was very slow on the front nine. Then on 11 the marshal forced the group 2 ahead to speed up and actually moved them up a 1/2 hole. Kudos to the marshal for getting things moving. We flew through the last 7 holes


Covid: restaurant is closed. No beverage cart allowed out right now. End of round shoe service is available. See my previous review last month for caddie service.

Spyglass Hill is always a highly recommended course.

Played The Glass this morning with a 9AM tee time. Weather was absolutely perfect. Nice and sunny from start to finish with only an occasional very light breeze. With the beautiful clear weather it was nice to enjoy the numerous ocean views throughout the course. Yes, the first 5 holes are on the water but there are another ½ dozen holes with views of the bay as well.

Conditions were pristine but not quite immaculate. Tee to green it was a solid 9-9.5. Greens rolled smooth and super fast. Greens were soft and easily held well struck shots. Make sure to get a pin sheet at the pro-shop or from the starter.

Fairways were excellent though just a slight (make that very slight) bit under the normal spectacular carpet like condition I’ve seen them in the past. Fairways were soft and didn’t offer a tremendous amount of roll out.

Tee boxes were great as usual. Rough was a little thinner than some of the previous times I’ve been out. No issues with the bunkers. Sand was superb. Nice and fluffy.

Spyglass is always one of my favorite courses as it checks off all of the boxes. Great conditions, ocean views, water hazards and elevations changes.

COVID & etc. Range balls are included with green fee. Range is stocked with TP5 & TP5x balls. Putting green is open with plastic rings in the cups to allow the ball to drop about the depth of a half ball. Cups on the course were set a little deeper but not much. This was the one area, I would like to see changed. Set the rings deeper please. No rakes in the sand traps and masks are only required inside the pro shop which they limit to only a few people inside at a time.

Drink cart around several times and they prefer to take credit cards. Caddies are still not allowed to touch/carry clubs or clean golf balls. Caddies can only spot errant shots and read the greens. They have opened up some of the services like shoe cleaning after the round. Not sure how long this will last with covid restrictions starting to tighten up again.

Spyglass Hill is obviously a great track and well worth the walk.

Kind of like Bandon Trails on steriods. 18 interesting holes, with some course knowledge needed. Caddie would've been helpful. Had a great time. Want to get back and get redemption.
