I play TC all the time and now is the time of year where conditions get iffy here. BACK NINE GREENS HAVE BEEN PUNCHED! I was told that when I called so I knew what I was getting into. But, they were running a discounted rate (at least for yesterday and today). Even the greens that hadn't been punched (front nine) were not in the best condition. Majority of fairways hadn't been mowed in a while, too (specifically #1 and #3). Majority of tee boxes hadn't been mowed in a while either. It's just a little rough around the edges for what they want to be a high end experience. Gotta say, conditions at San Juan Hills are much better right now. I'd avoid TC for a few months at least. Chris in pro shop was awesome, as usual. Cool cat.

All the reviews are pretty dead on for the quarry right now. Greens slow as molasses. Some of them are hacked up. Some have no blemishes at all. It's a beautiful setting. Look for a cheaper rate than the posted $65. They can be found. Customer service was very good.

I play here all the time. Same compliments, and a couple new complaints. Course was in good enough condition although the greens were the slowest I've ever seen them here. Theywere smooth; just super slow. Bunkers, as usual, super inconsistent. You go from hard pan to deep soft beach sand. It's the biggest complaint I always have about this course. Too bad they can't get them consistent. And without that lame beach sand. I usually walk this course, but we had visitors from out of town who wouldn't/couldn't walk. Didn't matter, cuz they require you to take a cart on Thurs-Sunday. I get they need a little extra coin on those busy days but I'd say you could have played the course fastest walking than riding cuz I counted at least five holes that were cart path only, including the par 5's, the widest fiarways on the course. So, you end up taking your bag off the cart and walking anyways. I appreciate that they wanna keep the fairways in decent shape or they have a problem with turf on those holes, but I don't think it's good to force us to take a cart, then have us walking all over the place anyways due to cart path restrictions. Feels like a money grab to me. Still a great course. Added distance from tips on 10 and 11 make them legitimate par 4's, which I still par'd yesterday! Even with the complaints, I'd still recommend the course.

Played 5/29. As usual, perfect conditions. I'd also add, place was packed, yet we still walked the course in four hours. Great pace of play.

Played in the rain on May 22nd. First time back to this course since ownership change. Much more casual and enjoyable. Counter help and starter were very nice. I was a little perplexed...we had our Roger Dunn Birdie card which is supposed to give you 40% off. We only got $4 off? I"m imagining that 40% was for the old rates under Troon. In any case, course is still worth $45. I love the lay out here. Everything was in good shape. Sure, the rough is pretty non existent and sometimes there's a problem with your ball up against a clump of grass in the rough, but deal with it. Or keep it in the fairway! The place was empty. And we did have to get off the course during some thunder and lightning but the staff was very polite and efficient in making sure we were safe. Gen. Manager Steve even came by and intro'd himself in the bar while we were waiting out the storm. I'll put this course back in my rotation. Too bad it costs me more to drive there now than to play there!

You can take the aeration alert off. Greens are back to great condition at SJHills. Course is in very good shape. I wish they'd let the rough grow a little longer to define the fairways more. Again, only complaint is bunkers. You go from soft beach sand to hard pan from hole to hole. They'll have to re-rate the course once 18 is done; they've lengthened #10 and 11 by at least 50 yards each. #11 now plays as a 450 yard par 4! The temp green on 18 only plays to 70 yards from the blues, not the 105 they post on their temp sign. Customer service, as always, is great. Kudos to Ray for getting me right out as a single walk on.

Walked right on today as a twosome. Parking lot was half empty. I've been playing here for 6 years and I've never seen the parking lot so empty at 9am. Thought maybe there was a nuclear attack somewhere and everyone was home watching CNN...

As usual, customer service is awesome. Dave in Pro shop is, well, a Pro. Course is in good shape for a muni that gets a ton of traffic. Everything is a 5 or 6, except tee boxes. Way too many bare spots and holes on tee boxes. But, hey, for $28 and to walk on immediately, it's cool. Had pulled pork sandwich in the new restaurant. It was okay. Place is definitely a nice addition and the new clubhouse is great.

Course is what it is. Rough around the edges muni golf. Speakin gof rough; it is brutal here! some places over 3 inches thick. Really gotta watch your shots if not in short grass. Many tee boxes are severely "unlevel." But, we play here alot will continue to do so.

A good muni. Never a problem walking on early on Fridays. Great customer service. Greens still bumpy from aeration. Cool vibe (beach mellow). It's a good value.

We played both Butterfield and Chino Creek yesterday (3/24). These courses are a little rough around the edges, but are a great value for the money. Greens were in great shape, but very slow. VERY SLOW. Fairways were lush as they aggressively overseeded this year. Bunkers are mostly in bad shape; there's even a local rule that you can remove rocks from the bunkers. The rough was brutal!!! We each lost at least two balls each in the rough. The rough is what makes these two courses tough right now. Keep it in the fairway.

Played here twice in the last week...first off on 1/2 and in the Creek Card tourney yesterday. Course is lush and in very good shape. Greens are very good, except for #5 which is full of ball marks (par 3) and a three inch by three inch chunk taken out of the middle of it (like someone hit a three iron off the green). Fairway are wet, but lush. It's card path only as they had 4 inches of rain so of course there are many muddy spots. Rough was thick and wet. Course is in real good shape.

Played 12/22...I've played this course about half a dozen times. It's a great test of golf. But, I wouldn't go back in the winter. We had a two hour frost delay. They send us out in shotgun format, which is fine, and pace of play was fine, BUT, beware their stated FROST DELAY POLICY (it's a big printout framed on the counter by the starter). It basically says, they can't guarantee you 18 holes if there is a frost delay. So, let's say they start you on #7. You play through to #18, then head to #1 to play #1-6. They'll "try" and squeeze you in amongst the groups teeing off on #1. Try is the operative word. If they can't squeeze you in, you get a voucher for, get this, 9 holes! I dunno, I understand that the weather isn't under their control, but I'd think they'd accomodate those there first instead of those who come later. We got in 18 holes, no problem, but I would have been very upset if they couldn't "squeeze us in" to complete a whole round.
Conditions: Greens immaculate; traps well maintained; tee boxes fine; fairways dormant, but playable. I don't think it's worth full price in the winter. A little ragged. Definitely not worth $90 on a weekend. I'd say $60 and $35 would be reasonable in the winter (weekend/weekday). I'll go back on my birthday and play it for free.
