This course is what it is but with the conditions and improvements they have made going to give them a shout. Conditions are the best I have ever seen here, fairways are green and lush. Rough is full and somewhat penal if you get greedy. The course is just 6100 yards from the tips but they have really tried to improve things here. Greens are medium in speed and hold shots well. Being that this is Cresta Verde you will find plenty of unrepaired ball marks but even with this the greens are above average with a fair amount of break. They do still have problems lack of grass on a few of the fairways lets say the 15th and 18th but over all good conditions. Big problems with the bunkers, hard and very little sand at best, with several having grass growing and most with more than average amount of rocks.
For 27 dollars anytime, includes cart you cant beat the price in this location. They have dropped a fair amount of money to improve on conditions and speaking with clubhouse today more money is coming to improve the bunkers. Driving range in need of newer balls, and only mats. Practice green is small and suits the purpose at this time. Again it wont knock your socks off but its a fun little track great course for iron work,

Played Trump today, had a 11:00 tee time. Course was practically empty so the starter got us out early by 10:40. Lets dive right in, customer service was outstanding from the bag drop all the was through to the starter. We were warned at check in that major changes were occurring to the course. Lets make it short and simple, all of the water fall cosmetics are now gone, replaced by green fencing, heavy equipment and plenty of lumpy brown dirt. How they are still charging regular rack rates here is criminal. Lucky for me my buddy had a discount package for two golfers at 160.00 bucks. If I had paid the rack here now there is no telling what might have happened.
I understand the drought, but this was shocking. Lets start at the practice range. Upon arrival the first thing you notice are several signs stating not to hit any club that will give you 230 yards total, eliminate the driver and 3 wood and 5 wood. Secondly the condition of the range is horrendous, chewed up clumpy grass and woefully uneven. Lets throw in the fact it is dry and brown and you have 4 aces and a King Kicker.
The signature first hole is a mess. Playing at 180 yards with a temp green that is about 7 feet in total area, with beautiful heavy equipment and green fencing every where, not to mention the workers that are running free everywhere.
The views get better but the course conditions just seem to declined after that. Fairways are marginal at best, not only being dry but thin and even barren in several areas throughout the course. Rough is inconsistent at best. Some areas are lush and thick while other areas and I am talking the vast majority are thin and rather easily played and recovered from.
The bunkers... well they at least have the 17th and 18th holes to be proud of, nice white fluffy sand with good depth. I will say this, they are deep faced with several requiring a good solid effort to save par. Unfortunately that's where it ends. Several bunkers all of which I played from today lack any measurable amount of quality sand with many being only a few inches deep and rather hard. I noticed several scoring irons hit by my playing partners and myself that actually bounced when landing in the sand today, OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The greens were in good to great condition. Rolling at a 10 according to the starter. They held shots well, yet provided run out when the shot was played.
Tee boxes were a mix of fair to average, with many having above average divot damage, with more than normal areas of unevenness and in a few extreme cases rather dry.
I cant speak of previous rounds here as this was my first experience, but expectation from previous reviews, price, name and what ever else you choose to throw in the hat had the round failing rather miserably to Expectations.
I would like to get back here and play again when conditions are better, but with the price being charged and conditions as they are not for awhile.

Played Journey with 7 fellow GKers. A little GK Easter Egg, thanks to Johnny for setting it up. Course is in good shape, with plenty of green and just a touch of the continuing drought noted.
Fairways were green and maybe just a tad hard to normal. Able to get some run out, but nothing outrageous. Rough is about 1-3 inches normally found although some areas exceed that by a few inches. It is fluffy and you will catch a bad lie here and there with the ball sitting way down, but it is fair.
Bunkers, and I found plenty of them this day, were rather wet/damp and slightly more crusty which you rarely see here. Also some mainly on the back side were rather short on sand, played from a few 16th left front and 17th back rear had underlying exposed.
Today I found the greens to be rather slow about a 9. Also noted were many unrepaired ball marks or poorly repaired one. A few greens seemed to be slightly crusty as well, not bad but still different than what you expect to normally find here. Round played out in just over 5 hours which in itself is a little shocking however we were not in a big rush and course appeared to be rather open so it was a nice leisurely round. Overall still a most play and would definitely be back.

Had the opportunity to play the North and South courses here in early July. Unlike the South course with is open to the general public all month and is quite heavily bunkered, with tradition Oregon type golf, tree lined fairways, the North Course caters to more of the member and guest type atmosphere,
Played as a guest of a member, this course is fantastic. Links type feel with a costal flavor. Large green complexes with huge breaking putts, find yourself in the wrong place on the green ( speaking from experience here) and your looking at in some cases 10 feet of break, difficult yes but way fun!!!!
Plenty of native tall grass to get yourself into trouble with, miss the fairways here and it's at least one shot if not two.
Both the course here have multiple green complex, with the South sharing two pins and the North having a tripled tier green with three pins, you looking for fun try finding yourself on the wrong level or side here on either course.
Pricing is good and well worth the cost, you can pull both off for less than 70.00 apiece in prime slots.

Played the Quarry today 10:20 tee time. Round pace was just under 4 hours. Customer service was terrific and I really like the facilities here.
Course temp in the upper 90s. It was surprisingly green and shots held well although putting was slow, and every green had this ripple effect that was I would guess maybe an 1/8 high. They were not opened up or vertical cut just had a weird look to then that I could not identify or my playing partners.
Sand coverage in bunkers was horrible from fairway. Dry hard dirt with maybe 1/2 of sand and several good sized rocks. Greenside was even worse with a combo of poor quality sand and clay. Not sure what happened here and got no answers from the pro shop.
Disappointing all and all, and somewhat of a bummer to play today,

Played Talega Golf Club today at a 10:48 tee-off.
OH HOW THE MIGHTY HAVE FALLEN. I understand the water problems so I will try to be as fair as possible. The fairways are hard, with very tight or thin lies, and have a well, brown hillside look to them, watch your driver because the ball rolls for ever. It really is bad, hate to see what the future holds right now. The rough, or lack of it is dry like Chinese noodles. It is so bad it almost cracks under your feet as you walk. Ok, so enough said about the fairways and rough, now lets get to something I think they can control.
The greens are as bad, no really bad for this course. Slow, bumpy, and very inconsistent, slow here and fast in other areas but overall very slow. Many have severe ball marks left unattended or repaired wrong. Some greens are bone dry and the fringe is very much obsolete, or dry as well. Now lets talk about the bunkers, WOW did I say BUNKERS, more of a Desert waste land, with minimal sand and what is there is hard pan at best, excluding a few that seem to be taken care of. Lets not forget about the ROCKS also, take your Jack Hammer in case your Sand Wedge won't do the job.
As always customer service here is terrific, from the bag drop boys, golf shop attendant, starter and even the beverage workers. This is one of my favorite tracks to play in the O.C. and enjoy the whole experience here normally, but right now its way over priced for the product that is being delivered. If you can find a deal for under Fifty bucks its still worth the play, if not stay away right now. It's sad but true, THE ONCE MIGHTY HAVE BEGUN TO FALL, here's hoping some water hits the fairways!!!!!

Ok, I realize Dos Logos is what it is but here is my review of the good and bad.
Not sure what course Sammy3 played on 3/5 but here are my thoughts for the same day. The good first- BBQ sandwich with chips and coke, 6 dollars. That sums it up!!!!!
The bad, let's start at pace of play, tee offed at 10:30, finished the 18th hole at 4:23. Front nine in 3 hours and 30 minutes. 10 min wait on each tee for guys that hit their drives 150 yards then waited for the green to clear each time for their second, which normally traveled possibly 100 yards or so. Funny thing is each member of this group complained about the slow play, REALLY, no comment to them, and shut my mouth. Now let's talk about the worthless Marshall, three times he came up to this group to talk about nothing in particular, in fact was joking with them and never once in clear hearing distance for me asked them to skip a hole or pick up pace, they were roughly a hole and a half behind.
Now let's chat about the the cutting crew, 3 times a mower went across the tee as I was addressing the ball or in my down swing. I am not talking about a different tee, my tee box, twice less than 20 yards. Forget that is was the same guy each time, or that my playing partners and I called the clubhouse to report it and had no action taken, the third time was the charm and finally used the gentlemen as target practice. Now let's talk about his co-workers, twice we waited for at least 7 minutes for groundskeeper to move his cart off the path, along with his tools, normally not a big deal except we looked at each other for several seconds before he turned his back and continued working.
Course conditions, wow really greens were shaggy, bumpy, several bare spots, and poorly maintained and I use maintained very cautiously! Fairways were dry, with a mixture of bad to this is ridiculous lies. Bunker sand through out the course was less than an inch, showing in many spots brown dirt and clay or even under linings. My playing partners on this day were both senior club members and each of then professed to me several times that they had never seen the course this bad! So there you have it, my score for the day is not important, what is important is the condition of the course, and the staff, OOPS I mean the appearance of a staff. Tee boxes have poor grass and several are very uneven.
Oh one more good, I give the cart a an 8 in looks and number of times seen.

Ok so I went to play and see what all the fuss is about. Wow, every review is right on. Instantly one of my top five for Southern CA. Cant wait to get back for the GK plays.
So lets just talk about the course for a short while. The condition of this place is superb!! On this day the greens were running a 12, fast but who cares what a joy, if you read them right you have a shot even at this pace. Not a ball mark to be found unrepaired. Everything here is maintained to a high level, greens, rough, fairways fringe you name it. So here are my only 3 complaints.
Found the sand to be very heavy, playable for sure but heavy never the less. The next two do not have a effect on play, but are still annoying, First the restaurant is closed until 11:00 A.M. with an early tee-time this I think should be mentioned when talking to pro-shop, secondly there is no at the turn refreshment shack, with normally isn't bad if you can get back to the club house, but your on the other end of the course so this is impossible, and finally no cart refreshments, until 12:00PM finally found the girl at the 17th tee, sorry but I will wait the extra 20 minutes.

Played Arrowood on Wednesday the 18th. Have played here many ties before at this time of year and at other points during the season. I was shocked to see the poor conditions that the course is currently in. Lets just jump right into it. Greens I would give a 3 out of 10. Very bumpy, ball marks every where repaired improperly or not at all. Very thin hardly no grain, impossible to find a putt on the course right now that wasn't going through some kind of small bare dirt spot. Very difficult to hold any green no such thing as a hop and stop on this day.
Bunkers, well this to was a horrible shock for the most part, can not remember a time playing here that they were ever this bad. Rate them a 3 out of 10. Very poor coverage in several greenside bunkers. Thin to almost pathetic depth on many greenside. Others appear to have had a truck load of sand dumped into them and smoothed over. Fairway bunkers were not much better on this day, very thin and plenty of little rocks to make you think twice about playing from them. My foursome which contained 2 snow birds from Canada commented that they have played this course several times per month over the last 5 years during their time here in Winter and have never seen the conditions this bad.
Fairways although somewhat thin provided a decent lie on most shots so give them a 6 out of 10. Rough is spotty at best, some areas contain a constant degree of grass, others clumps, or sporadic coverage so go with a 4 out of 10 just because a 3 would be criminal.
Customer service as always is very good, and they do their best to get you out early if possible. Marshalls are consistent with moving play along and carefully watch for horse play by patrons.
It was overall a disappointing round with the conditions but I will be back because I have seen what the course has to offer at the top of its condition.

Played Red Hawk today @ 10:30. Round was a good pace at just over 4 hours. That is where the good ends. Greens were the worst I have ever seen here. Plenty of bare spots, bumpy, ball marks everywhere. Granted, if the players would repair when they hit to the green it would help, but no call for the conditions noted. Fairways are still winter play, but some new growth noted. Bunkers were simply horrid!!! Little to no sand in bunkers, and what is there is practically a joke as far as quality. Rough as expected, is fairly thin and clumpy. Normally enjoy a round here but not again until late spring.

Played the course on July 21st. Outstanding, from check in to the course. Pro shop is friendly and informative. Practice areas are well maintained with a huge hitting area, 3 bunker with large green practice area. Putting green is large and relates course conditions and green speed well.
The boxes were flat and well maintained, little to no divot damage even on the par three holes. Fairways were lush and provided a fair amount of role. First cut of rough was thick and lush, ranging from 2-4 inches. Past that and trouble awaits, high thick natural grass that swallows your ball, don't get greedy here or big numbers await. Fair landing zones off the tee with plenty of trouble from Large Ponderosa Pines, marsh areas, and plenty of water in the form of lakes, creeks and river. Accuracy here is a premium over distance, but there are a few carries of plus 200 yards from the middle tees. Greens are excellent, large smooth and very quick, running a 13 on this day. Hit a good shot and you were rewarded, but miss your aiming point left or right of the pin, or get above the pin and 3 putts were likely. Greens have plenty of unseen breaks as well as ones that you could see and read but still not believe. Bunkers were in great condition, with all shots being available for play. Average depth of sand was 4-6 inches with steep high faces. A terrific course with outstanding conditions through out, a most play when in the area, pictures to follow soon.

Played Talega 4/29/14. Temps in the low 90s with a stiff 20-30 mile hour wind. Customer service is fantastic from the bag drop all the way through the practice range attendant. Course is in great shape. Greens showed no signs of wear, not a ball mark or bump to be found, rolling about a 11 because of the stiff breeze, Held shots extremely well.
Rough is quite penal, 2-4 inches deep and heavy, with most lies but the lucky ones sitting way down and forcing a difficult recovery, don't get greedy just get the ball out and advance it a distance for your third that will get you on the green.
Fairways were excellent, lush and well maintained with enough roll to be honest, well defined and provided perfect lies. Only a few areas GUR and most not in play anyway from the tee box or second shots.
My only problem here is the bunkers, although they are deep and well formed, most were lacking in depth of sand. You would find some that provided a nice fluffy base 04 3-5 inches, others were hard pan where maybe 1-2 was present, still others were so hard that if not for the steep faces you may have chosen to putt instead of trying to pick the ball, no way for a blast out of these. Overall the course rates very high and would recommend playing here, I will definitely be back.
