Played today in a nice 4 hour pace. Course is in winter condition at present, except for the greens. Tee boxes are dormant and just OK; fairways are a mixture of green grass, brown grass and weeds (not ideal lies but plenty of roll); bunkers are playable; lots of rough on the outside of the fairways and around the greens; greens are in good shape (but hard when temp are cool, took awhile for them to soften) and very fast. Customer service is excellent (thanks Miko) and the ladies in the cafe. If you are just looking for a round of golf, OK. Playing conditions that exceed 7 or above, NO.

Out this AM before the heat and got through in 3.5 H. Course is in relatively good shape, given recent warm weather and number of players. Found the tee boxes in good shape, though I hope someday they will level them all, like they did at Los Verdes (they could use it)? Fairways have decent coverage, though there are some bare areas and brown areas, but did not effect lies, or roll. Bunkers all had good sand and in decent shape. Greens were mowed and in very nice condition, providing good chipping and putting. Customer service excellent. Decent and well run county course.

Got out last evening on the Mt 9. Found the course to be in very nice shape. Fairways are firm and provide good roll and decent coverage; tee boxes were fine with no issues; bunkers very playable with good sand; no rough to speak of; greens were in very nice shape, chipped and putted (fast) great. Nice little 9 hole layout, with small greens that test your iron shots, inexpensive, fast play. Customer service was excellent

Played yesterday in a nice POP of 3 H. Course is in decent shape at the present time. Fairways have some dry areas, but for the most part are very playable, with a lot of roll out; tee boxes were all fine and found no issues; bunkers were playable, though some needed raking from previous players; little or no rough to speak of; greens were all in nice shape (not punched yet) and chipped/putted very nicely. Customers service was excellent.

Out with a buddy for a Saturday round early at Whittier Narrows and played the River and Pine 9s from the blue tees. Rented a cart after a rough Friday night at the bar and thought the $51 greens fee a bit steep for what I was seeing of the course on the drive in and at the starter.

Unfortunately those concerns were realized when my friend and the three guys we were paired up with (yes, they allow fivesomes) saw the first of many thin, burned out with plenty of dirt fairways throughout much of the course. Very disappointing to hit nice drives only to find your ball in a dirt patch surrounded by dead, dried up grass and weed. Not ideal.

The greens were in pretty okay shape though so that was nice, but plenty of ball marks to contend with, a few greens with an odd fungus growing in them here and there, and of course a few burned out spots near the aprons. But not too terrible. The sand seemed just okay from the bunkers I was in, but others complained they were too thin. Rough wasn't too bad as it differed very little from what is supposed to be a superior fairway. Tee boxes were fine.

Nothing particularly thrilling about the layout at Whittier Narrows as there is rarely much trouble to worry about if deciding to lay up or go for it. There are some OB areas on the boundary and of course the concrete river bisecting the course, but that really only comes into play once on the Pine 9 par 3 7th hole when flying it to get to green. The rest is mostly straight away and length is this course's greatest defense. The River 9 par 4 8th is a beast. I guess this place kind of reminds me of Woodley Lakes when I think about it.

Busy Saturday but since we had five, and the group in front of us had five, we waited here and there but never for what seemed like eternity. No cart service was a bummer as the day started overcast but then warmed up significantly when the sun started coming out more and more. And nice service in the cafe.

So overall, while I personally played a pretty good round again finally, I would definitely hold off on playing here until they get the fairways back into better shape. And I know they can as the only other time I played here I remember, while not on every hole, many of the fairways were in fine, lush shape not long ago. I would not mind coming back again when that's fixed, and would also like to play the Mountain 9 one of these days.

They are dry and fast, though. Little or no rough to speak of. Tee boxes were all fine. Bunkers appeared good as well. The greens were in very nice shape and chipped and putted nicely. Customer service was excellent. Nice little 9 hole layout, with 3 par 3's of various length, 1 par 5 (1st hole) and 5 par 4's of various length. Easy on and easy off, for a quick evening 9.

It had been several years since I played here, so thought I'd give it a shot. Using the senior discount made it cost effective. I've never been a big fan of this course, but always enjoyed it because it allows you to wail away with the driver with little fear. Fairways were dry so gained lots of roll, helping to reduce some of the long par fours. Greens were by far the best part of the course.

Not in any bunkers, but they did not look like they had much sand in them. Very thin looking. Overall for the $$, good decision to return but it will be a while before I revisit.

Does not really effect the fairways that much, but the fairways are hard/fast with the dry conditions. Bunkers all appeared hard/crusty and glad I missed them. Little to no rough to speak off. Tee boxes are dry and getting a little beat up. Greens were the best part of the course, as they were chipping/putting very nicely. Customer service was excellent.

Played the Mountain 9 today at super twilight. No one on the course (not that hot oddly enough) so I finished very quickly (90 mins). I like this 9 hole course, for the variety of holes (3 good par 3's of varying lengths; one par 5 and good long/short par 4's). But the small greens are nice because they allow you to work on being more accurate with your irons. Tee boxes were all fine; fairways are browning up some, but no issues with them; bunkers all appeared fine (not in any); greens and areas around the greens are in super shape. Customer service excellent. Nice 9 hole course to keep your game in shape and nice not having to fight large crowds.
