Played it 3/27/12 - no notice from the pro shop that the fairways were being punched, were overwatered with GUR flags in many fairways, and in overall inconsistent condition. Greens were bumpy, marked up and generally poor. And all this at their normal retail rate - no discount. If I ever play this track again, you can bet I will check on the condition with Greenskeeper.org before throwing money away.

I rarely play this course in the afternoons, normally I play first thing in the morning, so I was shocked at how slow the greens were. They were as slow as I have ever seen them, and it was not to my liking. Fairways were same as always, dormant, thin, etc, but that's how they always are. Just couldn't get used to the speed of the greens - or lack of.

The staff was great as usual, pace of play was slow, which I don't experience when playing early AM, so that was an adjustment. I think I'll stick with the morning times from now on.

My first time at this course and if I go back will be a lot later this year. Fairways dormant and run out. Realized you need to 1 or 2 less club so the ball doesn't run off the fairway and into the arroyos as their is no difference from fairway to rough, Fast and smooth, the fairways were faster than the greens. For seniors a $40 green fee would be fine but not worth the $55 they charge.

We chose Arroyo Trabuco for our first round of 2012 and glad we did. We had not made a tee time and therefore we were considered walk on golfers and that paid off with an additional $10 off the green fees. All the staff is terrific at this course and they had us out on the golf course within 15 minutes of arrival. We teed off at 7:30 and we finished the 18th hole at 11AM. Even though there were players in front of us, we never waited on a single hole. Marshals and beverage cart were out and things moved smoothly. The course is dormant and brown and you do get some thin lies but the fairways provide plenty of roll and the greens are in top shape and roll very well. It was cool when we teed off but by number 3 or 4 the sun began to warm things up nicely. Great golf course and in great condition, with excellent practice and warm up facilities. And if you play the course, look for the plaque in the fairway on 18 and see how far Phil drove the ball on this hole? If you are looking for a course to play in the OC, we highly recommend Arroyo Trabuco. We have never had a bad day of golf at this course. And they also offer a $25 replay round on day of play.

The greens were somewhat disappointing as they were as bumpy as I can ever recall. Perhaps all the recent cold weather is the cause. They were not bad, they just weren't good. Because the fairways are dormant, and the type of grass they use (Bermuda I believe) they always appear thin, so I kind of expect them to play like they did. Bunkers were excellent! Overall, the course was decent shape. Staff was as usual - excellent.

We played here this morning and truly enjoyed the course. The customer service from bag drop off; pro shop; starter and marshals is excellent. We finished our round in 4 hours 10 minutes. We were also fortunate to have had someone join our group who had played the course many times and his input was very very helpful. The only input you would have, having never played it before, would be visually and GPS. Relying on only that input, I believe one would have a somewhat difficult outing? Perhaps not? We did read the input from others on GK and found that to be very helpful as well. The course is a wonderful layout (well maintained in all areas) with a good mixture of holes, both short and long. The greens held well but were somewhat slow. But the putting green is just like the greens, so you know what the greens will be like when you get out on the course. The greens are large and have three distinct areas for pin placements. So get in the wrong area and you will have a long putt for sure. If you can keep the ball in the fairways and out of the hazards (what we all wish for) and putt well, you can have a very good round. You do not need to be a long hitter, as the fairways provide great role with well struck shots, allowing you to reach the greens in regulation, minus any miscues. Two holes with water, number 13 and number 18 but both require good shots to avoid it. We all enjoyed our round and would recommend and encourage those of you who have not played this fine course, to do so.

Played Tuesday, July 12th and teed off at 1pm. Pace of play was very fast as we finished in just about 4 hours. Greens were decent - much better than I thought they would be. I hadn't played here in about 2 years. I played from the tips and shot an 85. In fact, it made me want to play from the back tees more often as those tee boxes were in great shape (I imagine that's the case with most courses). Greens were good - rolled fine in my opinion. Fairways are thin but that's how Arroyo Trabuco's fairways have always been - you get an extra 20-30 yards of roll on these hard fairways but the downside is that you end up with a lie on a hard pan or else sometimes your ball will roll out of play into a hazard. You have to be a pretty straight driver off of the tee to enjoy this track. Even though the fairways are wide, there's not much room to spray your drive on any of the holes. Sand traps were in good shape as well. I played for $55 as I'm on their email list (that's their twilight rate). Was it worth the $55 I paid? Ummm, I guess so.
