I must confess I feel very guilty about writing this review, given the circumstances we are all living with. Coto is open, but with severe restrictions. No tee markers, no rakes, no pins, no ball washers, no drinking water, certainly no carts, and strictly enforced social distancing.

Very few players, mostly I believe because it is walking only, coupled with no flag sticks. However after a few times, you pretty much know where the holes will be, and since I always walk, the no carts has no impact for me.

As expected, course is in pristine condition, with such limited play and no cart traffic. The North will be closed effective 4/5/20 for three weeks for scheduled maintenance, but the South will reopen on 4/7/20. (Those greens were punched two weeks ago)

I cherish every round, because I never know if/when they will close down. However being all by myself, and the only items I touch are my own clubs, tees, and ball. Can not imagine anything safer than playing golf under this conditions. Heck of a lot safer than going to Ralphs, Lowes, Costco, getting gas or even take out food. Plus the mental benefit and physical benefit are immeasurable.

First out on Saturday at about 6:30am. Nobody playing, perhaps because of the threat of rain, perhaps due to everything that's going on in the world right now ? The recent rains have really made everything green and much of the "winter condition" are turning to normal. Much more grass on the fairways and the greens have become more receptive and the speed is now manageable.

Lovely conditions to play. Quiet morning, just the geese, coots, and maintenance, and me

Off early walking in the drizzle to finish before a 9am shotgun start. I was hoping that the rain yesterday and this morning would soften the greens, because they have been so firm, because I do not hit the ball high, becomes super difficult to stop shots on a number of the holes. For those that have played the North course at Coto, nearly every approach must carry a bunker, so you have to be able to fly the ball to the green, and then somehow get it to stop !

Greens firm and very fast, running between 11.5 & 12. Fairways just now starting to get a little more grass. Bunkers and tee boxes are excellent. Rough still has issues. They will be punching greens in a few weeks, so that should help with the firmness.

Out early as usual on a cool, but nearly perfectly clear winter morning. To my complete surprise, there was NOBOBY playing golf this morning. I mean zero people ??? Sometimes I just can not understand how different it can be from day to day ?

Maybe it was because the greens today were just crazy quick at times, Very easy to putt the ball off the green if not careful, plus the roll out was tough to judge. It was almost like I had no local knowedge, which is stupid because I have played over 6500 rounds at the two Coto courses, but if you watched me putt today, it would have looked like it was my first time there.

Fairways improving, bunkers still in great shape as are the tee boxes. If they would just address the rough and green surrounds ! Otherwise it was a wonderful way to spend a couple hours on a January morning.

Out first off as usual in the dark at 6:15am. Not very crowded, but since I walk, have to get out in front of golfers who use carts, which is almost everyone. Cold, about 41 degrees, which is another reason I prefer to walk, to generate a little body heat.

Greens are running about 11 to 11.5 and true. Tee boxes and bunkers are great, fairways are very tight, which was what I used to prefer, but as my skills have diminished, it has become a struggle to play from, particularly in the cold. Rough is by far the worst part of the course, thin, patchy, bare, stringy and any other non complimentary words I could use to describe it.

My intention this morning was to play Green River, but thanks to the recent review which only proves just how important it is to "know before you go", decided to stay home and play Coto.

My intention this morning was to play Green River, but thanks to the recent review which only proves just how important it is to "know before you go", decided to stay home and play Coto.

Both courses are still CPO, but being a walker, has no real impact on me. Greens, bunkers, tee boxes weathered the rains very well, but the fairways are still wet. No casual water, but still a bit sloppy in places. Not very busy as I guess people just don't want to play with CPO, and hardly anyone walks anymore.

The best part is that the greens are rolling really true and quick, but still receptive. Nice !

The club has set up both courses for the annual "Fall Stampede", so conditions were better than they had been, particularly the greens. Running 11.5 to 12, newly over seeded tee boxes were very nice,... Continue »

The club has set up both courses for the annual "Fall Stampede", so conditions were better than they had been, particularly the greens. Running 11.5 to 12, newly over seeded tee boxes were very nice, as are most of the fairways. Bunkers were as usual, excellent. The only remaining issue is the rough, which really need to be addressed. Otherwise course was in good shape.

They just recently fired the superintendent, for reasons not worth boring you with, so now we will look to find a replacement. I have been a member here for 30 years, and we have a never ending stream of superintendents. The best one was the guy who was there when I first joined, since then each one seems to be a little worse than the one before?

Early Saturday round on a warm October morning, didn't even need a wind shirt. Greens have fully recovered and are rolling nicely. Most of the fairways are good, but still a few areas which need attention (Too thin) The tee boxes are being over seeded, so it's a struggle to find a good spot to tee it up.

Getting ready for the cold mornings which are forecast for next week. While course conditions might improve with the cooler weather, hitting off in high 30 - low 40 degrees makes for some challenging conditions.

I re-read my last review of Coto North and how pleased I was with the condition. Well a lot has changed in less than a month. Greens, while still true, are considerably slower? Fairways are thin with numerous bare areas. Rough was just punched and the plugs have yet to be picked up, so it's like walking in a mud pile.

It is incredible how quickly things change ! In all fairness, they recently punched the fairways (Again?) but they have not recovered very well, and that does not explain where all the grass went? The plus side is play is way down, so the course is not very busy.
