Played Sunday October 18th. This is a very unique course, nothing like it that I am aware of in Southern Cal. Great links style layout, very falt, however, with many mounds, low spots and bunkers throughout. A yardage guide is a must. A narrow, but deep, rock filled burn runs through fairways and in front of greens. You must be aware of where the burn is. It doesn't run across every hole, but can surprise you if you don't pay attention. Condition on this day was a little substandard. Green were punched a few weeks ago and have not completely healed. Greens are spotty and many 'repaired' ball marks are visible. Greens still rolled fairly smoothly. Fairways are a little thin and bare in spots, and soggy in others. However, the condition kind of added to the "links" experience. I don't imagine true Scotish links course have lush fairways either. Service in clubhouse was excellent. I will play here many times in the future.

I played this course on Saturday the 12th. First the customer service was great a gentleman named Brandon behind the counter was a breath of fresh air. He greeted us when we came through the door, and gave us the history and run down of the course. This was our first time playing it so we needed some local knowledge. We made our way down to the Driving Range where we were pleased to find grass tees that's always a plus. The course was in great shape from Tee box to Greens. Becareful of the burns...you cannot see them at times and they to sneak up on you. They are in the fairways, before the greens and at times run ajacent to the holes. This is a true Links style course and i have played nothing like it in southern california. Make the trip down to The Links at Summerly...if you enjoy golf the way it was meant to be played...you will love this place.

Played 09/10. Very impressed. Amazing that they can keep the course so green when the surrounding area is so brown. Course was all around in great condition.

Played this morning at 7:45. There were quite a few groups at the course when we got there, but the groups were spaced out nicely so we really didn't see anyone. $32 green fee special, so you can't really beat that :-)

The course was dried out in some areas and overwatered in others. The greens were firm and pretty fast, but the ball mark damage was atrocious! People REALLY need to fix their ball marks. The fairways were firm on some holes and that led to lots of roll, and other holes were waterlogged and there was no roll. The tee boxes were pretty close to perfect. I really like the layout of this course. Some holes play longer than the yardage, while other holes play shorter. Nice course. I'll be back.

Played at 12:15 on Saturday, 9/5/09, on a pretty good golfnow.com rate. Sunny, breezy, hot day and the course was almost deserted - cart girl came by on #4 and said she was going in because only 4 groups were on the course. Windy afternoons at Summerly means a lot of holes with crosswinds and into the wind, making club selection, ball flight, and controlling your ball very important. Greens were moist and held shots pretty well, but there were many unrepaired ball marks. Some fairways had mushy areas as the course is keeping the grass going in 100 degree heat. Overall fairways were fairly firm and lies were good. Some rough areas were patchy and clumpy - lies were not consistent. Sand was pretty good, generally thin and tightly packed. Sandy waste areas were very firm - my playing partner putted from a couple of them near greens. I like Summerly's layout and course type and recommend it to everyone. Having the yardage book is essential for knowing where the burns are located - you can't play out of them, so best to avoid. Was told they will be aerifying greens the last week of September.

THe course is in great shape. You have to play this course a couple of times to know where to hit your ball. The burns are almost hidden (just like Saint Andrews). The greens are nice but have a few ball marks. What is up with these people who don't fix ball marks? They should lose all playing privledges. Anyway.... the greens are rolling smooth. The sand traps are o.k. but could use a little work. Grass driving range, and it is right next to the first tee. GPS is good and plenty of numbers on the sprinklers. Get a good rate online and go try this course.
