I can only describe the conditions as poor even for El Prado standards. It appears that they punched the greens with tines for maintenance but not filled with sand having grass sticking up above the holes. They were virtually un-puttable from 4 feet and less, clearly they didn't even mention this for the usual reasons. This is my last time trusting that the conditions are playable!! this course needs new management.

First time ever playing the course. Green fee value was equivalent to course conditions. Course outlay was somewhat confusing as you had to cross a busy street several times. Fairways were decent, rough had some bare patches, and sand traps were hard and did not contain a lot of sand. The tee boxes were overgrown and had to be cut.

The greens were very soft and rolled slow but true, however they were overtaken by hundreds of caterpillars like a scene from a horror story. Interesting phenomenon.

The staff from the pro shop to the snack bar were great and friendly. However there was no cart person and it was a very warm day.

Played an early twilight round on St Patricks Day with my Neighbor who is new to the game but has lots of potential and He loves this new game He discovered. We played along with a Father and Daughter that were a joy to play alongside. As expected the course is very green from all the rain and the fairways were in the best shape I have seen at Prado in a long time. Of course it is still bumpy and you need to chart a proper path for your golf cart. Greens were punched two weeks ago and are still recovering, slow but rolled ok with some bumps when you hit one of the aeration holes. I missed 5 birdie putts that just wouldnt fall and left me a tap in. Tee boxes were kinda long in the tooth but we just dealt with it trying to find a good place to put the peg in. rough is very penal, long and very few open spots as is the usual. Bunkers were hard dirt except for some near the greens, I only hit two and got out fine (Inland Empire golfer experience) Word of note, they flipped Butterfield 9's and we tee'd off on 10 thinking it was 1 and played two holes before realizing our error.

Got out Monday 10:30 perfect weather after Sunday rain. Course soggy but playable mostly good fairway coverage with untrimmed rough/weeds. Puddles and mud along cart paths nothing bothersome though. Greens typical good condition medium speed with surprisingly few unrepaired pitch marks. Wetness made course play long so moved we moved up to red tees. Noticed a couple greenside bunkers looking okay but found large pond in fairway one. Let twosome pass on 2nd then a couple singles on backside holes for just over 4 hour pace. With range closed starter gave dad a warmup bucket to hit short irons off grass below clubhouse which was greatly appreciated. If we'd started on red tees dad may have lowered 94 score to beat his age 92. Enjoyable day with clear snowy mountain views.

Expecting rain, did not want to travel too far or spend a ton of $$, because I wasn't certain I'd get the entire round in. As expected, not very busy, so not a problem getting out. Course was actually in better condition than I thought it would be. Greens rolled well, fairways lush and wet ! Bunkers decent considering the recent rains.

The biggest disappointment was not finding Dennis in the pro shop. There was always a comfort level whenever I visited here. Always enjoyed talking with him prior to my round. He will be missed.

Played Friday morning El Prado Butterfield on 1/11/19. Easy check in and right to the first tee, played as a single. Tee boxes are level and in good shape, getting to the fairways as a walker are little tricky. Quite a bit of mud and sand that you have to walk in. Fairways and rough had good coverage. Sand traps were pretty bad. More than one had grass growing in them and were compacted sand. Greens were the best part of the course. Smooth with little divot damage.
Last three holes came up on a group of frat boys playing 9 in their group. POP was a little over three hours so did not bother me too much

With an open Saturday this past weekend, I decided to finally return to one of the earliest 18-hole courses I ever played when I started playing golf about six years ago. I had never returned but since I have to go back to all the courses I never broke 100 at, this one was definitely on the list. Met with a buddy there and we played from the blue tees and paid around $40 with a cart which was just fine.

One note to start with - the nines were switched around about a year ago so GK Scoretracker and Scorecard info is currently backwards, but I have let Johnny know and it will be fixed.

As for the course conditions, not too shabby in truth. I was expecting a lot worse. El Prado is famous for the cow manure aromas wafting about the grounds and the distant sound of gunfire with a shooting range nearby, but when it comes to the golf, they still put together a decent product. There are dried out and thin areas in the fairways, but there are also plenty of good lies to be found. Tee boxes are a bit beat up but mostly serviceable. Bunkers looked okay to slightly thin but never found one all day. And the greens were very inconsistent in terms of playability, but mostly okay. They held shots well but varied from green to green in terms of roll and speed. That was weird but still putted well so it wasn't an issue.

The worst part about El Prado? Most likely the completely out-of-date carts and the cart path around the place that is just a shambles. Dirt sections with potholes the size of Oregon and broken up concrete stretches that require a 4x4 more than these old carts. That path could most definitely use a makeover.

Decent layout at El Prado (Butterfield Stage) and it actually works better now with the reversed nines in my opinion. It's mostly flat but there are some lakes that definitely come into play when deciding whether or not to go for some greens. Good mix of hole lengths but nothing too crazy in terms of bunkers or sloped/tiered greens. You can have a low round here, but you can also overestimate yourself and get into some trouble.

Ultimately I'm glad I made it back out finally and had a really fun day. I would certainly like to finally play the Chino Creek 18 as well sometime soon, but for now just glad to take another course off my Sub-100 list!
