Muni through and through. It has many truly fine holes. The “river” runs right down the middle through both nines and is most notably in play through the back nine. The greens had been punched a while ago and the holes have mostly healed however the greens were very bumpy. They had plenty of grass and shouldn’t be judged by yesterdays play. They might just be ready to cut and roll. The fairways are mostly adequate with the rough at times just dirt. The bunkers seemed like a mixture of dirt and old sand from a long time ago. Never the less they were consistent and relatively easy to play from. The twilight weekend walking rate was just $20.50. I like to walk and the track is easy, nice and level. The counter person was pleasant and accommodated our walk on twosome as being on deck joining a single. Too bad the condition is second-rate as the track is pretty darned good. Had a good time playing it even though I wished it were in better condition. It’s a par 73 with an extra par 5. All are reachable for the longer players.

Played 2-27-06. Course was overbooked even though we booked online. We missed our starting time by more than 40 mins. Staff was not keeping up with slow play. Course superintendent needs to do some upkeep on the fairways. It was hard to differentiate between the rough and fairways. Pro shop was understaffed to handle the crowd. POP was 4.5 hours

I played Chula Vista a week ago ( ll/30/05)and was pleasantly surprised. Fairways in great shape; greens good to excellent. Overall a positive experience. Still a tough course though!!!

Played there last Saturday, October 15th. The course is in overall good shape. Greens were in the best condition I have seen it after playing there three times before. Fairways were in good shape and well maintained. Customer service was very accomodating. The only drawback was we have to start from the back nine and when the time came around at the front (first tee), we have to wait for our turn due to four groups were ahead of us.

Played there on Monday Aug 15. The greens are in the best condition I have seen them at Chula Vista. Overall I was impressed they have gotten the course in nice shape. The Tee Boxes do have some damage which is expected at a Muni. Customer service was great--I had played there the weekend before and compalined to the pro shop about slow play and they help take care of the problem and I left satisfied

Lots of fun. You have lakes and ponds to left and right. Not crowded, so you don't feel rushed. Ambassador out there helping you locate your ball quickly. Back 9 was challenging.

The greens were in fairly good shape. The rest of the course looks like what you might expect a municipal course to look--fairways are a little shaggy; the rough is lush in places, a mud pit in other places, and baren in other places; the tee boxes are fairly beat up; the sand traps are a bit inconsistent (some fluffy--some hardpan).

But, with so many courses charging $80-$100+ on the weekends, a $30 round at Chula Vista on a Saturday morning seems like a relatively good value.

Beware of the online discounts, however. There were a number of customers who reserved their green fees online and so there ended up being about 4 groups who thought they had the 7 am tee time. Most of them were simply put on the stand-by list.
