Played on Sat. 9/8 in the afternoon. Surprised when I arrived that the course was packed with a golf tournament. Although the pace of play was slow, the course was in immaculate shape. Greens were rolled, pure green, with little to no ball marks. Layout is one of the most challenging foothill/mountain designs around: tight fairways, lots of trees, huge elevation changes from shot to shot. I used every club in my bag. Both the blue and white tees are an ample challenge for a mid teen handicap. Loved it, will return soon!

At an elevation of 3,100 feet this beautiful course is laid out through a hearty forest of pine and cedar trees and is unlike any other course found in the area. With no parallel fairways and multiple creek/ravine hazards this semi-narrow course favors more strategic golf shots as the doglegs are well guarded by +100ft trees, longer hitters may only call upon their drivers 4-5 times during the round. As the course is laid over steep terrain, this course is likely to be Sacramento's most severe in regards to elevation change from tee box to fairways/greens, stand on the 2nd, 8th, 9th, 10th or 18th tee box and you'll understand.

Before reviewing I should note it had rained at the course within 24 hours of my visit. Played twice on Feb 19th, the course maintains a seasonal cart path rule in the winter which appeared to be generally adhered to by patrons. The tee boxes were OK, there was some leveling issues but the surfaces themselves were in good condition, notable as a perhaps up to 2/3 of the holes are better suited for irons off the box. Both the fairways and rough were quite lush, there were no areas of hibernation or bare spots though unfortunately the conditions were generally too wet. I don't know how many times my ball plugged into the mud - yes mud. As great as this course is, the mud factor should be regarded as a detriment, though interestingly enough the mud didn't grab and suck your club into the ground as it was possible to swing through and get a little deep without as much of an affect on ball flight as you'd expect. The few times I visited the sand, which there isn't much of on the course layout, it was thin. Again, I'm not sure if this might be a cause/effect from the recent rain. The greens were in good shape but slower than anything played on in a long time, again the dampness I'm sure had an effect but it was tough sledding across the surface. No issues with ball marks or green coverage itself, though I did note one green that was pocked due to uneven grass growth.

The grounds crew has done a great job at removing low limbs and ground cover brush off the fairways, I probably found 20 balls. Also, because of the immense trees, each hole has the feeling of being removed from the rest of the golf course. The distinct soundwave of a golfball hitting a tree carries a good distance through the growth, other than that it's pretty quiet. I love this course and would absolutely play it again, but things have got to dry out before any such venture is made again.

What a beautiful golf course! This is probably one of the prettiest golf courses I have ever played. I do not particularly care for the course itself, condition was questionable at best, and the greens were simply ..... not good! Too "crusty" and firm and the ball did not roll very true.. too bumpy. I really enjoyed the course, once I resigned myself that I was not going to score here. The staff was perfect. A wonderful setting to spend an afternoon, just not a course I seem to be able to play well???

I played Apple Mountain once about two years ago and it was the most enjoyable course i have played. Layout, scenery and course condition are superb. Venture off the fairways and you're in the forest...bring a survival kit. Undulating greens are fast and large with plenty of slope. Trees, flowers and wild life in mountain air leave you with a feeling, that you've just played a piece of Heaven. Your golf score may suggest otherwise.

Despite the radical terrain, there are few blind shots except for a couple into elevated greens. Go to their website and check the first tee webcam to get a good feel for the place.

Don't get me wrong it does have some scenic holes but I thought the conditions were sub par. Not as nice as some other courses in the area.

Loved it. Had never played it before and had a 2 for 1 coupon so decided to try it. Can kick myself for not going out there sooner. Spectacular course; beautiful scenery. Will go back soon. Very chall... Continue »

Very challenging; lots of uneven lies if not hitting ball straight. Greens are large and challenging; but fair. Loved it.

The only thing is that the tee boxes are a little bare, however that can be due to alot of shade being around the tee box areas. The fairways are lush and always having a good patch to hit off. It was fun and enjoyable. there was nobody on the course.
