Played Friars/Mission- I have said before not my favorite course to play, but overall it is in pretty darned good condition. The track itself is not spectacular and without the good greens, and green complexes it wouldn’t be nearly as pleasant to play. If played in the afternoon and the coastal winds are blowing it can play like a whole different course. Under calm conditions it plays fairly undemanding. It’s the type of course that has a few holes you shouldn’t pound out the driver on. The par 3’s are not cheap. It has a few weak par 4’s, and a couple of reachable par fives. But it has a central urban location. The staff was friendly. The course played just under 4 hours, very nice nowadays. Ball marks, I talked to a staff member who acknowledged the situation and express his regret (for something the course isn’t really at fault for). It wasn’t the end of the world or anything, the greens did putt pretty true, the old marks were mostly smoothed out, the new fresh ones well I guess you just have to fix them in your line (and as many others as you can without holding up play). It’s just sad to see greens that are well maintained left that way at the end of the day. The greens here I have found to be either good or very good, and on a few occasions excellent. Paid about $20 more than I’d like to have paid, but due to the course’s overall good conditions, location (near the coast in the 70’s), pace of play maybe it was almost worth it.

This is not my favorite place to play, however I played yesterday on the spur of the moment and was pleasantly suprised. The 2 nines I played (Friars/Presidio) were in overall very good condition. Still some thin spots on Friars, however not nearly as thin as last year. The rough was lush and cut smooth in most places. Over best condition I have seen, which is quite remarkable since this course was basically underwater 6 weeks ago. The only knock was the number of ball marks on the greens. I picked up between 6-12 per green on the most severly impacted. It's sad to see such good greens marked up that way. Otherwise the greens were very good. Not super but very good.

the course is in great shape, the customer service was great. the faiways and greens are nice and somewhat challenging and you get done in a reasonable time well worth the money spent on this trip

Played 3-6-05, 1st Tee the fairway is dirty and muddy, i thought that was the only one that was filthy but the rest of the course was. They should have discounted the rate and announced to the public that the course is muddy and dirty. My playing partners and myself were pissed off and disappointed. Not going to play this dirty course again, not even for free. SUCKS BIG TIME.

I played there on 12/11 and had booked the course at $99.00 for std. Saturday rate. When I checked in, they informed the rate was $39.00 due to work being done on the fairways. For my troubles, they kicked in a sleeve of Nike balls! Such a deal. The course was as advertised. The fairways had bare spots but the greens were rolling true. If you can putt, you will love the course. For visitors staying downtown, this course is great. For locals, I think they can do better. If they run a special again, Riverwalk would merit my consideration but not for the weekend rate.

Played 11/6/04 and i waited for 30 minutes, mind you i have a TEE TIME of 12:48, Finally started @ 1:10 PM. The pro shop charge me $79.00, it should have been $49.00 for twilight rate. The customer service needs a major make over. The course is good but not great. A new MGT. should be in place. Will not play this course again. There are much better courses to choose from in San Diego.
