First off I have to get this out of my system. They were having some type of kids tournament (ages 5-10) at Laguna Seca so every kid and their parent was out on the course practicing. Often taking 2-4 shots from each spot and dropping balls around the green to pitch and putt from different angles. I'm all for big tournaments and growing the game with the kids. Just close the course to the rest of us. Let them have it to themselves all day. charge the organization an extra day of facility rental and I'll be happy to go play somewhere else for the afternoon.

What turned out painfully slow but fun to watch some of the little kids who were impressively good, turned out to be downright miserable. Even being at one of my favorite (low key) venues couldn't stop me from wanting

Condition wise, the greens were smooth, but slow. All Fairways had a few thin areas throughout but otherwise were lush. Tee boxes were in good shape as were the Sand traps.

No Beverage cart out which was a shame because I would have emptied it!! And I rarely drink.

Laguna Seca is one of my favorite layouts in the Peninsula. It's hard to believe it's been several months since I've played here. The track has numerous elevation changes with several risk/ reward holes. Three of the par 5's are grip it and rip it and the fourth has two water features that make accuracy and club selection critical.

Course offer plenty of scoring holes yest has a couple monster par 4's like the ninth hole which may be the second toughest par 4 on the peninsula.

Conditions were very nice today. All greens were smooth and rolled true. Greens here are deceptive. There is generally more break than it appears.

Fairways were decent with mostly green coverage and decent lies. There were a few brown and thin areas throughout the course. Tee boxes were much improved over the last time here. They were all level with good lush coverage.

Laguna seca is a great place for a lower cost add when coming to the Monterey peninsula

Laguna Seca is a great track that I always enjoy playing. Course conditions can be hit and miss. Played today and a number of the greens are in bad shape. Still green throughout for the most part but pretty bumpy at times. Also, a handful of the greens are full of disease. Fairways are in good shape and most traps are good but some are thin. Tee boxes are in pretty bad shape right now. Very uneven and full of divots.

Customer service is always friendly. As far as pace of play.... I don't know if it's because I play here as a single more than anywhere else, but it seems like no one will let anyone play through here. Many times including today, I've been stuck behind a twosome or threesome and they won't let me play through. Very frustrating.

But, as I said the track is a blast to play so I'll continue to go back.

As a side note, the elevation changes make it a challange to walk but it's doable.

Well all was not lost. Laguna Seca was just up the street from the Rancho Canada courses. One of my all time favorite courses in CA. Great course for rip/reward and taking chances. Lots of elevation changes (with great views of Monterey and the valley) and I think # 9 (uphill all the way) is one of the toughest holes (IMO) to play. Course was in very good shape and got around in 4 hours. I experienced no tee box issues; bunkers were very playable; rough is a beast and especially the ice plant (hate that stuff); fairways were very nice, good lies and roll all round. Greens were very good and chipped/putted well all round. Nice relaxing restaurant after the round. While we all know of the many GREAT courses in Monterey, this (IMO) is one of RT Jones Sr and Jr courses they have done together (1970) and well worth playing, when in the area. And great customer service.

I may be a bit biased but I love this course. The track is an absolute blast with numerous elevation changes throughout the entire course. Plenty of scoring holes along with enough tough ones to keep you honest. Three of the par 5's have elevated tee boxes and just scream "grip it and rip it"!! The 4th par 5 has two water crossings to bring you back to reality.

Bunkers are hugely improved over the last couple years and now have real nice deep fluffy sand. Fairways are lush with no issues. Tee boxes can be a bit thin at times.

The greens took a beating last year. They just aerated them last month and playing there yesterday I was impressed. They are recovering nicely and should be in the best shape in a long time.

Golf Moose and Costco have deals for $79 (for 2 players w/ cart). For that price the course is ABSOLUTELY worth it. For the $70 + cart rack rate..... There are better options.

Overall, Laguna Seca is a super fun course.

Up on the Monterey Peninsula for a Pebble weekend and tried Laguna Seca again for the first time after possibly 15 years.

Not quite tour conditions. Very much of an average "muni" feel to the place and overall conditions were about the same. Shorter course, somewhat scenic, sort of a compact version of La Purisima.

Got an on-line deal at about $120 with a carts for the foursome, so all-in-all we got what we paid for.

The advertised specials at $79pp plus cart would be too pricey to play this course in this condition.

Another good course in the Monterey area. I wasn't sure as the road holes don't look so interesting. And they're not....but it definitely gets better. Lots of elevation changes, nice looks and a somewhat peaceful experience when you get away from the frontage road which is highway 68. Hole 9 is a real challenge uphill into an afternoon wind. The course is in good condition though I would look for a special as the rack rate is fair but still a little pricey. With all the great golf in this area it's hard to recommend it, but I would as a warmup to some stellar courses in the area.

Played at 8:50am on 12/28/12. Cold and wet conditions due to recent rain, but overall there wasn't a lot of mud or soft spots. The course was under cart path only rules for the day though. Played in under 4 hours, no waiting or slow play.

Fairways- as you would expect for winter season following rain. Wet, but not soggy, and not a lot of roll on the drives. The fairways had very few bare spots, overall condition was a great for winter.

Rough- Great condition also, very wet and tough to get back in play.

Greens- Hit and miss for the conditions. A few greens were great, rolling true, and were actually still very firm. A few greens on the back 9 were heavily marked up and bumpy. The speed of the greens was a little slow but consistent throughout the round.

Tees- Excellent condition, most were level, and no issues with divots.

Overall I would recommend this course, especially for the price compared to others in the area. It is not going to be amazing compared to some of the nearby courses, but it will provide some fun easy holes mixed in with some tough uphill approaches on the back 9. Although the yardage for this course is rather short, it is still challenging and fun. The layout is a back and forth parallel fairway type, so I could see it being a little scary on weekends when the course is full and people are hitting at each other from adjacent fairways.

My second round of the day took me to Laguna Seca. Overall, I was impressed with the quality and conditioning of this course that I didn't know a ton about going into the round.

My second round of the day took me to Laguna Seca. Overall, I was impressed with the quality and conditioning of this course that I didn't know a ton about going into the round.

I got a GN hot deal for only $39 and that was a steal on this course. When I was checking in, the pro shop guy was telling someone else on the phone the going rate then was $89, so I definitely did well there. It's not worth that inflated rack rate, but it was worth every penny of what I paid. I got there early and they let me go out right away. I ran into some groups halfway through the front nine and then joined a twosome for the entire back, which helped make the pace more enjoyable since we were stuck behind a steady flow of groups.

My experience on the course was a tale of two nines. The front nine is a pretty benign and forgiving layout. The conditions were lush and green. Everything was very soft. Fairways nice and fluffy. Greens soft and relatively slow. Rough deep enough to make you work (especially the rough around the greens). Sand was excellent, as well.

Things changed dramatically on the back nine. The sun came out (bringing with it the wind). The layout gets much more interesting and challenging with tighter shots and a more dynamic layout. This side of the course seemed a lot more dried out. Things were much firmer and faster throughout, especially the greens. On the 10th hole, I hit a chip that probably would have come up 10 feet short of the hole on the front nine, but on the 10th it rolled all the way through and off the back of the green. It took some adjusting. The sand was still excellent, though, and the signature Robert Trent Jones (both Sr. and Jr. designed this course together) clover-leaf style bunkers frame all the holes nicely.

All in all, it was a very enjoyable round on a fun course that is in great shape right now. Definitely worth the visit today!
