Played 5-5-19 in a GK outing with Keith and Alex on a very slow Sunday taking about 5 1/2 hours waiting on every shot. Tee boxes were in good shape, lush, level, cut tight and very firm which will probably soften up over time. Fairways were in very nice condition, semi-lush with good roll out and nice tight lies. Rough was lush and in good shape, not to long and easy to hit from. Was in a couple of fairway bunkers that had a good amount of firm sand. Greens were really nice firm with medium pace and rolling smooth. Not a very tough course with wide fairways and large greens, but in great condition and fun to play.

I also played the GK event and had a great time. It was really good to see Johnny again, and meet a couple of new players up here. Being in NoCal, I hope we'll see more events here. Maybe Wente?! As o... Continue »

I also played the GK event and had a great time. It was really good to see Johnny again, and meet a couple of new players up here. Being in NoCal, I hope we'll see more events here. Maybe Wente?! As others have said, the pace of play was 5.5 hrs. That's tough. It makes it very hard to get a rhythm going, though one of my playing partners shot 81. So, he wasn't too bothered. I really like the re-designed layout; lots of angles and different ways to play holes. Personally, I'd like to see more opportunities for bump and run though, similar to what you can do at Blackhorse in Seaside. But, overall fun course. The greens are terrific, running true and in excellent condition. It's the highlight of the course, I believe. Downside, the tee boxes were like cement on certain holes. I actually injured my hand on #15 when I chunked my tee shot and bounced the club off the tee box. Bad shot, but penal result. My hand was swollen for a day. In the end, I'll stick to weekday late afternoons rounds here. I played once earlier and paid $40 to walk and finished in 2hrs 45m. Still, Johnny, great event, great SWAG, and great to see you!

Also part of the GK event 5/5 teeing it up for the first time here at this down under links style. Which I would say is architecturally accurate. Flat and fast fairways with tight lies the norm. Previous reviews of this day are accurate and telling. Conversed with the starter at the turn and she said it was typical for the wind to kick up in the afternoon. It's location on the east side of SF bay supports that and was what we experienced. Busy place and the slow play offset by the company and playing a course for the first time to keep it interesting during waiting. The large greens were immaculate and fair for the design. Where the play maybe to bump an approach in and roll to the pin instead of the high pitch and sticking it. Either skill necessary and productive depending on your angle in.

I will add that the large parking lot is necessary as there is another regulation course (North) here and a par 3 course and a nice driving range some stalls having shade coverings and automatic ball set. The facility was busy as mentioned and the pro shop well stocked. Service great with friendly staff. Beverage cart out seeing it many times.

Service was great. The beer cold, and the food was good. However my reuben sandwich was burnt on the plate side and delivered late as the after round gathering was mostly finished before it got to the table. It was busy in the restaurant all day but slow when we finished.

Great day and recommend as well as the GK event. Sign up for one. It's good FUN! Thanks JohnnyGK nice to have met you and the others and will do it again soon.

I'll get caught up on the rest of my reviews when I'm back home, but wanted to talk about the GK Plays at Corica Park yesterday on the newly renovated South course. The course was just as enjoyable as when we played last year for the grand reopening fiesta. Only drawback this time was the slow 5.5-hour pace as others have mentioned. Otherwise, a good time on a windy afternoon with my GK friends, Alex326 and rgm2525, in the lead group behind the most frustrating and confusing (yet oddly entertaining) twosome ever!

Conditions were excellent. This course is designed to play firm and fast, and that's what you get. Tee boxes a bit too firm (hard to get tee in ground sometimes), but great fairways with generous roll-out and good lies to hit from. I'd like to see them shave down around the greens even more to allow more links-style putting options as the design dictates. Primary cut of rough good and then you want to avoid the deeper fescue and native areas. Greens super firm and rolling well at ideal speeds. Bunkers generally good with super soft sand, except one fairway bunker I was in that was a bit more firm (which I prefer anyway).

Thanks to the staff at Corica Park for having us out on a day when they clearly have no problem getting regular business. The place was packed and it will be even nicer once the North Course is fully renovated by 2021. Bathroom and parking lot renovations would certainly be nice, too : )

Played Corica for the first time ever Sunday afternoon. Pace of play was very slow, over five hours, and it got rather windy later in the day. I liked the layout of the course, with some interesting holes. The greens do not hold, and what ball marks I saw were tiny dents. But my playing partners were great, making the slow play almost bearable. I would love to play the course again on a less crowded, calm day.

Played Corica Park during the GK outing. It was nice to finally get to play this course as I missed the opportunity last year. Conditions of the course were solid all around. Greens rolled at a nice medium speed with some undulations but nothing too severe. Fairways and tee boxes were nice and the sand traps were excellent. And trust me I would know. I was in at least 10 traps throughout the day. All had beautiful soft deep sand. Some had not been raked but that wasn't a real surprise. There were some serious beginners out on the extremely packed course. To the point were the course marshals were calling for backup to help deal with people who were obviously first timers (unless you count their one game of wii golf).

Pace of play was absolutely BRUTAL. It reminded me why I don't play weekend prime time. We easily waited 5-10 minutes on Every shot from the time we walked onto the first tee box to the approach on the 18. It was so bad I often found myself laying up short of the green on Par 4's just so I could hit. Three groups waiting on the tee box was not uncommon.

Conditions were nice but the slow POP would keep me from coming back. At least on the weekend. Maybe midweek might be different and when the sister North course re-opens that will help things out.

Luckily I was with a great group company wise to help minimize the pain of the slow POP.

Rode the Black/Blue combo tees (6645/72.2/127) in 5.5H with Mike, Todd and Peter. The front was a little slow, the back was a crawl. It was usual for the group in front of us to still be on the tee when we arrived. Still a fun round because of the company and the course. The weather was windy, partly cloudy and around 60. Thank to John/GK for a well run outing! Corica Park opened in 1927 and was redesigned in 2018 as a Australian Sandbelt Style layout by Rees Jones. Flat course that features a very generous amount of sand traps to avoid and huge green complexes. I really liked the fun layout. The tees were good, level and well maintained for divots. The fairways were generally good with a few problem areas. Almost always had a decent lie, but not super lush. However, the rough was super lush. Around the fairways/greens, it was thick/consistent. The primary rough was mowed down to a good height and I found it good to play and chip out of. The places that had the native grass that is not regularly maintained needed to be avoided. The sand traps were decently maintained with thick sand/dirt. There are a lot of traps on this course! Loved the way the huge greens ran. Firm, medium fast and smooth. And that was my opinion after a poor putting day where I missed many makeable putts. There were no tiers or tricked up features, but there were large swales to navigate and you could easily have 75-100' putts if on the wrong side of most greens. Huge thumbs up to the redesign. Very fun layout that provided risk/reward holes and especially in the wind, was a good test. Most holes had the option to go low or go high on your shots, few forced carries on this course. Good option for players of all skill levels, seven sets of well spaced tees. Nice GPS on the carts. Very good restaurant on site that was packed. Good food at a decent price and the service was excellent. Definitely recommended.

Played an early morning round on 2/16 on the tail-end of a series of very wet and windy storms that rolled through The Bay Area. The weather was mostly cooperative, but very windy & we had to dodge a few showers during the round. Cart Path Only, but it is a very walkable track, so no worries there.

The course was very playable with no plugs and ample fairway roll out. No lost balls & very little standing water on the course (except for the 5th Tee Box, which was a swamp). The rough was wet & penal, but totally doable. Tee Boxes were in good shape & every bunker I saw was dry & the ones I were in were very playable. The greens were surprisingly firm & fast and definitely the highlight of the course. The only downside is that some of the fairways are very thin & appear to be suffering the effects of a high play-rate. This course gets a TON of play, so hopefully they can keep the conditions up over time.

Overall, I was very impressed with the condition of this course, especially in light of the wet winter we have been experiencing. Definitely recommended if you want to play golf instead of slopping around in the mud looking for plugged balls.
