Played this morning, teeing off about2 10:00 am. They evidently aerated the greens recently, I am guessing two weeks ago. The greens had evident remnants of the holes and were bumpy. They were also pretty fast, not always the best combination. The course is playable now and will be even better in a couple of weeks.

I was told there had been improvements including some new sand traps. The course was lusher than the last time I played. The cart told me that the 16th green recently opened. There were faint lines where I could see turf had been added in strips. It had not been aerated. It looked nice and rolled well. The course still has numerous different kinds of grasses and is s little rough around the edges. Overall, though, it is in good condition. Amazingly enough, we played in about2 4:10 after making the turn almost exactly 2 hours after we started. Much improved pace of play for the past.

Played Saturday, May 17, in mid-morning. They were running about 10 minutes behind when I teed off so hot a huge wait. It has been quite a while since I last played here - at that time one had to drive to the practice center which is next door but has its entrance off Michelson. This time I was allowed to take my cart over there pre-round. Good service overall. I rode at a cost of $103. I played from the blue tees with the threesome I was paired with. It was pretty short with quite a few short par 4s and no par 3 over 167.

The course conditions exceeded my expectations. The course is in good shape over all, much better than the last time I played it. Some bare spots on the edges, especially adjacent holes 1, 17 and 18. Overall, though, the fairways were reasonably lush as was the rough. I was in a couple of bunkers and they had good sand. The tee boxes were generally good although a few were chewed up or with bare spots.

The greens were the highlight. I did not recall how undulating they are. Very interesting and fun. The pin positions were generally fair but it could be set up tough. They were rolling nicely at a decently fast speed.

Overall, a pricey but fun round. Recommended although look for a deal if you can get one.

Greens have healed almost 90%, only downside is the vast amount of unfixed ball marks. Otherwise tee to green course was in good to very good shape. The tee boxes were good, fairways had some brown spots or uneven grass but playable, sand was good and I already mentioned the greens. I would definitely like to play all 18.

Haven't been to RSJ in about 8 months. I swore I would never play there again after abysmal conditions and increased prices. I'm happy to report that they've thrown quite a bit of money into the course and was pleasantly surprised how much the conditions have turned around! Tee boxes were incredible (compared to what it was), fairways had much better coverage (still some bare spots), rough had lots of grass (they growing it out, so it's a little hairy right now), the fringes were all nice, the bunkers have all beautiful new white sand, and the greens were immaculate! New owners have done a nice job making this fun track more enjoyable to play! Much improved!!

Can't recommend the course right now, especially for the price. Bunkers are GUR on about 16 holes? Many fairways and areas in the 10-40 yard range short of the green are GUR on at least half the holes... Continue »

Many fairways and areas in the 10-40 yard range short of the green are GUR on at least half the holes. Only saving grace were the greens, which are usually pretty solid here anyway. $87 to walk on a weekend is ridiculous, probably won't return for a long time.

Had not played here for a while, so was looking forward to returning. The course was kind of what I expected condition wise. Some positives (greens) and some negatives (fairways) I did not have high expectations, so was all that disappointed by conditions. (Plus, I read the last review, so knew what to expect) It was more about geographic proximately than any other reason to play here. I've always enjoyed the layout, some fun holes, but know going in that there will be conditioning issues. However, despite the slower greens and areas which should have been parked GUR, enjoyed the round.

Played Sunday 7:20 tee time. Our riding 3 some joined by a single walker. Easy check in and starter on first tee organizing groups going out. Teed off on time.

Played Sunday 7:20 tee time. Our riding 3 some joined by a single walker. Easy check in and starter on first tee organizing groups going out. Teed off on time.
It's been a while since I've played here but had a good idea what to expect with conditions - it's pretty much always a mixed bag and this day was no exception. Tee boxes mostly level, some better than others, some with good grass, others with grass mixed with some weeds, some pretty thin.
Fairways for the most part had good grass coverage, some mixed with different grasses/weeds. A few had some bare spots, although course is attempting to fix these areas. One thing I don't understand is why they don't rope off the areas being repaired/seeded - there were several divots in these areas - what's the point if golfers are hitting off the seeded/sanded areas. We agreed to move out of the areas being repaired the few times our balls landed there. Be warned - they are putting a lot of water everywhere. Lots of muddy areas and standing water.
I wasn't in any traps, but playing partners were. Greenside bunkers were ok, a little thin but not too bad. A few of the fairway bunkers looked crusty with some weeds.
Greens were in good shape. A little soft/spongy. On the slower side but rolled well.
On hole 12, on cart path, 20 yards from green, cart just stops, and GPS says were in restricted area. On the cart path. WTH? Had to go in reverse all the way to next tee box. Sure the neighbors enjoyed the beeping.
Overall had a good day with good friends and enjoyed playing with the single added to our group, good guy and good golfer. Price is good for OC golf on a Sunday morning. One of our guys plays here often, so I'm sure I'll be back out sooner rather than later.

$82 to play on dirt and mud… the areas that are watered turn to swamp, the rest is dirt. Hit your ball in the middle of the fairway, on dirt.. don’t pay for the cart, you can’t drive it anywhere but the cart path. Over priced, underwhelming. Did I mention the ridiculous pin placements? 2 feet off the edge of circus greens. Today was my last round here.

Out early on an overcast morning. Have to agree with the prior review, that this course has greatly improved over the past several months. Kudos to the maintenance staff for their efforts, as the improvement is very much noticeable. Greens rolled well, decent coverage in the fairways, and most of the tee boxes were so much better than in the past. As always the staff is friendly and accommodating, and for South Orange County, reasonably priced
