Good times today with Solinari619. The course is in good shape. The starting hole is now what used to be the 17th. It got me messed up for some reason, but I recovered and made up for it. Everything seems to be great on the course. For $165/player, it should be. Greens: Medium fast. I could not hit a good putt all day, but they all seemed to roll great. Fairways and rough: There's not a lot of rough, but good grass coverage was to be had everywhere. I never had a bad lie. Bunkers: Nice sand; soft and light. Good bunker conditions. Tees: We played the White tees. All were level and had great turf. Overall: The course is as nice as I remember it; just way more expensive.

Played Oak Quarry on Wednesday, 2/28/24, at 12:08 in a GK Cup 20 match with Cup newcomer Kramnetto2. Course was apparently pretty busy that morning as the shop had no range balls at 11:30am, so no warm-up. Carts are nice but it looks like they’ve removed the ball washer/club cleaner from the carts – too bad.

The course was in decent shape with obvious question marks. After all the rain we had there are still large swaths of fairway that are thin/brown/tight – great for rollout but not so much for lie and playability. Greens had good coverage but needed to be cut and rolled – they looked fuzzy and rolled at just medium pace with a lot of bumpiness. They were fairly firm but held full shots. Most traps were in good shape but on some holes a bunker renovation is underway and you can only chip out or drop outside the bunker – we did the latter.

Most of the lakes are now full and there were no bird problems. Pace of play was slow and we finished in just under 5 hours – I don’t recall seeing any course employees out on the course. The interactive GPS message wants you to use the drop zones on the tough par-3 7th hole, but there were no marked drop zones anywhere on the hole. I went into the shop just before tee-off and again when we finished with questions/comments, but no one was around either time.

Love OQ but would like to see a tighter ship and improved conditions.

Played here today with a 12:24 "Deal" time from TeeOff.com. Got an amazing price after promo code one day prior. Checked in early and the starter said he could get me started early, but then he disappeared (never saw him again) and then ended up starting about 5 minutes late, paired with another single and behind an extremely slow foursome. Luckily that foursome waved us through on the second tee and we finished right before dark with a total POP of a little over 4.5 hours.

Conditions are mixed. The course looks fantastic, with lush overseeded rye rough giving an overall "green" appearance. Fairways are dormant and provide lots of run-out, although on many holes, the dormant grass transitions to lush grass about 50 yards short of the green. It reminds me of the conditioning sometimes at Rustic Canyon. The dormant parts of the fairway are pretty thin and even have some dirt patches. The rough is probably the best conditioned part of the course, ranging from about 3 inches deep to some nastier stuff around bunkers and farther offline. The greens were a little weird. They're not in bad condition, but they're a bit wobbly. I'm wondering if it's that they haven't been able to properly mow them short since the rains earlier this week. They are soft, accepting of full shots, and around medium speed. Some greens also have some imperfections. I suspect the greens will be a bit better after a few more days of no rain. Tee boxes were mostly good but one or two were overgrown a bit. The bunkers I was in were great, although players could have raked them a little better. The fairway bunker on the left side of the par-4 6th currently seems to be under construction. It seems like they've put down a new liner but haven't added any sand yet. A couple holes were CPO, but not a huge deal.

Today's partly cloudy weather made everything really beautiful and provided even more dramatic views than normal at this beautiful layout. Had a great time and got a steal of a deal. If I'd paid their sky-high rack rates, it would be a little different story.

played late morning mid week. course is coming out of overseeding, so not prime conditions right now but still very playable. check in was friendly and easy. miss it when the had someone driving to the parking lot to pick up your clubs, but i guess that doesn't really happen anywhere any more. many tee boxes were closed and both blues and whites were close to where the closer white box would have been so the course played pretty short. boxes still needed to be mowed and were somewhat uneven. fairways were in good condition grass wise, but there were a lot of brown grass patches in the fairway where there are usually none. rough and greenside rough could be grown out really high like 4 inches, or mowed down, pretty inconsistent. a lot of mowing was going on during the round. putts were medium slow and pretty bumpy, but no sand. bunkers, as usual here, were a disaster. always the worst part of this course. POP was 5 hours with cart path only and a slow playing husband and wife in front of the group. pace was painful, but this is always one of the most picturesque courses in the area, especially since the round took so long we got off 18 near sunset.

Got out this 8/31 afternoon as a single, teeing off around 3:00 from the whites. Playing a two-club wind, the conditions were very nice overall. Fairways were in good shape and rolling out nicely, while the greens were mostly clean, playing the quick end of medium. The weak point here is usually the bunkers and I played out of two: front green-side on the seventh hole and right fairway on the 14th. The first was pretty nice and the second was like a parking lot. The foursome ahead finally let me through on the 10th and I finished a bit under 3.75 hrs. Pro shop gave the heads up that there was no beverage cart or halfway service, nor was there water except for the bathroom faucets. Not optimal, but at least I knew, so I was prepared (know before you go?). Beautiful day and I always enjoy getting a chance to play here. Still recommended.

Back out to my favorite SoCal public track early on 8/8/23. Standing out on the new #1 tee, you get a beautiful view of #1 and #2. Immaculate conditions. Beautiful grass. Pristine white sand bunkers. And they got me. After #2 reality sets in. The owners and/or staff just do not care. Once you are past #2, half the bunkers have sand, half are being completely ignored. If they do have sand, it is a historical relic and not an active attempt to maintain a functioning sand trap. They haven't been groomed in forever, and definitely have not been raked my maintenance in any recent fashion. Most are just filled with footprints, if the staff doesn't care, why should the players? I rated the bunkers as a 2, and that is being generous because I did get up and down from 2 of 3 today. Sounds great, but you have to play the ball up in the sand - it just is not fair otherwise. And as for the bunkers filled with weeds, you just have to move it to a spot where you can hit it and not break a wrist. And if you are playing with forged irons - just take it out of the bad bunkers and save yourself some rock dings. As for the rest of the course, tees and rough is fine. Greens were not good today. Non-invasive aeration, very spongy, not been rolled in a long time - they were very inconsistent and bumpy. Great layout. It could be (and should be) an amazing experience. But it is not.

Generally speaking, this is still one of the better courses in the area. When the guy at the desk said that the green fee was $94 on a weekday, I aked him if the course was in pristine condition for this price. He said it was. It wasn't. This is premium pricing but not a premium golf course. There were just too many cases where I had to declare my lie unplayable. At least half of the bunkers meet this description. I like to play by the rules of golf and when I have to remove my ball from the bunker and set it on grass, I'm essentially forced to cheat due to poor maintenence. Not what I expect for $94. Spending $10-15 on gas just to get there doesn't help matters either. These bunkers are full of weeds and have seen no maintenence in years. Don't even try to blame this on COVID. There were also too many grass areas that were burned out or bare. Finally, I'd suggest comparing the GPS numbers to your range finder. There were many discrepencies. Try making the needed repairs before jacking up the rates. I'll post pictures in the photo section.

Paid $90 to play a course with no sand in bunkers, but plenty of weeds in the bunker. Greens rolled slow. The driving range was beat up. All things I would expect from a $50 muni, but not for $90. The course has changed the hole lay out, but not bothered to move the tee box markers. I would suggest a leadership change because the bones are good.
