I never thought a course would be worth a $110.00 dollars.I was wrong this course is paradise. The best course I have ever played from star to finish. The only place I played with a better course was in Thailand. I found my new favorite course. Just heaven.

Played today with my wife. I am a 14 handicap; she is an average player; here are my thoughts:

CONDITIONS:
tee boxes: fine, a few divots, but otherwise good shape
fairways: very good. Still surprised how many players refuse to sand their divots at even the nicest courses. I used an entire canister on hole #6 while walking up the fairway.
greens: very nice. Rolled a bit fast, but uniform and even from 1-18. Lots of tough reads due to swales and slopes on green; i must have lipped 5-6 putts today. I really enjoyed the torture.

STAFF: top notch from bag drop to range to pro shop to marshals to cart girl. they treated us respectfully and with promptness all day.

PRACTICE AREA: maybe the best I've ever seen. Multiple putting greens; driving range was pricey ( i still get bothered when expensive courses don't include a bucket of balls with the green fee, but oh well).

COURSE DIFFICULTY: not a tough course at all. The landing areas are VERY generous. I played from the "gold" tees (what would be 'blue' tees at most courses) and hit 12 of 14 fairways, which is certainly above my average. Very playable track from tee to green, but 35 putts was way too many. I should have scored better, but that's my fault not the course.

VALUE: We only paid half price thanks to a gift certificate so it made it worthwhile. Can't say I'd ever pay full price, but if I ever could find a way to pay less than $100 I'd go back.

OVERALL: good track, not difficult for players of most skill levels...slightly overpriced, but solid customer service and the attention to conditions was impressive.

Played Fri 3/14. I don't normally play high end courses unless I am invited or play a charity tournament. A friend treated me to a round. Oak Creek was gorgeous, lush, and challenging. All areas of the course were in tip-top shape. Tee boxes were level, lush, with only a couple of divots. The fairways were lush, rolled well, and had some divots on 4 holes that were cart path only. The greens were super, lush, and rolling fast, with some surprizes. The first cut of rough was around 2 inches, and the rough itself varied from some patchy areas to kikuyu that was 7-8 inches long. Hard to find balls, and punishing to get out of. The bunkers were wet so the sand was slightly packed, hard to tell if it's fluffy unless it dries out, some footprints unraked (Yea, even on a high end course, go figure). The staff was friendly, and attentive, from the bag drop to the starter to the marshals, there were maintenance crews around, cutting grass and greens, and fixing some plumbing but they stopped working when players came by so as not to interfere with shots, Gracias Muchachos. The food was OK, but very pricey $37 for continental bkfst and eggs benedict. A great 9 approaching 10.

Played Saturday (2/16) in about 4.5 hrs. Every part of the course is in great shape, greens, fairways, service and the marshalls who get after slow groups. Thank you. Until the end of the month it's $110.00 on the weekends with Players Club card, not to bad for the OC.

The greens are a SOB,, fast, tricky,fast, todays pin placements were very tough,, just the way we like them. Fairways are perfect, lush, wide, mowed perfectly. Very professional staff.... right now they have a $75 weekday fee,,,if you are tired of being treated like livestock at the muni,, go to Oak Creek..... Very nice.... We hope to return soon.

Rough is, well, rough... In any event, fun and fairly long layout. Pace of play is great as always. In any event, I would say give them some time to overseed and the weather to cool off before spending the money on a round here.

Was able to walk on at 2:30 on Sunday 8/12/07. There was no one on this course and i was paired with another single. The other single was local and his help came in handy since I was playing from the back tees. The player I got paired with indicated that he plays frequently here and said that just about a month ago there wasn't a brown spot on the course. When we played it seemed like there was numerous brown spots but it was weird because they seemed to be watering the hell out of the course. But I don't think the brown spots really affected the play but just rather the beauty of the course. I will say the rough was very think in spots and in fact sometimes I couldn't go for the green from the fairway. I actually liked this course but thought this wasn't worth the $125 that I paid. Played in less than 4 hours.

I have heard so many good things about Oak Creek, but have never gotten around to playing it. I did yesterday (8/14). My review will be "mixed" at best.

I have heard so many good things about Oak Creek, but have never gotten around to playing it. I did yesterday (8/14). My review will be "mixed" at best.

Let me begin by letting you hear of the comments of the three fine gentlemen I played with:

"Cheese, I'm sorry. I've never seen this place looking this bad."

"This golf course is in trouble."

"It's never looked as bad as this..."

Well, since I had never played it in the past - I had nothing to go on as a comparison. I'll let you know what I DID see - and - I have to admit - it was not pretty.

Many LARGE dead areas in the middle of the fairways. And, not just "dead grass" in the fairways - but dead, hard-pan, sun-baked adobe brick fairways. There's no excuse for this. It's a great track with a very cool and challenging layout - - but, that's the kind of stuff I'd expect to see at a poorly-run muni - not in the middle of O.C. And for $90.00 (that's what I paid) - I would expect better.

The worst offender: The #1 handicap hole (#6) must have had a half-acre of dead, hard-pan dirt right in the middle of the fairway.

Now, as for the greens...I thought they were O.K. My friends who play Oak Creek all of the time said they were running about 50% slower than they are used to - and - about 1/2 the normal break was evident. I found them tricky, but - they rolled true. There was still a lot of sand on the greens - so that could account for a lot of that. The greens held all shots well...high shots could barely get out of their own divot - some shots actually plugged in place. Overall, the greens were the best part, I thought.

I was only in one sand-trap (greenside) all day. The sand was high-quality and there seemed to be a lot of it.

The pace of play was just fine - we got around in 4.0 hours - no complaints there.

Oak Creek has to have one of the best practice areas I've ever seen (although $10.00 for the smallest bag o' balls was a bit sttep, I thought!) Grass hitting area for the range, shipping greens, practice bunkers - this place has it all.

Service was good. The only comments we got when we complained about course conditions was that hopefully the Fall drilling and overseeding will take, and they can get Oak Creek back to its former glory.
