Back in 2019, this place played as good as any course around. Conditions were mint. Unfortunately, since then, and with covid, it has been on a slow decline. Fairways and tee boxes are really beat up. Places where they have ground under repair don't look much different from the rest of the fairway. Rough is super spotty. Greens were decent but lots of ball marks. Sand traps were good. I love the layout and the staff is super friendly but for now, hard to recommend.

Played this AM as first off. Wow was it cold. Never warmed up until we finished after 3 H. Cart path only for the front 9. Check in fast and courteous. No food/beverage available early AM. Covid rules in effect around the clubhouse, putting green and driving range. Carts have a very nice GPS system. Course is in very nice shape. Tee boxes all clean/playable. Fairways are green and provide very nice lies and roll. Traps are not in the best of shape (but that seems to be everywhere). Very little rough to deal with. Greens are nice and they are fast. One of my favorite courses in the LA basin. Wish it was closer. Recommended.

Walked the Golds (6381/70.4/125) with Jesse in 4H, 15M twilight. Clear, windy and around 70. $27 to walk after noon was a good price. First time here in over 3 years. SH is a fun layout to walk and play with few tees far from the last green. Front is hilly, back is flat with tree lined fairways plus a few lakes to keep you interested. Most tees decently maintained, good coverage with few unfixed divots except for the par 3's. Kikuyu fairways were playable. Winter thin with a few bare areas. Kikuyu rough hit and miss, not overly tall but often the uncertainness of what you will get is the penalty. Sand traps decently maintained with medium to large grain brown sand. Greens were excellent. Medium fast and firm, downright fast on downhillers. They held approach shots. Customer service was excellent as usual. Saw the drink cart gal several times today. Nice practice putting green that is very comparable to the on course greens, small practice chipping area. Decent driving range with mats 5/7 days. Excellent club repair facility beside the driving range that is usually manned. Medium difficulty course almost always in good condition @ reasonable prices. Recommended.

Teed off at Simi Hills at 11:40am Monday, 10/5. Pace of play was 4 hours 20 minutes. We waited on every hole. The course was "Covid" packed. I call it this, because since Covid it's very difficult to get a good tee time and a lot more people are playing golf during the week. Overall the course is in good, not great, shape. I haven't played here in several months, and the course has digressed some from that time. The tee boxes are OK. Some are unlevel and quite thin. But stick a tee in the ground and you're fine.

The fairways are a mixed bag. The front nine fairways are thin, with some bare, dry areas, and some nicely padded grass. Some of the holes on the back nine were much more lush. Overall, the fairways are quite playable but range from lush to bare, but mostly are adequate. I was in 2 greenside bunkers. One had crusty sand and the other was a little less crusty. Both had enough decent sand to get out just fine. By the way, the bunkers DID HAVE rakes in them. This is the first I've seen this.

The greens were punched a couple of weeks ago. For the most part they ran smooth and at medium to medium/fast speeds. Some greens were a little bumpy and did affect your putt. But not too bad. The greens were soft and receptive. Other than the slower pace of play, I enjoyed the round. I do recommend.

I played on Friday 7/3/2020 and had a very enjoyable time. We teed off at 6:20am and never waited on a tee and were never pushed although they stuck to their 10 minute intervals. We finished at 9:50am, before it even began getting hot.
The course in general is in very nice shape. Tee boxes are all level with no bare spots and were nicely taken care of. Fairways were also vey nice, few bare spots at all and was nicely taken care of. The greens were receptive and true and actually a bot faster than I would have expected at such an early time in the day.
If there was one complaint it would be the sand traps. They are very shallow, small pebbles throughout and although the rakes are out now, very few are using them.
My last thought is that now that I'm 60, the weekday rates are fantastic. Playing 18 holes on this type of course for less than $40 is as good as it gets!

Played Simi Hills with RGM2525 the other day, so I'm just going to add a snippet to his spot-on, concise review. (Can you tell we've been watching too much Downton Abbey?) Very nice conditions all around, pretty much as he described. He mentioned the greens were slower than he likes, but he plays at a high level and likes greens running around 12 — very quick. I'd guess they were running around at least 9-no-more-than-10 — still a pretty quick speed for the more average golfer and I liked them. So no contradiction to the previous report, just a clarification so you can set expectations accordingly. No cart service but otherwise good service all around. Nice course in good condition and got a good senior walking rate to boot. Glad we picked it for our match and definitely recommended.

Played 5-28-20 with T8fish, joined by another twosome teeing off around 2:15 and finishing in a little under 4 1/2 hours for $31 walking. Tee boxes were in good shape, mostly level with good coverage.... Continue »

Played 5-28-20 with T8fish, joined by another twosome teeing off around 2:15 and finishing in a little under 4 1/2 hours for $31 walking. Tee boxes were in good shape, mostly level with good coverage. Fairways were green and lush with decent roll out and nice lies. Rough was in good shape, not to long and easy to hit from. Was in three greenside bunkers all of which had very nice brown sand. Greens were in really good shape, rolling smooth and holding shots, but a little slow for my tastes. Overall course was in really nice condition .

Spent Friday afternoon at Simi Hills with kviser for our GK Cup match. His review of course conditions is very accurate and covers all the bases.

Great coverage in the fairways, pretty thick rough in places, very nice tee boxes, decent bunkers and nice coverage on the medium-fast greens which held shots well. POP was better than expected as we had what seemed to be a very slow group in front of us, but the clock at the end of the round did not lie.

The driving range was open which was nice and the snack shop was open, too. Check-in was pretty simple with a window open to the starter's office, and in order to get a cart, you need to tell them you have some physical ailment, which I did because of my recurring back issue, but it was no problem at all.

Simi Hills is always a super fun option and one of the best values in SoCal. It's a very enjoyable layout with a lot of variety and its solid conditions right now make it a must-visit.

Played here today with roarksown1 as part of the GK Cup 15. Check in was quick and easy. We both used the driving range. Not a lot to add to the previous review. Good overall conditions. Mostly lush grass everywhere with a few exceptions in the rough and beyond.

POP was 4.5 hours. Great beverage cart service; we saw her a few times. I paid $24 to walk at 1:40 p.m.

Greens were medium fast. No a lot of ball marks. I liked them, but I was hitting good putts all day.

Fairways were lush, cut nicely, and had decent roll. I saw very few areas that had divots that needed filling. It's mostly kikuyu and Bermuda here, so it was a nice mat of turf to hit from.

Rough was very penal in some areas; if you were somewhat lucky, you had a good lie with your ball sitting up. Many times my ball seemed to sit down and it was a challenge to get good contact. Also, shots from the rough seemed to be under trees or had uneven lies which made it more difficult.

Tees were good. We played the Gold tees, similar to Blues at 6381 yards. No problems at all to find a level lie. Good turf coverage and not a lot of divots, even on the par 3's.

Bunkers needed some raking, but due to C19, we all have to deal with the footprints. I was in a couple and it wasn't bad. Mostly, I struggled due to my abilities to hit from the sand.

Overall, I like this course and now I know I can walk for $24, I think I will return soon.
