Played this past weekend in the Oxnard City Championship....and may I say, I have never seen this course in such great shape. The greens were smooth pure and lightning fast! I talked to Kyle, one of the supers, and he said he stimped the greens at 14.7 first thing in the morning! All the pin locations were tucked, but i didnt see any that seemed unfair or stupid to me. Course was very challenging but I had a great time and I cannot wait to play this course again.

Out for a super twilight round today 7/6/2012 3:30pm tee time playing blue tees. I cannot rave enough about this course and how good the conditions are. Its a brute of a course at almost 6900 yds + wind. I played a terrific round and eeked out a 74...very tough parkland layout with wind, hilly terrain, water and plenty of sand bunkers. Conditions are just awesome right now on the Lakes course. The best conditions I have seen here ever. Greens firm, fast, lush beautiful green color and rolling very nicely. They have really come into form. Fairways lush with beautiful lies throughout and just thick enough to get ample roll from drives. Rough is perfect length and semi-lush 1-2 inches lining the fairways. Fringes lush and green and consistent from green complex to green complex. Tees level and lush. Sand looks firm but enough sand to splash out with no issues. Pace of play is always great here...my buddy and I were paired with two slow golfers and still finished 30 minutes before dark. For 16 bucks if you get the 1st couple super twilight times it will be the best 16 bucks you ever spent...great job River Ridge!

I have developed a soft spot for this track - maybe it's the 'linksy' appeal to my Scottish roots. There's not much tree trouble on this course as its young, so it's all about roll/terrain/bounce around here. But I reckon an equally strong factor is that it's a great example of how a reasonably-priced, public facility can and should be run (and how it can play, too).

Right now I would have a hard time being critical of much here. Although conditions were a bit soft to start as I teed off early, once the overnight moisture had dried up I thought the course was playing exactly as intended and how I like 'em - firm and fast. Tees are level and lush - fairways are green with cushy lies (I think it's dwarf bermuda thru the green). Rough is noticeable but still playable - perfect for public golf. It gets your attention and makes you consider the consequences, but a good shot from it will help you recover. Well managed length and condition.

Sand - perfect.

As in the past, the real treat here, I think, is on/around the greens. Although slower to start, once the sun burned off the dew the greens speeded up considerably and ran true and mainly smooth (easy to say after an 11 putt front nine). I would estimate they got up to arond 10.5 - 11 by 11 am. Fringes were immaculate and easy to putt from rather than chip. Both were actually quite grainy which added a nice element (easy to see and read from the light/dark colorations you could see in both - dark or matte = into/light or shiny = with you therefore faster).

As I mentioned before, it's a stout test at nearly 6900 from the blues - especially when the sea-breeze kicks up later in the day. If I lived close by this would by my regular for sure.

Also, LOTS of marshals around! And they do their jobs - how original! What a concept! Stunning. Why doesn't anyone else think of that?

So pace was below 4 hours easy as a four behind another 4 - and nothing gnarly to deal with. That was easy. Perhaps others should marshall similarly? Just saying.

All in all for 50 bucks weekend prime time I think this is a steal and hard to beat anywhere.

I say well done RR golf club. Tip of the hat all around.

Played Tues 6/19 at 2:35. Great pace of play as they let us out as a twosome, we did not see the folks in front of us until the 13 hole. Finished in about 3 1/2 hours. This layout is a lot of fun with elevation changes, water, doglegs and lots of forced carries. The condition of this golf course is fantastic right now with some of the lushest, greenest fairways in the area. Greens were sanded but rolled nicely. Overall great experience and I will be back soon.

Pros- Course was the greenest I have ever played it. Amazing fairways, great pace of play, super reasonable... This course is my fav in the Ventura/Oxnard area and probably my favorite local track...
Cons- Verticut and slightly sanded greens, wish they would have told me before hand but in all honesty, not to much affect on the role or the reception of the ball... Bunkers need some more sand in places.
Play this course, its a gem and a challenge and fun for all.

played on june 7th morning. Second round of the day(soule park early morning). Course conditions is in great shape and probably will get better in the next month or so(city championship mid july). Greens were smooth, fairways nice and manicured, tee boxes leveled and the rough was about 1-3 inches. Pace of play was slow due to 4 groups ahead of us being 2 holes behind. Still the round took about 4 and half hours.

Had a great time Sat 6/2 playing the Lakes course and watching the Kings go up 2-0 afterwards go Kings...lol. We played super twilight and were let out just before our 3:30pm tee time. Walking this course on the weekend for 16 bucks is a steal and probably one of the best super twilight deals around you are going to get for your money. Staff inside pro-shop very nice as well as the starter. Range is chewed up and a mess. They have a putting green right by the 1st tee. The layout on this course is amazing and one of the better layout's in Ventura County. We played the Blue Tees at almost 6900 yds and my suggestion to someone that wants a challenge is to just play the new black tees as most of the teeing grounds only have around 5-8 yds difference between blue and black tees. There are only around 3-4 holes though that have a significant difference. This is a hilly parkland layout with windy conditions(usually) and several lakes, sand bunkers and hazards in play. Each hole is different and unique and holes such as #2 and #8 provide a nice challenge to any player. The conditions of the fairways were the best I have ever seen on this course. They are green, semi-lush with perfect lies. They are not rated a 10 for me but I would rate them at least an 8.5. The tees were beautiful semi-lush and more importantly mostly all of them were level. The greens were in good shape and rolling fairly pure, some minor slow bumps but overall in good shape. They were holding any type of iron shot. The sand was soft, wet in some spots with some clay-like material. Very good bunkers here. I was in 6 of them unfortunately but nobody in our group had any buried lies. The rough was around 1-2 inches and could grab your club in some situations. I personally love the back nine here. You get to chew on 3 par 5's from #12 on which I love. Our foursome walked the course in 3 hours and 40 minutes and were pushed by a twosome that hit up on us on #8 green. After a stern warning by one of my buddies to back off they stopped the nonsense. He basically stated that we just played 8 holes in 1 hour 30 minutes. Marshall was out today keeping the nice pace of play which most courses do not enforce. Well done River Ridge...your course is a gem and just love the layout...will be back for sure.

Played Saturday 5/12. This track is one of my favorites and even though the greens were punched just 10 days ago, I was pleasantly surprised. Wait a month and this place will green up and play tough as usual. New back tees are awesome. Fairways are a bit dormant but not a big deal. Greens, as stated, were punched but coming in full. They do all their maintenance at one time in a 10 day window and that is now, so buyer beware but in 5 days, its going to be lush again.

More marshalls out here than golfers. And some of them do their job! Overall, conditions were fair - generally in a "winter" state still.

Fairways - thin, tight and dormant still. Ditto rough (which is mainly low or non-existent). Fringes around greens mainly immaculate. The greens themselves were fairly speedy but with lots of poa now sprouting in them, so they didn't run all that true and had a few bumps here and there. Sand was fluffy and full everywhere (and I got to try it 5 times today!).

Course is a stout test (more so when it's windy) - especially on/around greens.
