Played the Victoria Lakes Course at River Ridge Golf Club this afternoon and had a blast despite a howling NW wind. I heard the greens were coming back from some issues of a couple months ago and I’m happy to report they have recovered. They do have some patches of poa in the predominately bent surfaces but the poa did not affect the smoothness of the greens to any large extent. The greens were slower then in the past but still played nicely holding shots well and holding the lines. The fairways were in good shape and recovering very well from what looked to be some deep verticuting. They were applying or had applied a lot of green dye fertilizer so I will not be surprised if the fairways continually improve as time passes. As of now, the fairways are already providing great lies. The rough was short and dormant. The sand traps were excellent with high quality sand and well maintained. The Tee Boxes level and mostly lush (also treated with green dye fertilizer). NOTE: The fertilizer was NOT rubbing off on my clubs or shoes.

Overall I liked the condition of the course. As for the layout, I teed it up from the blue stones and feel this course is certainly UNDER rated. While I agree with the 130 slope, 72.3 from the blues should be more like a 73.3. The tee shots are very demanding with OB and water hazards on most holes. The greens are extremely undulating, large and well protected. I’ve played Olivas Links and Rustic Canyon from the tips and the Lakes RR is just as tough…maybe tougher. What I love about the layout is not so much the challenge, but the variety. Hilly, Level, Elevated Tees, Doglegs, Long/Short par 3’s, trees, water, OB’s, forced carries, large undulating greens, tight fairways, wide open fairways…the course is VERY interesting on every shot. (see photos). Also, it seems most golfers at RR are playing the easier Vineyards course leaving a lot of space for a FAST round on the Lakes. Longball23 and I where hitting practice shots/putts all day and still finished in just over 4 hours. We could have easily got around in under 4.

The think RiverRidge is a great golf experience and recommend it to anyone. (BTW – try the breakfast burrito in the grill…very tasty!)

Have not played here in a while...teed it up this afternoon 3/8 from the tips. Course was playing tough today with very strong cold winds. I was very impressed with the fairways here. They actually spray painted most of the them with a greenish color and they had some nice grass and bounce to them. I did not have one bad or thin lie in any fairway that I was in today(very nice). The greens were in good shape and much slower than they I remember them at the Lakes course. They rolled true but slow for my taste. They were holding approach shots wonderful. The tees were very level and had enough grass under them to hit. The bunkers were all raked and were in good shape. The rough was not to penal and was cut short. The layout of the lakes course is very strong and I always enjoy playing here. Pace of play was great today, marshall's and starter very friendly. I will be back.

1st tee time- got around fine for a weekday. As usual for RR, conditions perfect. All fairways should be this good- country club carpet. Great lies. Plenty of sand in bunkers. Greens new- inconsistent speeds. As for the layout...was expecting more. 1&2 are old 15 & 16 toughened up. 3& 4 are first new holes, and wonderful top of the hill layouts. Was expecting more of this. 5 is downhill par five opening remaining holes to a flat, boring see all the holes layout. Ordinary. 10 is fine par 5 isolated. 15 is nice short par 3 but prepared for steep walk up to tee from the flatlands described earlier. 16 is top of hill par 4 running along with 3/4, more of what I liked. 17 was old 17, except now
too long. Loved old 135 hole it used to be. 18 is old 18 a little longer.

Overall, what was the once original 18 holes, a fun course to play even with the funky down/up 1st was completely screwed up in the first remodel of the Vineyards. This new 18 does not enhance. The old RR was a fine track. Many of the original holes were ruined. No desire to return. Too bad. Will stick to Los Robles, Rustic out this way.

This was the first time I played the Lakes, and I enjoyed it much more than I expected. I thought the holes were very interesting and very "playable" I had a lot of difficulty with the greens. (Left myself on the wrong side of the hole due to no local knowledge) This a very scoreable course, althought I did not score well. (Too many 3 putts) The overall condition the course was excellent. Given the newness of the course, it played much more "mature" than I expected.

Played as part of a company tournament. This was my first time on Victoria Lakes, although I've played Vineyard many times. This is a totally different course. Lots of water and trouble everywhere. Once you clear the first 2 holes, this is no bombers paradise. Accuracy with precise distance is required, along with some serious course management. If it's your first time, bring plenty of extra balls. The wind was blowing which makes a tough course even tougher, so unless you a a solid single digit and can consistently and accurately hit the ball a really long way, check your ego at the clubhouse and play from the Whites. It was common to have to play as much as 3 extra clubs hitting into the wind. Short is almost always bad here, and being above the hole consistently brings 3 putts into play. Local knowledge is worth a few strokes on this course. The greens were lightning fast and super smooth. The whole course was in great shape, and I can't wait to play it again. If there's no wind.

Out early July 19th for the O-city tournament. Clearly, RR management takes a great deal of pride with this event. From the winter/spring conditions [diseased greens, thin fairways] an incredible improvement into a great course. The club championship is this weekend and sounds like [previous post] the course is holding its own. On the 19th, the greens were running about 12 and the pin placements were just plain tough. On that particular day would estimate 5 strokes harder than a ‘normal’ Sunday layout; if you want to try a course set up a bit more on the edge this weekend will be your chance out at ‘Vicky.

Played RR Lakes course this afternoon 7/20 twilight from the tips with Robstretch. Course was in good shape. Micro-punch on greens did not effect putting at all...greens in good shape and rolling quick. Fairways were a little bit dryer than last time I played here about 3 weeks ago but still were in good shape with some grass sitting underneath your club. The sand was in decent shape and the tee boxes were in nice shape and mostly all of them were level. We had some wind today and the pace of play was excellent. We rode and finished in just 3 hours 35 minutes. Lakes course is still the better and more enjoyable layout in my mind but might check out the Vineyard course next door.... from the looks of things as it looked very lush and green.
