I went to Cal State Northridge and played Knollwood many times. The starting hole if I parred it was not like I made birdie, but eagle! It is that tough. You have OB down the entire right side. I had many unplayables against the driving range fence. On the left is a hill where you think the ball would kick back into the fairway but rarely does. There are also trees on this embankment. If you find the fairway the second shot is actually tougher than the drive. You are hitting uphill on an uneven lie. Even if a blast leaves you 150 yards out (nope never had 150 from the blues)the green is soo tiny that Hitting this green in regulation would even make a tour player happy. After bogey or double here the 2nd hole at Knollwood is a nasty dogleg left uphill par5. Staying out of bogeyville on these first two holes is nearly impossible. At nearby Hansen Dam, the first hole may be the easiest. It is a downhill wide open 375yard par 4.

I think one of the MANY reasons I don't like Knollwood is that they put their best hole as #1 - after that it's all downhill!

QUOTED  Monarch Dunes #1 is an absolute brute

True. I remember that used to be Hole 10. Nasty stuff. However, isn't MD in Central CA?
QUOTED  Before they switched the nines at DeBell - I would put that hole as the hardest.

I can agree with that. Similar problems as Knollwood #1.

I am honestly surprised no one has mentioned the opening hole at Barona Creek. Slightly uphill 541 yard par 5 with a giant oak tree 70 yards from the green that seems to play right into my second/third shot. #3 handicap hole right off the bat!

I can guarantee no more than 9 iron was hit into that green. 5w or 3iron and a wedge seems most likely.
