There is talk going around that the North side of Los Serrano's is up for sale and might be closing for townhomes. One of the Clerks in the pro shop (which I know all to well) disclosed to me that the Los Serrano's is having financial woe's and that this issue has been discus.

That would be a shame ... which of the two courses - north or south - is generally considered 'superior?' I've played both but only in scrambles, never as a regular round. May need to rush job this one then ...

I heard that they plan on selling part of the land and making one course and it will be private.
This was just something a random playing partner told me so I have no way to confirm it.

That sucks.

Golf courses are getting to be the only large piece of available land out here, so developers will pay. It's a shame they can't acquire old run down neighborhoods and redevelop those, but that would take much more $$$ and work.

I can't see the private option working, Vellano was right there, was a great track when new, and failed miserably.

South is generally considered better, but not significantly so.

For many years I considered South vastly superior, but I've grown to really enjoy North, too.

Their website says North has been around since 1925. That would be a shame to see it closed right before its centennial.

South probably more challenging, but the North is a very fun layout to play.

The goal has always been long and straight! But since I can no longer hit them long, hopefully straighter could be achieved more than occasionally?

Sadly golf is heading toward the goal of being a very upper class sport....public golf is heading toward the $50 minimum green fee and MOST of the public courses in Southern California can not bring in enough players at that price to survive...It takes two hands to count the number of public courses closed in the last 10 years and many are up for sale right now, Arrowhead Country club, Hemet Golf Club, Cross Creek, Links at Summerly...I belong to 3 senior men's golf groups and all 3 are full of over 60 men that will not pay $50 no matter what course. All golf companies are now only going after the more upper class players, balls, clubs, shoes, shirts etc. all priced at huge markups because the players with money will spend. A good example is PXG, they started right out selling only to high end players, and they are making it? Not a shock to hear them wanting to close one of the courses, what would be amazing is if they even keep one open. Three years from now we may be waiting two weeks or more to get a tee time we can afford at El Prado or Cresta Verde.

Is this true in different states and not just out here in the west? I don't travel much and also do not play as much as many others here, but in September of last year, I had a chance to play Bethpage black for $120 for NY state visitors (walking only). I was pleasantly surprised to know it because Torrey Pines South is over $200 (and I think that's also walking) for San Diego visitors (and not the state of California).

Unfortunately it's true, I was just informed that the North will close. Playing the South tomorrow, will verify

Good news, verified by Los Serranos - the North course is NOT closing anytime soon, and no plans to do so.
