Had a chance to play out here yesterday as I started making my way back home. Even though I grew up nearby and visit the area often, it's a course I hadn't played yet until now. It is a semi-private club that's generally open to the public in the afternoons on most days. I booked a 12:04 time as a single. $40 rate with cart very reasonable. I thought it was going to be much more based on the rates listed on their website. Unfortunately, I ended up being a single right after a foursome and a fivesome (all members). I was ultimately able to play through both groups and another much slower group ahead only played 9 holes, so it opened up a lot on the back nine. Total pace of just over 3 hours was excellent. The course is in great shape overall. Tee boxes excellent and fairways extremely lush and nice throughout. Either they hadn't got as much rain here during the week as up north or the course drains better. Though still soft, things weren't nearly as mushy as I had gotten used to in Portland. Main areas of rough were lush, but not too penal. Outer edges and under trees the grass coverage gets spottier. The greens were soft and rolling smooth/true at medium speeds. The bunkers were perfect and all clearly fluffed up by maintenance in the morning. I really enjoyed the course. The front nine is flatter and more of an old school parkland kind of layout with some water hazards in play and then the back nine is more target golf with some hillier terrain, narrower angles and bigger doglegs through the trees. Definitely one of the better courses in Southern Oregon. Also, I should note that holes 5 and 6 are currently playing to temporary greens, which is kind of a bummer as the 6th is probably the most interesting hole on the front nine. A sign on the clubhouse noted they will be temps "until further notice." I did not see any damage on either green or any signs of maintenance being done, so I am not sure why they are closed or when they will reopen. Just something to ask about if you happen to play here this winter.
