I had the opportunity to play Dove Canyon this morning with an SCGA member outing. $80 and worth every penny as it also included a nice BBQ spread for lunch at the turn or after your round. The minimal staff was kind of lax about getting people out to the first tee, but my group teed off a little after 8:00 and finished in just over 4 hours, so no complaints there.

The course was in very good overall condition. Blue tee boxes excellent with just a few that were maybe a little crowned in the middle. The fairways are bermuda, so a little dappled in color this time of year, but the lies were always excellent and good roll-out on drives. The rough is deep, thick and nasty. Some parts were freshly mown and others were not yet, but all of it was pretty penal. In some cases all you could do was just hack it back out to the fairway and take your medicine. The greens were exceptional. Receptive on approaches, rolling smooth and fast. Just perfect. Some bunkers were better than others, but mostly good overall.

I was really impressed with the course. It's a really tough Nicklaus layout and such a beautiful secluded community up in the hills. Picture perfect weather today made for some exceptional views and background scenery. It's a very dramatic design playing through the canyon with plenty of elevation changes, forced carries and natural undulation. Challenging, scenic and fun with great clubhouse and amenities... I'm not the private club kind of guy (nor am I in the income bracket for this place), but I sure could get used to playing here : )
