Played The Nicklaus as the 3rd leg of the SCGA Bob Hole Trail outing. This course is excellent. I really cannot say anything bad about this course. Fairways are perfect, the rough is very playable and the greens rolled great. There were hard but held good shots. Sand traps are a bit hard but playable.

Very challenging though. Some of the greens are narrow and you need to pretty accurate because missing a green will likely mean a difficult chip to an uphill green or from a deep bunker. Water does come into play on some of the holes particularly on #8 which is a par 3 surrounded by water. Many of the holes have moguls that are steep, line the fairways and come into play.

I thoroughly enjoyed playing here. The heat on this day was tough but it didn’t take away from the enjoyment. A must play!!

Was my first time here at this facility - very nice! The staff was the best of any course I've ever played. Top notch from driving range to the final hole. The tee boxes were great and the fairways were also. The rough I found myself in was very playable. The greens were great but were not at quick as expected. Some of the greens had subtle breaks that were hard to see. The fairways have many bunkers with a few split for your enjoyment. The bunkers I was in were hard, wet, soft and dry - somewhat inconsistent and frustrating! The overall round was completed in about 3 1/2 hours - that was great! The fees were very reasonable for the quality of the course. Definitely a course you play at least once.

First time playing here and enjoyed it. There is width off the tee, but the challenge goes up the closer you get to the green. I had always heard how difficult the course is from others in the past, but was more playable than I expected. It definitely looks like a course from Nicklaus's 1980's design portfolio, with the chocolate drop containment mounds, but it still works in the 21st centruy. A couple of the holes were somewhat forgettable, but overall, it's a must play while in the area.

Played here on Easter Sunday @ 11:42am and the course was fantastic. My dad and I played 3 courses over the holiday weekend and I liked the Nicklaus course the best. Other courses played were Indian Wells Players & Westin Mission hills - Gary Player. To be fair, Westin Mission hills doesnt come close to the caliber of Indian Wells & PGA West Nicklaus but we still REALLY enjoyed all 3 courses (see my reviews for other 2 courses to follow). The Golfnow special for this course was pretty unbeatable so we jumped on playing here Sunday early afternoon.

Conditions were excellent from tee to green. The "framing" of the fairways & sand traps caused from the non overseeded summer grass is starting to disappear a bit. So I think off the tee, say compared to middle of January, the course isn't as visually stunning as it is earlier in peak season but aside from that picky observation, the course was in near perfect condition. Fairways were pure, the rough was to my surprise quite penalizing and the greens were firm and smooth. Not as fast as I expected but medium/fast pace. The bunkers I hit out of were all in excellent condition.

Let me go ahead and just put this out there, I think this is one of the more difficult courses I've ever played. Its a second shot golf course for sure. Getting up and down is no easy task here as the contouring and plateauing of the green complexes are quite complex. There are many collection areas and deep greenside bunkers. I'm about a 2-3 handicap and really struggled to score low (75.3/143). I plan to be back in a week or 2!

Every aspect of the course is in great shape,nothing negative to say about the course and service. I will admit it is my favorite course out in the desert. Fairways are semi generous, but approach shots must be accurate. Greens were rolling semi fast. POP was right at 4 hours. I saw the marshal several different times making sure everyone was on pace

1st time playing here, played the Blues (6522/72.2/134) in 4.5 hours on a very busy Sat. afternoon on a prepaid Golf Now Hot Deal for $69 w cart. Enjoyed getting my father-in-law out for a rare round. From the complementary valet parking to the complementary balls on the all grass driving range, the facilities and the customer service are exceptional. The only negative was that I was shocked that a course of this caliber did not have GPS on their carts, and not a whole lot of sprinklers are marked. It definitely slowed down play, the 4some in front of us was constantly using scopes or walking around looking for sprinklers. I loved the layout. It's not overly tight but there is plenty of trouble awaiting any crooked shots. Some holes that particularly stood out... #8 is a shorter par 3 with water on three sides of a built up green that looks alot like the famous island hole @ TPC. Definitely made my day that I stuck a 9I 4' below the hole and made the putt! Both #9 & #18 are great finishing holes. Long par 4's with your approach shots over water that share a huge double green. #12 is a longer par 3 with a build up green over water that really comes into play. All four par 5's are potentially reachable for longer hitters with two well placed shots. Several holes feature split fairways with a long waste bunker down the middle of the tee shot landing area. The longer path fairway is more generous in the landing area size, the shorter path landing area is roughly 1/2 the width but could cut maybe 25 yards off the hole. This feature literally provided a risk/reward option on several holes. Most green complexes are build up higher than the surrounding land, but a couple were also sunken to provide a different type challenge. The greens were overseeded, firm and putted medium fast with few ball marks. Around most greens, you could expect a chip shot severely up hill that was blind to the pin if you barely missed the putting surface with your approach shot. Many of the fairways are also build up higher than the surrounding terrain. The fairways are overseeded and very lush. The fairways are surrounded by dormant bermuda rough that usually produced lies where the ball would settle down. I started using a yellow ball because the white ball was hard to spot in the dormant rough once it settled down even when you were within 20 yards of your ball. Many fairways are also then framed with emerald green rye grass bunkers that are usually 10' to 15' below the surface of the fairway, producing blind shots if you miss most fairways. It produced a very beautiful visual effect going from green to brown back to green every hole around the fairways. There are a generous amount of sand traps, including some that are about the size of a normal Southern California home lot. They were extremely well maintained, 10/10 in my book. Most traps also had dormant bermuda rough around them ringed with overseeded emerald green rye that looked great. The tees were overseeded and extremely lush, well maintained with few fresh divots. No water the first 1/3 of the course, then water on most holes thereafter. Overall, this is one of my all-time favorite course layouts that was immaculately conditioned. Highly recommend.

Course is in excellent shape and should only get better in the next few weeks. I played about 10 days after reopening from overseeding and everything was very lush. The greens were surprisingly smooth considering how recently the course had re-opened, although they were quite slow. Fairways were lush and maybe just a tad bit shaggy. The bermuda rough was extremely penal and difficult to locate balls that entered it. Tee boxes were like the fairways, very lush but maybe just a little longer than ideal, again due to recent overseeding. I'm sure they'll be cut tight within a couple weeks. Bunkers were great.

It had probably been more than 20 years since I played here, and I enjoyed the layout immensely. It's a really beautiful course that also presents a really good test with a mix of fun holes. Hopefully it won't be another 20 years before I return. (If teeoff.com continues offering great "deal" times here, I can guarantee it won't be long before I return. Itslikeimsayin and I headed out here today because of a TeeOff.com deal we booked, which with a promo code discount, ended up being only $35 a player at 11:06. The course is pretty fresh out of its overseed, so we knew it was cart path only. We were paired with two other singles. The cart path only really slows down the pace here as the paths are all off to the sides and there are so many mounds and moguls around this course. In today's heat and as bad as we were playing, it was definitely a workout and the total pace was around 5 hours. The course is looking great post-overseed and playing nicely. The tee boxes and fairways are lush and beautiful. The rough is pretty tough as the thick, dry-ish bermuda just swallows up your ball. Bunkers good. Greens better than expected this fresh out of the maintenance. Surfaces a bit firm, but rolling pretty smooth and looking good. Definitely slow on putts, so I never quite adjusted to the speed and left most putts short. This was my second time playing the course. I loved it the first time and enjoyed it just as much this time. Plenty challenging and very beautiful. For the price we paid, that deal is hard to beat on a course of this caliber. Should continue to be in excellent shape throughout the peak winter season.
