The course was in a great shape . I never got in a bunker so i can't speak to the sand in them . the greenside bunker on #6 has to need more sand cuz one of my playing partners needed about 5 hacks to get his ball out. :-)

I loved the layout of this place , no real goofy or gimmicky holes, but definitely some that require your full attention.

Excellent value for the price we paid, I will definitely play it more often.

First group off as a twosome and finished in under four hours. Beautifully maintained course east of the strip with views of the strip from a few holes. The rates are very reasonable when compared to what other sub par courses in the area ask. The staff was great and very helpful for us first timers here. The tee boxes were all very level and well groomed with great coverage. The fairways were excellent with the over seeding they did - only one hole had a few thin spots here and there. The rough was fairly short and not as green or thick as the fairways. The fairway traps looked nice but were very much in need of sand. The green side bunkers were also well groomed but most had very thin areas in need of sand! The large greens were in excellent shape but rolled somewhat slower than what we were used too. They were fairly receptive to well struck shots but were COVERED with ball marks on most holes. The entire facility is a bargain for the area during the winter season. Definitely Recommended!!

Played here this morning. They have a pretty regular early morning hot deal on GN, which is rare in Vegas. Easily the best deal I could find anywhere for a Friday morning this time of year, and it's a course I hadn't played yet. 7:54 time for $42. Not too busy out there. A couple of threesomes went out around 7:30 and I was paired with two other singles. We went off at our time and the huge gap in front of us was nice. Never had to wait and were finished in just over 3 hours. Rob1563's description of the conditions are pretty spot-on. The post-overseed-cart-path-only has been lifted, so you can now roam freely throughout fairways and rough. The tee boxes were good. The fairways had great coverage and provided fluffy lies to hit from. Still a bit too shaggy and not much roll-out on drives, though. Rough just starting to go dormant. A little clumpy in places on a damp morning, with lots of grass clippings around, but it was cut down and not too much of a factor. I was in two bunkers and they had nice sand. Not too soft, a little crusty on top with a decent layer of sand underneath. Just the way I like it. The greens were soft and rather slow, with somewhat bumpy surfaces as the overseed grass continues to fill out. Overall a decent course. Nothing too distinctive or memorable about the layout. Compared to what I've played, it reminded me of the now-defunct Silverstone or Palm Valley. Solid mid-level course that is pretty forgiving off the tee, has relatively flat terrain, a few nice water hazards and medium/big greens that aren't too tricked out. We just played the whites, but I'm sure it adds some challenge from the black or silver tees. Fine for what I paid, but there are many other Vegas courses I'd pick over Stallion Mountain if the prices are similar.

Played on Friday, 10/21, with John_T. He found a 9:30 tee time for $39 each on their website. Great price! 1st time here in over 4 years. I do not know why, but after today, will definitely be back sooner than later. I had a vague recollection of the last trip here: very windy, bad bunkers, and I only remembered 2 holes. Course wraps through a gated community where you check in with the guard shack. Staff was friendly and thanked us for playing. Staffed bag drop, easy check in, cart guys waiting at the end. Drink cart was around 2-3 times and a few water buckets out on the course. Nice carts with great GPS, showed lay out, distance to trouble, and yardages to front/middle/back. Pace was exactly 4 1/2 hours, started as a 2some, then joined by a local couple at 10. Playing as a foursome really cut down on the waiting. Carts were allowed only in the rough, but should be opened in a few days. Course has been out of re-seeding for 2 weeks, and was in EXCELLENT shape. Tee boxes were level and almost completely free of divot damage. Fairways were lush, a bit long still, but carpet-like. Rough was cut down and starting to go dormant. Green side bunkers had fluffy, thick sand. Greens were in great shape. Front 9 were medium/slow, but the back 9 appeared to have been cut shorter and were a bit faster. Overall, loved it! It does run through a community, but most houses are set back, plus there are some trees lining the fairways. Nice mix of tight and wide fairways. The course is LONG. We played the whites, and found it was all of the nearly 6400 yards on the scorecard. Only 2 Par 4s under 350, but I found I had a shot at 3 of the par 5s in 2 with good shots. Thought it was a little more difficult than the 70.0/122 ratings.

Stallion Mountain was the second stop on my 3 day weekend. The course was gorgeous. The fairways were like a perfect green carpet and the greens were smooth and pretty fast. The staff was very nice, picking me up in the parking lot, showing me around and escorting me to the first tee. I was playing single so I figured I'd finish quickly and move on to my next course...well, all was fine until I caught up to a foursome on the 6th hole and the waiting began. I was stuck behind them for a few holes when they finally offered to let me play through. I then got stuck again. I played through one more hole then decided to skip a hole, just to find out that there were backups on every remaining one, so i left after 12 holes. I was quite disappointed not to be able to play the entire course but it would easily have been a 5-1/2 hour round. I'd be willing to play there again but not as a single.

Played here in a shotgun tourney at 9am on Tuesday, 2/10/15, on a sunny breezy day. Wind wasn’t too bad but needed to be considered downwind or upwind. Course is a “country club” and is in a gated community with members, but allows some outside play. There used to be 54 holes here some 20 years ago (and this was even part of the Las Vegas Invitational [Chip Beck shot 59 here]), but developers tore out all but 18 and built houses. Course is pretty rough around the edges and is similar in my mind to San Juan Hills (without the kikuyu!!).

Greens are fairly small, many are elevated, and they are thin, tight and firm. Full shots are held OK. They rolled well at medium-fast speeds. No crazy tiering and not much internal movement. We didn’t see many ballmarks on the greens. However, many greens had bare spots and holes (see below), or strips of turf removed from the edges.

Fairways are also thin and firm, and not very wide. Rough is dormant and cut pretty low, and can be clumpy around the greens. Tees are level but par 3s are really torn up. There are lots of sand traps on the course, most are firm with only a thin playable layer. And the course needs more rakes for the traps!! You really had to go looking for them.

Carts are OK without anything fancy – the club/ball washer is a nice touch. There’s a GPS unit of the type I find difficult to use and not interactive (“Digital Caddies”). Graphics are very hard to read. You get yardages F, M, and B, but NOT to the flag. And plenty of advertising, including videos!

There are lots of small lakes on the course and coots are a big problem. Lots of wet and dry poop around, and they have dug holes in many greens looking for whatever coots dig for. Many greens have multiple large holes scattered around.

Nothing here to go out of your way for.

Played this course two weeks ago and course seems to be in good shape considering the high temps. The only downside to this course are the greens. There are some extremely bad patches of grass/lack of grass on the greens. If that ever gets repaired this course can become top notch.

Played Friday @ 11:42. We were greeted promptly at bag drop as well as at check in. Very friendly staff. We proceeded to driving range where it was hard pan and dead range balls. The starter came and got us 10 minutes before our tee time. He told us that the course was running 2:05-2:20 per 9. Great! The course was dried out, some of the greens were shaggy some were like concrete. There was little or no sand in the bunkers, poor playing conditions overall. It was painfully slow, we saw a Marshall once and he said he was doing his best to keep the pace of play on time. When we arrived at the 12 th tee, a par 5, there were already 3 groups on the hole. It was 3 o'clock. Since this tee is close to the clubhouse, we decided to call it quits. We expressed our dismay to the cart boy, he subsequently ran into the shop to deliver the info to the staff. 2 minutes later he was out saying that our time was fine, no apologies. I later did the math, that is minimum 5.5 hours for 18. Not acceptable! Ob sports courses in Arizona are very good, needless to say this isn't. There many other course at this price point in Vegas that are significantly better.

Played Sunday, 3/25, in gusty winds 30 mph plus sustained. 1st time playing here. They recently reopened after being closed for almost a year. In the past, this club had hosted the Las Vegas PGA Tour stop (Chip Beck shot his 59 here) and once had 3 courses. They consolidated the courses to 18 holes, and sold the remaining land for the housing developments around it. Houses can come into play on about 6 holes or so, mostly on the front 9. Winds kept the round in the 4 1/2 hour range.

Staff is friendly and helpful. On check in, found they are still working on improving the course experience, such as yardage books, etc. Range use comes with the greens fee. They have a 8 station grass driving range, large putting green, and huge chipping area. Starter came to the range area to get the groups teeing off. There are minimum signs to let you know what hole your on, which may cause a problem later in the round (after a few adult beverages).

Course was beautiful. Drives had to be exact, as most fairways narrowed or had bunkers waiting. Only #7 did not have a fairway bunker. There are a couple of multi tiered fairways. Tee boxes were in level and in terrific shape. Every tee area had distance to center on the tee box. Fairways were lush, firm, and fast. Rough was dormant, which caused shots to run through into red sand/rock waste areas past the rough. Greens were in excellent shape, with bare spots only on 1 or 2 holes. Greens were firm, but I could not judge the speed. Starter did say they were faster then the practice green, but actually seemed a bit slower.

The only problem I had with the course was the sand. I was in 5 bunkers, 2 fairway, 3 greenside. The fairway bunkers were fluffy while the greenside ones were hard and packed. No explosions out of the sand. After the 1st one, I just chipped or pitched out like it was hardpan.

Overall, I found it a very challenging course, especially if the wind is howling. Course seemed to be shaped to the prevailing wind, so wind going left to right, hazards were on the right. I think with little wind, the course would be fun. I can't wait to play again in better weather and the bermuda rough growing. For $35 twilight (with OB Sports card), I'll definitely be back.
