One thing off the bat, the picture they commonly use to market themselves (with the big mesa behind the green) is a little deceptive. It's shot with a telephoto from the tee box, so the mesa looms in the photo about four times larger than it would actually appear in real life. It's about a mile and a half off in the distance. That quibble aside, it is in fact a gorgeous, scenic area. Sedona Resort is probably the premiere public course in an amazingly scenic corner of the country. I played there about four years ago when we chose Sedona as the spot for a family celebration around Thanksgiving. Many of the details are fuzzy to me now but I remember the following: tee time around 9-ish, we didn't get to warm up due to a frost delay and the range being closed; service was good; course conditions (after the frost) were very good; I had one of the worst scoring rounds of my adult life; and the course was beautiful, interesting and challenging (even if you aren't playing like poo). I'm anxiously looking forward to the day when I can go back and give it another go. If you are a golfer passing through the Sedona area, it has to be on your list to try. As resort courses go, I also felt the green fee was a bargain -- generally in the $110 range with twilight around $70.
