I had been wanting to play this course for a long time, and waited until this summer to go for it, and in the end was not impressed. Thank God I only paid $15 on Golfnow.com. I have no idea how they get away with charging $80 to $140 during peak season. First off the course was in OK shape on some holes, the grass was dead on 10% of the course. The very first hole had dead spots all over the place, and this is the hole, new very expensive condos look out to, you would think they would take care of this hole. It's no fun playing on a course that has over half the holes with ropes on the cart path, you can't even drive onto a Par 5 fairway, really takes the fun out of the game. The course is short and has all these blind spots, so even if you hit a great drive, right down the middle you can't see where your ball went. The first nine is very boring, the second nine is in the desert and has some really nice holes and views. The service was very good, and the staff was friedly. Staff didn't seem to like me bringing out a cooler, but I didn't care when it's 115 out I should be able to bring whatever I want. Most likely will not return, would never pay more than $15 for this course, much better courses in the valley.

Easily the most annoying golf experience ever for me. Course was being watered so I had to avoid getting hosed down by the automatic sprinklers. All the greens were soaked and impossible to putt on.

The cart shows all the awards this course "earned", but I cannot understand why. It's confusing to drive on (try to find the #5 hole without getting lost, I dare you), the layout is such that there are two holes where more than one green is your possible target, the GPS in my cart rarely worked (except to show ads), the greens were not much larger than a kiddie pool and most landing areas were bare. Traps were awful, and this course just seems to fall in love with blind tee shots, blind second shots, whatever.

The only positives were the people in the shop and the guys who take of the carts, they were phenomenal. The cart girl was a cutie, but I didn't see her until the 10th hole. Oy!

Almost every fairway was torn up! Lots of ground under repair, or chunky sod was laid poorly. We had a tournament setting up, and 3 times on the first 6 tees, soone drove up while we were teeing off... Continue »

Almost every fairway was torn up! Lots of ground under repair, or chunky sod was laid poorly. We had a tournament setting up, and 3 times on the first 6 tees, soone drove up while we were teeing off. One of the group I was with hit a boulder so big that it left a dent in the sand trap. They also revamped the course, making it even shorter and only a par 69.

The club house and putting green are gone. The driving range uses restricted flight balls which allow you to warm up but I dont like them.

First off, they've changed the name. Phantom Horse is now Arizona Grand. This course is interesting. The front 9 is very links-like golf. Lots of grass, large landing areas, and water. The back 9 is more traditional desert golf with narrow landing areas and lots of elevation changes. I enjoyed the course. Was playing in a "best ball" corporate event, and with cart-path only it made for a very long round, but the company made it very enjoyable. I'd play this course again when in the Phoenix area.
