Rode the Greens (6537/71.4/139). Mid 80's, clear and breezy. POP was brutal, 4H, 45M twilight. Playing behind a slow group of bad golfers who were just oblivious. Was within 50 yards of them on numerous holes and they did not act like letting any groups play through was an option. Ventana is very spread out, easy to get lost. Depending on your tee choice, many tee shots with forced carries hitting over no man's land. Long climbs in carts, play down hill, then repeat the process is a common theme. Few holes are severely uphill and being very firm, the course plays shorter than the listed yardage. Tees level/lush with most divots repaired. Fairways lush and nice to play from. Bermuda rough mostly green and becoming more lush/thick/deep by the day. Sand traps very good. Around the greens plenty of soft white sand. Fairway bunkers more firm. Large Bermuda greens smooth, very firm and medium fast. Everything releases here. Customer service excellent on all levels. Bottled water provided. Drink cart around once. Very nice restaurant on site. Nice, all grass practice area which includes range balls. Driving range is close to a mile from the Pro Shop and the basic carts do not have GPS. Recommended.

Rode the Greens (6537/71.4/139) in 3.5H mid day. Mid 90's, clear and windy. Mountain is the original Ventana course and this layout is IMO the better of the two Ventana courses. First Fazio design west of the Mississippi. Depending on your tee choice, many tee shots hitting over no man's land. The Green tees feature several 150-200 yard forced carries as an example. Long climbs in carts, play down hill, then repeat the process is a common theme. Few holes are severely uphill and IMO, the course plays shorter than the listed yardage. Tees excellent with most divots repaired, level/lush. Fairways lush and nice to play from. Bermuda rough mostly green and becoming more lush/thick by the day. Sand traps excellent. Rode the Greens (6537/71.4/139) in 4H twilight with a nice H/W for 9, then a single for 9. Beautiful weather, high 80's, clear and fairly calm. Tees almost immaculate. Level/lush with most divots repaired. Fairways the same. Lush and nice to play from. Bermuda rough out of dormancy and decent to play from. Sand traps nicely maintained with good quality sand. Large Bermuda greens rolled nice. Medium fast and very firm, you have to play for roll out. Challenging and fun Fazio design in excellent playing condition. Expect Desert scape on both sides of most holes with many forced carries. If you venture more than about 10 yards off many fairways you are in penalty stroke land on this layout. Customer service excellent from all encountered. Bottled water provided. No drink cart today. Nice, all grass practice area which includes range balls. Basic carts do not have GPS. Rode the Greens (6537/71.4/139) in 3.5H twilight with a nice H/W on vacation from Chicago. Beautiful weather, mid 70's, clear and calm. Tees level/lush with most divots properly repaired. Fairways lush, cut tight and nice to play from. Bermuda rough greening up and becoming more lush by the week. Sand traps nicely maintained with good quality sand. Large Bermuda greens had been recently top dressed with a thin coat of sand. They actually rolled even better than usual and were downright quick. Customer service excellent from all encountered. Bottled water provided. Usually no drink cart on weekday afternoons. Nice, all grass practice area which includes range balls. Driving range is close to a mile from the Pro Shop and the basic carts do not have GPS. Very nice Fazio design in excellent playing condition. Desertscape on both sides of most holes with many forced carries. If you venture more than about 10 yards off most fairways with pace you are one bad bounce away from penalty strokes on this course. Definitely recommended.

Bermuda rough coming out of dormancy. Getting thicker and deeper. Sand traps very nicely maintained. Consistently some of the better traps I have ever played. Many of the lips are just high enough that well hit shots are required to escape. You hit a few of the fairway traps and a GIR is not happening because the lip is too severe to hit longer clubs over. Large Bermuda greens also coming out of dormancy. Smooth, firm and medium speed. Customer service excellent all around. Drink cart around once. Bottled water provided. All grass practice area includes unlimited practice balls and is excellent. Chipping green, sand practice green and 3 putting greens total between the two courses. Driving range is close to a mile from the Pro Shop and the basic carts do not have GPS. Excellent Fazio design in very good playing condition. Highly recommended.

Rode the Greens (6537/71.4/139) twice in the last week. Averaged 3.5H rounds mid day. 60's and windy makes it feel cold. From the Green tees, many holes have elevated tee shots hitting over no man's land. Most holes are ringed on both sides by desert penalty areas. Very challenging layout with potential penalties in play if you stray even a little on many shots. Overseeded tees very good. Level/lush with only a few divots unrepaired. Overseeded fairways lush and very nice to play from. Bermuda rough not overseeded, provides a great contrast with the lush green fairways, tees and greens. Penal because it's long enough for the ball to sit down. Around the faces of elevated greens on upslopes the rough is often brutal. You HOPE your ball finds a trap. Sand traps immaculate. Around the greens plenty of fine white sand. Fairway bunkers firmer. Large Bermuda greens smooth, firm and medium fast to fast. You have to play for run out on irons and chips because of both the speed and firmness of these greens. Customer service excellent on all levels. Nice, all grass practice area which includes range balls. No GPS on the otherwise nice carts. Bottled water provided. Saw the drink cart several times and you can order food at the turn. Excellent restaurant on site. Definitely recommended.

Overseeded fairways lush and nice to play from. Bermuda rough mostly dormant and maintained at a level that the ball often sat up. Not overseeded, provides a great contrast with the lush green fairways, tees and greens. Sand traps excellent. Around the greens plenty of fine white sand. Fairway bunkers firm. Bermuda greens smooth, firm and medium fast to fast. Few true tiers, but with the amount of break, firmness and speed these greens are quite challenging. Better be on the correct side of the hole.
