When I first played this course, back in about 1995 I swore that I would never play it again because it had a tendency to penalize good shots. I got to know the (then) teaching pro, Terry Hales, and played it often enough that it became my favorite course in Tucson. Since I played it last, they have added an additional 9 holes and redesigned many of the existing holes. I played the "Rattler" and "Roadrunner" 9's this Saturday. I like the course. I love what they've done with some of the remodeling. There are a lot of "blind" shots, and unfortunately, for someone playing the course for the first time, they are truly blind. The scorecard does not include a hole diagram, nor is there one on the tee boxes. When you're playing in traffic you don't have the opportunity to drive ahead, scope out the blind areas, and then go back and hit your ball. It was hit the ball and hope for the best. I would highly recommend some sort of course layout sheet so people playing for the first time would have some idea of the danger ahead. The other complaint I had about the course was the fact that on Saturday it was about 110 degrees, and all of the water coolers on the second 9 (Roadrunner) were all empty when we played in the middle of the afternoon. This was quite distressing. I love the course, it's what I would call a typical Palmer-design. There were some very difficult holes where bogey is good . . and some pretty easy holes where birdie is very possible. With some hint from the scorecard as to what danger is ahead, and water on the holes it would have been a great afternoon.
