Tiger Woods is Betting Favorite at 2012 The Masters

Las Vegas, Nevada (March 27, 2012)--Tiger Woods' victory last week at the Arnold Palmer Invitational will help records be broken for betting handle on the Masters. According to PGA Tour betting odds expert Jeff Sherman, the overall take from 2012 was already going to be huge but now that Tiger is "back" it will only add to the fervor. In other Las Vegas PGA Tour betting news, in the PGA Tour tune-up to the Masters, Lee Westwood opened 12/1 to win the Shell Houston Open. --By Brian Hurlburt, follow @LVGolfInsider

"Tiger's win will further drive the record handle for the 2012 Masters," says Sherman, who is the founder of Las Vegas' GolfOdds.com and also the assistant director fo the Superbook at the LVH. "There will be plenty of Tiger support and his lower odds has raised the odds of others who will see interest due to the solid form of many top golfers."

The upcoming Shell Houston Open has a pretty good field and is headed by Westwood (he is 18/1 to win The Masters by the way) in addition to Mickelson (12/1 to win the Shell), Keegan Bradley (20/1), and Steve Stricker (15/1), among others.

Rory McIlroy is 5/1 to win The Masters--he was the slim favorite prior to Tiger's victory--while Phil Mickelson is 10/1. Luke Donald is 15/1. The field is 12/1.

In looking at the official PGATour.com Power Rankings, Bradley is listed at the top of the top 10 followed by Westwood, Stricker, Graeme McDowell, and Mickelson. McDowell is 25/1 to win the Shell and 50/1 to win the Masters (not a bad value).

PGATour.com Writer Rob Bolton writes the following about Bradley at the top of his rankings: "Top 25s in all eight of his starts this year, including a T8 in his last at the WGC-Cadillac. Ranks T31 on TOUR in total driving, 20th in greens hit, 22nd in Strokes Gained-Putting, fifth in the all-around and 10th in scrambling." Click now to read the official PGATour.com Power Rankings.
