Being Active in an Online Golf Community Like Greenskeeper: Why Our Community is so Vibrant

I was surfing the web back in December 2006 when I stumbled onto GK. At first I used it mainly to get course information, and aeration schedules. Then I decided to start posting on the forums, and became hooked.

My overall experience has been a positive one. What I like about the GK forums is that golfers of all skill levels give their honest opinions about all areas of golf and on course conditions.

The only negatives that I have come across is the ego bashing that sometimes takes place between 2 or 3 individuals who hijack a thread and argue over who is more correct on a certain subject. None of us were born an expert in this game, if you work at it long enough you get to be single digit index players, and some of us lose our edge with age or not enough play time.

I am a believer in supporting public and municipal courses; they are the backbone of this game. Not all of us can afford to play high-end courses, or belong to country clubs.

I have also participated in GK events and have enjoyed meeting some of the people that post on the forums, and had some fun playing golf. As most of us have witnessed, GK has become more popular, that is largely because of all the hard work of JohnnyGK, the website's founder, and the assistance of his GK Staffers.

I will continue to participate in giving my opinions and to post on the forums, that’s what makes for an effective environment.
